Yeah, I understand balancing...but that's weak as hell.

I whooped so much ass in Halo 2 the other day. Then, I go back to Halo 3 and I win some and I lose some. Did Bungie ever consider that a perfect balance might be a bad thing?
They sacrificed the hardcore for the more casual appeal. (aka AR)

Yeah, when I got back to Halo 3, I felt like my Spartan's arms were covered in molasses.

It is quite annoying not being able to just whip out melee weapons when people get in close among other homogenizing player alterations, but I appreciate that as a result the game puts more focus on the team than on the player.

Does anyone have any tips (for MLG moreso) regarding H3? I'm not really a novice, but I haven't really given the game all that much play. I have played it on and off since I've had it but have rarely put in a string of days together with it where it was the dominant game I was playing. I'm a big fps fan, and the lack of having an fps I enjoy has been killing me so I'm investing more time in H3 now to at least get the competitive juices flowing again.

I'm not horrible...I have a 1.61 KDR and am a 40+ in most gametypes that matter, but I haven't been able to retain the confidence in H3 that I had in H2. I think its mostly the map design. For whatever reason I just always find my positioning to be awful. It seems like whenever I focus on an area someone somehow catches me in the flank and it's to late, or I get 3 shots into a guy and then he has help coming out of nowhere. to some of the guys who find going positive to be pretty much routine do you find yourself being more cautious or do you like to be extremely aggressive?

If you want me to play with you and give you some tips PM me.

More balance means more players can be good at it. That equals more profit. We may be extremely dedicated players, but we represent but 1% of the total community. Unfortunely that other 99% is more appealing to Bungie and MS (for obvious reasons).

Halo 2 was perfect

I hated BXR, BXB, and other button combos. They ruined Halo 2. Really glad Bungie did away with all of them in Halo 3. It plays much, much better because of it, and the gameplay is so far ahead of Halo 2's too.

Well, our designers ran some numbers and it turned out that for every BXR combo used, Bungie lost fifteen cents of profitability. By contrast, AR starts prompted players to be much more receptive to purchasing DLC from Xbox LIVE Marketplace. There's also some really interesting radar in Team Snipers data we've been researching, but I don't want to comment on those extrapolations until the information has solidified.

I thought we were bizarre? Are we both?

Holy crap. I haven't seen it that high since the Legendary maps hit.
Holy resurge Batman, that's great news.
Cheers to everyone at Bungie! Now that I'm done with XKCD and Skycon I might actually get to play some this week. Hopefully :-/

Does anyone else think that the Sandbox Crypt screams "Hang 'em High?"

Yep.

Out of curiosity, does the 'delete' physics hanging glitch still work on Sandbox, and is it (still?) disallowed in matchmaking?

What?

If you're talking about making boxes float by deleting objects beneath it, then yes, it'll still work.

^ Well, it was found in his Recent Screenshots, so I don't think he did it on purpose. He then tried covering up his mistake with a bunch of random screenshots, but I guess that wasn't enough to save him.

Once again, I'm off to go record some more clips for peeps, so if anyone has any clips they want to send me at the last minute for today, send them nao.

Just curious: For those HaloGAFers who have recon, what is your matchmaking experience like? Seeing the extent of some people's obsession for recon (going to such lengths as sending 100's of PMs or hacking accounts), are matches filled with "can i haz recon? do you work for bungle?" or are people ignorant or apathetic about the whole deal?

It's probably about 50/50 as far as people recognizing it and asking questions. And out of the 50% that know what it is, probably half of them will think you work for Bungie: "hey, we've got a Bungie member in here!"

The messages ("plz look at this screenshot," "1v1 for recon,") are pretty much nonstop, so it's hard to tell if they're coming from people you've just played against or people who have just looked up your name on B.net or something.

The messages eventually cease to be annoying, and you're a lot more likely to get corpse-humped in-game, but other than that, it's not frustrating or anything. Otherwise, I wouldn't wear it.

I sometimes find it can be advantageous for my team, if guys on the other team are going bananas for it. They'll chase me around, ignore the objective (if there is one) and corpse hump like mad. I've led many a merry band on a chase away from their flag. So it often works great as a distraction.

As long as no one on my team is doing chasing/betraying/humping, that is. Which does happen.

I was just going to post this. I see the same thing with the guys I play with.

Another thing is going back in the game stats on Bungie.net and seeing a ton of pictures linked to the game with titles such as "I humped recon!".

What happened with AlkalineProdigy? I wandered into this thread and the situation intrigued me. Now I can't leave until I find out what happened.
He accidentally took a picture of a part of Sandbox that hasn't been revealed yet. I found it in his recent screens and posted it in the thread. Luke saw it.

Apparently the only codes out now are just supposed to go to the press and his friend who works for some site gave him a code so that he could look for skulls. He wasn't supposed to have the maps and the fact that a screen he took of embargoed content was leaked bit him in the ass. His recon is no more.

Yeah I got humped like mad once by this guy, and looked later and his file share has all six slots filled with pics and clips, "me humping recon" etc. :lol

My two cents: I've stopped wearing Recon. Not that I don't think it's a cool set of armor and not because I don't appreciate it. I just found it to be a bit of a hassle for all of the reasons people have mentioned.

Nowadays, I'm sporting the ODST helmet variant -- the new Recon. I'd wear Flight armor, but anytime I switch to an Elite I feel like I'm the size of two Mongooses, one on top of the other, with a turtle head sticking of the front air dam. Plus, I still think there's some unspoken element of xenophobia in matchmaking. I don't know about anyone else, but I always shoot the cows first and the humans second. I just don't trust the way they look at me. Almost like they're actually thinking or something. Scary shit.

How many games did you have to play. I assumed you were in a similar situation Omlet and I have been in, once you've play a couple hunder TS games MM has decided where your level is and it's nearly impossible to raise it. This is your GT right?

Congrats.

Nah that's my pleasure/main account. I made another one month and for the hell of it played some TS instead of donging on kids in big team.

http://www.bungie.net/stats/halo3/default.aspx?player=Neighbors dad

I'll probably keep it to boost friends or whatever. I don't remember the last time I played TS on my main but I remember it taking a while to rank up each level. It wasn't any different here. I think we went 20-5 yesterday and I went up one rank or maybe two. Go in with another person and carry. It'll take a while but if you're good you'll rank up.

Oh, that makes more sense, you went from 48 to 50 in just 14 games. Try doing that on you main, it's a entirely different story.

I'm not too concerned with ranking up, I've been a brig for over a year now and I'm afraid it wouldn't feel like Halo 3 unless I had the birdy by my name.

I dunno I vaguely remember winning like 6... or maybe 7 games in a row on my main and ranking up. That might have been an anomaly though. I may try TS tomorrow and see how long it takes to rank up on my main.

I'm finally a Brig in Social Slayer :) All those games....damn.

But now I need it to match my global rank. I'm a 44 in Lone Wolves (technically a 47) but I'm NEVER playing that again. Too frustrating. IIRC, I'm a 42 in TS and hopefully all that Social was good practice.

Also something I realized: Team Snipers is a good warm up for BR gametypes. Even though my sniping is abysmal (and it absolutely destroyed my K/D), the usage helps tune your BR muscle memory. Works for me, at least.
