Oh Halo! 4 of many messages I received in only playing about 6 matches tonight. I also had someone tell me that I sucked and he hated me.

Really!? Sweet. There are so many buttons in Theater mode. So many buttons.

Shiska, did you guys playtest Snipers on Standoff? Because the way that you have it now with the spawns makes it THE WORST gametype/map in the entire game.
The random cage boxes placed around the map is... haha.

Edit: How did I forget this? Probably the most important part of MLG is teamwork. You have to learn to shoot as a team and make callouts as a team in order to win. There is no I in Halo.

Speaking of callouts, where the fuck is "training" in The Pit?

Player: "OUR TRAINING!"
Me (unplugged mic): ......

Training is by the bridge to the sword, where the picture of the brute pops out.

Some crazy fun games of BTB tonight, that neutral bomb on Rat's Nest was epic.

Also, boo @ the impersonators.

Never tried Bumper Jumper but Boxer is great. So much better than default layout.

Bumper Jumper is just plain awesome. Being able to jump(LB) and melee(RB) without having to move your hand off either analog stick is a godsend. Once you try it, you'll never go back and will wonder why other FPS for the 360 doesn't have this setting. It's seriously the best button layout ever. You should definitely try it out.

Edit: Btw, excellent games tonight, fellas.

My friend recently told me that he polled players in the 47-50 range on what control scheme they used and almost every one said Bumper Jumper. I hadn't even heard of it until he told me that, going to try it when I get off work.

I'm completely new to Halo 3, so I went and played Ranked for the first time tonight and ended up using the Bumper Jumper config. Awesome config.

I'm trying bumper jumper as we speak. I like it somewhat but its going to take me a while to reprogram my brain :lol. I'll run through some campaign with it and will probably be solid after that.

I tried to make the transition but I couldn't handle it.

I am just so stuck in my old ways that it feels good to hit A to jump :lol

Nice, don't see enough new people jumping into Halo. Hope you enjoy it.

Campaign is definitely the smoothest way to make the transition. And be ready to unintentionally bail out of vehicles, whiff melees, etc. it's the growing pains all Bumper Jumpees must endure.

What are the downsides to BJ, would you say? I remember being annoyed trying to dual wield, not that I really should care :lol

And yeah, not the best term for abbreviations.

You sacrifice being able to jump and melee better for having to take your thumb off the stick to reload, pick up things, and board vehicles. A no brainer really.

To biggest downside actually is not being able to go back to Halo CE or 2 without having to readjust.

Can't have that, especially with the former, and you can't dual-wield with BJ. The button configuration isn't for me.

The most annoying thing for me would be how hard it'd make juggling flags.
You have to take your thumb off the stick to press Y anyways. It works just as well, you just have to alternate between B (grab) and Y (jump).

Fun was had tonight in unprecedented proportions.

I was becoming bored killing the random BTB kid so I decided to hunt a slightly tougher beast: Mr. Coco P. Jojo

I spotted him in his native vehicle undoubtedly headed to AR someone.

I wasn't going to let that happen. After quickly determining wind speed and triangulating his path I let a rocket go.
66321183-Full.jpg

Dead on.
66321239-Full.jpg

Feeling pretty good I spot a flying target.
66321382-Full.jpg

I hesitated because it wasn't Cocop but I fired anyway!
66321381-Full.jpg

That moment of hesitation caused me to miss the hornet by a few feet.
66321426-Full.jpg

I felt pretty shitty about missing that shot so I decided to see what cocop was up to.
66321490-Full.jpg

Cocop is a pretty simple guy, so predicting his movement is a simple task.
66322383-Full.jpg

About two seconds later...
66322401-Full.jpg

Like clockwork.

Standoff:

Cocop valiently grabs the flag and beats someone down. He's feeling pretty good about himself.
66322771-Full.jpg

He sees me coming and assumes I'm going to save his ass like I usually do.
66323131-Full.jpg

Not this time Cocop
66322870-Full.jpg

I get a front row view of Cocop's bitter tears.

Not true: I alternate right trigger and right bumper, i.e. "shooting" drops the flag.

Um, yep, you can definitely dual-wield with Bumper Jumper. B reloads your right weapon, and A reloads your left weapon. Pretty quick and easy to tap A/B. You'll have to take your right hand off the right analog stick for a second, of course, but honestly, you're a hundred times more likely to jump/melee than reload two weapons at once, so I think it's a very worthwhile "trade".

Eh. I LOVE having RB as reload, it's so comfortable, and so much better than using one of the letter buttons. I remember tried using BJ on Ghost Town and dual-wielding spikers... didn't work out too well.:lol

The point is, you're never going to use reload in a combat situation and are much more likely to need to jump and look around than you are to reload and look around. BJ makes perfect sense, you just have to get used to it.

I don't like using the letter buttons to reload; period. I use GT, so I like melee by clicking the right stick. It also feels awesome to click the right stick to detach a turret.

I played one game of MLG last night with bumper jumper and it was a failure :lol. I lost a match I should have easily won because I was changing so much of my habits due to BJ. I was jumping around like a madman :lol. I think I'll stick with it but fuuuuck its going to take some work.

The good thing though was that my confidence in my BR improved a ton with BJ. Before I was losing battles just barely but being able to get that .20th of a second or something extra from lining my shots up AS I jump instead of very quickly jumping and getting my finger back on the analog stick has boosted my play quite a bit in that department. I've also always been something of a Ghandi hopper despite using default and I find that I'm much more deadly with BJ in that regard.

Grimm Fandango said:
Since so many of you are BJers (wait wat), I'll give it a go and see how I like it.

RIP Boxer. 2004-2009.

I give them out for 100 dollars. Very high performance.

I mean.... I use the Bumper Jumper combo.

*cough*

Holy crap. I haven't seen it that high since the Legendary maps hit.
With the first half of the Mythic Six now in a holding pattern caveat emptor, to me it feels like we're on the threshold of what will be the biggest push of multiplayer content in Halo 3's history -- possibly for the entire trilogy. With Assembly's quality proven and Sandbox's vast potential looming only days or weeks away, I'm guessing that some people have returned to the fray to get their gunnery in proper order.

That plus maybe the thought of getting Recon in the doubles playlist brought out the extra numbers.

Word. And also, word got out that Recons would be given out for the V-Day playlist and people flocked to the Halos.

How remarkable is it that a year and a half after Halo 3 shipped, we're still here chomping at the bit for the new content? All the speculation about Sandbox reminds me of those days. Game has mad legs.

Edit: dammit. That's what happens when I hit reply, then deal with the kids for five minutes. :lol

Haha, I know, it's a bit overwhelming at first. I actually switched to it for a couple days and then said "fuck it" and switched back. A month later I tried it again though and vowed to not changed it for a week, and it just became so natural. You'll learn to love it.

Yes you can... it's pretty easy actually, but I rarely ever duel wield. Bumper Jumper feels a lot better than the Default controls after you get used to it, but that's just my opinion.

Haha

A couple months ago I tried it out again as well, but surprisingly it only took me one game to get used to the controls again.

What I couldn't get used to was how weird the BR looked. It just seemed like the proportions were off on it.

The best feeling in videogames is when you arc a grenade at an enemies feet in Doubles, only to fire a spread of Battle Rifle ammunition as it fragments. Causing instant death.

I noticed Halo 2 is so much faster and it's so much easier to kick ass.

ex: sword is faster to whip out and get kills

Ain't nothing wrong with dual-wielding when the dual-wielding is right. Dual-wield spikers are a lot of fun.

I don't use default, though, I use Green Thumb.

Everything is faster to whip out, hence the BXR combo.
The main reason there is no BXR/BXB in Halo 3 is because you cannot cancel the melee animation and the fact that you cant take out your weapon instantly.

Yeah, I understand balancing...but that's weak as hell.

I whooped so much ass in Halo 2 the other day. Then, I go back to Halo 3 and I win some and I lose some. Did Bungie ever consider that a perfect balance might be a bad thing?
