So blue grid is just a blue grid and sandbox tile is permanent. :(

Only 2 deathballs on the map so no chance of making a deathplane to remake Lockout the way it was supposed to be.

Thanks for the clarification on the double budget and the default items not counting towards the object limit.

Question, does Foundry use something similar in that Foundry's OLN factors in the default layout items? I would assume no but it's worth an ask.

HaloGAF has been slacking on picture story time, so I'm gonna have to step in.

Killtacular against a team of 3. It begins with me nading closed purple before I enter. I enter only to find a Flame Throwing camper waiting for me. He is low shields, probably from my grenades and after some shotty BR work, he is beat down for the first kill...
kill1.jpg

Next, I feel shots coming from closed street where this poor guy is trying to put shots on me. I quickly throw a nade which would bounce and explode squarely on his balls. The nade was follwed by a quick head shot as the announcement of "Double Kill" fills my ears.

kill2.jpg

Onward to kill 3. I throw a precautionary grenade (
some call it "Grenade Spamming"
) which does exactly what it's designed to do and send the weak ass General flying towards the ceiling where he is cleaned up by my trusty battle rifle. The blue circle with 3 stars pops on my screen and I've made it in time for a triple kill.

kill3.jpg

After disposing of the whole team, I though that would be my last kill. Thankfully, I was wrong. 2 helpless souls, 1 of which another General, spawn back gold and begin engaging my teamates on open street. I hit the X button and my Power Drain barely drops their shields thanks to a dead body.

kill3-4.jpg

With 2 enemy shields dropped, my eyes light up with the possibility for greatness. After a few shots, the 4th victim is dropped. What was once Killtacular is now Overkill.

kill4.jpg

The last enemy is already a one shot and with my swift BR, I swing over to deliver the final blow. What is oh so rarely heard rings true in my ears..."Killtacular!"

So from September 13th 2552 to October 20th 2552. A month and a week. Early April I guess.
Oh well...

Also: Coco, great job on the O.D.S.T. article, Ascendant Justice articles always bring a nerdy satisfied smile to my face.

Wow, I was thinking 7 years because of the "Gettysburg" part of it. I'm way off.

Dreams broken. Only good news that came out of that was that there'd be multiple variants upon release.
- 5 week wait
- only two spheres whose properties can't be changed
- No way of blocking off the exterior of the map or changing the map size in any other way other than wasting budget and OLN on a hundred blocks

:(

Oh well, I had a lot of hopes for the map most of which I thought were probably going to be false but I thought there'd be a surprise or two left about the map. Still excited to go in and get my forge on.

5 fucking weeks bullshit motherfucking MS die in a fire!

Question: are those other variants in the screens just examples of the kind of stuff that can be done (such as the maps other folks at Bungie put together for Foundry), or can we expect to see more than just the default layout in matchmaking any time soon? The interviews make it sound like we should only expect one version of Sandbox in the near-term. But it would be neat to see more than one in Matchmaking...

So it would seem. Well, I guess I am getting rusty. I used to be good at picking out pieces of info from stuff like this, but old age has finally set in -- if I had hair, it would likely be gray.

Sandbox still looks sweet and I'm hoping it plays sweet, but something does still feel a bit off about all this. I'm just curious about the whole "open world" and "multi-tiered" stuff we read about, and why Lars would even mention building up and building down, like where does that fit in? And I'm really surprised about the EDGE video thing, I really was thrown way off by that. I was sure it was real gameplay.

Oh well.

Good luck, Kev. Better luck next time. You can't win 'em all.

Zeouterlimits is correct, and if I'm not mistaken, I think it was 35 or 36 days in total. Good to get a "somewhat" concrete time frame out there and for what it's worth, I'm still looking forward to Sandbox and all of the Mythic Pack.

I considered it briefly after hearing some of the stuff coming out about Sandbox, but I'll just wait and get them with Halo: ODST.

I rarely play anything except Team Slayer and Team Doubles anyway, I doubt ODST will be too far from release when we start seeing those playlists, so it's not like I'll be missing out.

But hey, if we do somehow, in a strange twist of events, see these maps become required for my MM playlists at some point significantly before ODST drops, I'll applaud Bungie and grab the maps in a second. Until then, my Desolation remake will have to wait.

Unfortunately, I see quite a few people in other threads and on other boards, upset that they need the Legendary pack for some playlists. It's a messy and undesireable situation, that's for sure.

I just hope that the Legendary maps go free when Mythic Part A come out. When Cold Storage starts appearing regularly in regular MM playlists, the quality of MM will get a huge boost.

no wayyyy, that's why i keep it on 10. I can look around the map zoomed in. I just whip that shit around the screen. It lets me help teamates out too when they need help. I can put shots on everyone on the map really quickly. Also the close combat is great because I can look up and down really quickly.

Yeaaaaah... that's not smart...

You might think it's helping you, but it's not. Don't mean to be condescending, just trying to help

I just believe this because I went through the same thing in Halo 2 about 4 or 5 years ago. I was so convinced that 10 was an advantage and worked, and it felt pretty cool. But then one time I matched against a pro, I think it was either Naded or Cpt. Anarchy, and they asked what sensitivity I played on; when I said 10, they just laughed a bit and told me that it's really not a good idea.

I toned down to 5, and I didn't like it at first, but in a couple days I really improved alot.

But, hey, I guess some people are just crazy.

Dude this is what I have been saying. Even though CS feels a bit crowded with 8 players it would be nice to at least see it in matchmaking once and a while. It should be noted that I don't play FFA which I assume is the only place in matchmaking it is.

If they don't go free, that's gonna make for some odd splits in the Halo population. Although I'd love to know the numbers behind the correlation of Bought Heroic>Bought Legendary>Will buy Mythic. I wouldn't be surprised if almost all who currently have all the DLC will buy Mythic as well, thus not causing a huge issue. Any numbers on how many people bought the Legendary pack when the price drop hit?

I must admit I was a little sad to hear that all the "ALL DLC" playlists will remain so when Mythic hits. I was kinda hoping you'd all be shoved into DLC playlists again. Halo multiplayer has been growing on me and I was hoping for an unrestricted Social Big Team to return. Ah well, C'est la vie.

. It's on display when you head into Forge on Sandbox and it's meant to be used as a guide for lining up objects you pull from the map's wide and varied pallet. It's there to help you stay within the lines, so to speak.

Not quite a snap-to, but better than using the textures of the bedrock and sand to make a go of it.

Looks like I was right somewhat; aside from the "snap" feature.

I get Cold Storage frequently in doubles.

Cold Storage simply doesn't have the structure to be a consistently fun Team Slayer, Skirmish, or whatever type of map. It is fine for 3v3 Slayer, a small, fact-paced MLG Slayer match, and perhaps King of the Hill, but everything else wouldn't seem so enjoyable. For 4v4 its too crowded (like 8v8 in Standoff) and it isn't necessarily a CTF/Bomb type map. For Snipers it could be interesting, but that would require the radar to be removed to make it the most enjoyable experience it could offer. It's free, so no strong complaints. But I had wished we got Damnation instead. :\

As for the "blue" grid, it's something we should have expected. Still, better than nothing I suppose.

It turns out that all the default objects on Sandbox are automatically and irrevocably factored into the OLN. That means that if you delete them and create a blank "canvas," you won't be reclaiming those objects and you'll ultimately hit your OLN value long before you really should.

...........

fix it?

I started with 6 cuz that's what I played on in Halo 2. It wasn't working so I went to 4, then 3, then 5 and all around. I then tried 10 and my game improved. I'm not doing it because I think it feels cool or because I want attention for it. I do it because it's what works for me. And if some high and mighty pro laughed me for my sensitivity I wouldn't give a shit. I've played with and against pros and any time that I've lost or won, it wasn't because of my sensitivity. It's because of my knowledge of the maps and my decision making.

Sure it does. TS NEEDS it. The playlists are already pretty stale with regards to maps. I'd even take a Gemini remake at this point.

I remember the good old days, when Bungie said DLC would be free because that's the Bungie way.

For this, and other reasons (closure of Ensemble Studios, stupid nickle-diming philosophy), I hope that many bad things happen to Microsoft. On a Sega level.

I just went back and read my posts. Apparently I did think it would be a level raising tool, but in my heart I knew the black truth.
:lol

Yeah, I guess that's similar to mine and voc's "deleting the environment" idea. It may not have been the most sensible theory, but we felt certain that you'd be able to end up with the area that we see in the EDGE video. How you attained that state, I was never sure about. But urk laid down the hammer tonight about as firmly as one can; of course, there are still some loose ends floating about (various odd quotes regarding the map), but I don't see much of a way to assimilate them with urk's text in the BWU.

Hopefully Tuesday or Thursday will roll around and we'll finally get to see long-awaited infoz, including pics of the new "building blocks."

Eh, something for filler I'll take it. I wish more adjustments were made for Team Objective as well.

Maps are one thing, but game variants are another.

Social Team DLC: kinda like having a second account :lol

I decided to try and get the rest of the "On a Legendary map" achievements and noticed that in Social Team DLC, the team skill is a little....unbalanced. Not complaining....it's just funny that 90% of the time, I get matched up against a team with 2 guests, a sergeant and a lieutenant.

Got so sick of being locked out from playlist i broke down and bought the Legendary maps :( I became too weak.....

Avalanche is atleast one of the greatest maps ive ever played Halo wise. Do the vidmaster acheivements do anything?

If you unlock all the vidmaster achievements (including the ones not released and exclusive to ODST) you unlock the recon armor permutation.

Glad to hear you're happy with the purchase. Ghost Town and Avalanche are amazing maps and I still get giddy when Ghost Town BRs pops up.

Yes, the Halo 3 Artbook is amazing. You won't be disappointed with all the fantastic art pieces it contains -- especially if you're a fan of the Halo universe in general. And it seems like you are, so, yeah, you should definitely be satisfied.

Just noticed someone mention Cold Storage, I always wondered what playlist that was in as I have never played on it before (Granted I only play Ranked Team Slayer and Big Team Battle), so anyone want to fill in the blank there for me ?

I just went into the Killzone 2 demo thread.

That was a mistake. I feel like Lloyd Dobbler after visiting the Gas 'N' Sip.

Do not go in there.

I think it's hilarious. It's literally, for many of them, the first FPS they've played this generation. You get comments like, "I shot some of my AI team-mates, and then they all attacked me, I've never seen that in any FPS EVER.". I just saw another one where a guy claims it's incredibly detailed because he shot a fan and the fan moved. :lol

A lot of the more diehard FPS fans (that I play online with on the PS3) sorta left the thread leaving these people to their own devices.

Anyways, KILLBALLS (I felt obligated to type it in all caps) seem like a really good tool for map makers. Since you can't really create a "fall to your death" scenario in some of these maps, you can emulate it with this. I'm thinking some "Boarding Action" esque level where if you would have two of these in the middle and close it off so that it's a deathtrap.

Oh so good.
So many pretty, evocative and just plain awesome images in it.
I'd love digital versions, almost think it's a missed opportunity (put a key in each book to download them from B.net etc), I'd love to have some them as wallpaper...

This early April date is annoying for me, because by that point I'll be focusing on exams again. Oh well, things are the way they are. Now to look forward to O.D.S.T. gameplay, I'll be interested to see how it fares in a post COD4/Killzone 2 world.

I had really high hopes for the killball but their potential seems very limited now. I will be very surprised if it shows up in MM ever. It would have been much better to have a death rectangle and even better if it was editable like respawn zones. Having only two of these spheres who's radius seems to be only as big as a warthog means we'll never see floating maps unless forgers want to waste a ton of their budget funneling players into these relatively small areas. Being spheres they also take up a lot of vertical space so making jumps over them will be hard.

CS shows up in SWAT and Team Doubles IIRC.

This page should give you an overview of what to expect in each playlist.

Good points EasyB. Making them like respawn zones sounds like a good idea, that is, if you wanted to implement "fall to your death" zones.

Can you imagine a King of the Hill zone, with a KILLBALL in the middle of it? That would be nuts.

So playing through the campaign for the first time and I think it's amazing. It's in another league from previous games regarding presentation and art. I'm only sorry I didn't pick this up earlier.
