I haven't read much about the flashback parts but those aren't what interest me. What I'm interested in is seeing hub world and the complete sandbox style it should have similar to levels like Halo and The Silent Cartographer. Weapon-centric levels 343 and the library don't appeal to me much. I'm cool with being handed a sniper at the beginning of T&R and it being a fun weapon to use for the first half but those thrills are sort lived personally.

I know the flashbacks make for an easier way to show some nice scripted even or tell a story but I'd rather it all be within a single cohesive open-world game. Who know, they could pull it off in a manner that totally changes my mind but the thought of the game existing totally within one world, continuously, and through the eyes of a single character with any weapons he finds from mission to mission is just appealing to me.

Dutch's chapter will be epic and vehicle-heavy. Romeo's will have you on rooftops sniping from a distance. And so on with the two other characters. Perhaps Buck will have a shotgun and his level will be street-centric, and involve lots of close-quarters combat. And maybe Mickey will have the pistol and his level will play like a traditional Halo 1 level.
I hope we can abandon the sniper early on; it's a 3-5 hour game. That would suck if you didn't like one of the levels.

Hey guys, I've updated the Weekly HaloGAF Customs Night with some of the maps we'll be playing on tomorrow, ready for suggestions etc.

Also, I'm thinking of hosting two Halo Mythic Customs Nights. One to mark the early release of the Mythic Maps with Halo Wars and another to mark the release on the marketplace. Thoughts?

It's going have to be after the US release.

lol I remember a certain post that you said you would only mention that thread in here once and not spam it. I probably would have never thought about it but since your first post I can't help but make a mental note every time you link it :lol

It was suggested to me by a few people to mention it, once or twice a week as a reminder to some folks. LOL, if anyone objects, I'll gladly stop. Everyone seemed to have fun and I''m trying to get more involved.

Yes they were.
In the 'Art of Halo 3' it states that the level with forerunner tech as such was cut.
The concept art for the huge huge sentinels is really impressive. Great sense of scale.

The grid is just a grid, as i assumed, awesome. Interesting that the default objects are pre factored into the Sandbox map budget, clears up the slight confusion.
 
I understand the gird not being what was hyped of it, but I don't see why they couldnt've had a snapping feature. Oh wells.

Expected? There was no expectations except random guessing about aligning moons and changing the skybox and adding snow. Total bullshit dreamt up by rabid fans with the previous drought of information.

If they were going to add a snapping feature, they would have patched it in ages ago, it wasn't expected either, merely largely asked for.

Its just not how forge was designed, it would require an update (however large or small) to the game. I just don't see them figuring its worth it for the 2 forge maps, given the finality of this release.

Sketch is talking about working on a new gametype and map variant, "Fish in a Barrel" over the weekend. Early next week, you'll probably have a good idea of what kind of mechanics it might entail. I'm guessing the embargo ends next week, probably Monday since IGN said they will be showing more of Sandbox on Monday. If of course, this map is a Sandbox variant. Looking forward to it.

So, what could you decide to do with a Killball? Let's say you are King of Jerks. You might want to load up Forge, spawn a Killball, grab hold of it, and whiz around Sandbox with the damn thing dangling down, dealing out death to unsuspecting players who think they're just here to take some exclusive screenshots destined for the web in a few weeks.

I got Pac-Man ideas floating around in my head :D

I just went back and read my posts. Apparently I did think it would be a level raising tool, but in my heart I knew the black truth.
 
Hmm, what about Lars saying we could build down? Maybe we (or me) were looking into that statement too much? In the interview the IGN person kept saying "first floor", among other things.
