Yup. Which feeds into my point - MS is not considering what kind of experience people have playing the game, they are just leveraging the maps for marketing purposes.
Yeah, this is the problem. It's been stated many times before, but things are going to be a mess for playlists. Do you have: No maps? Heroic and Cold Storage only? Heroic and Legendary? Heroic and Mythic? Heroic, Legendary and Mythic? All of those are valid possibilities because of the HDD-optional state of the 360, and the fact that some maps are free and some still cost money.

Imagine if Legendary and Mythic(1/2) aren't free by the time ODST rolls around (do we even know if Mythic (2/2) is going to be released outside of OSTD?)

Man, I hope Halo 4 by Bungie can bypass this sort of clusterfuck.

I'm thinking we won't see a change until we get new IP from Bungie.

Seriously, Guitar Hero gets it and not Rock Band?

Sad fuggin' face.

I suck at Rock Band and only play it socially when friends/family come over to visit but I would so rock the Halo theme on Rock Band until my foot falls off from all of the bass kicks.

Heck, I would buy the entire Halo3 OST if it was available on Rock Band. :D

That would rock ... but for somereason I can work it on GHWT but RB2 ... I don't have the right timiing or something because fail songs I would kill on GHWT.

So Rockstar today announced the first GTAIV expansion pack will feature a 12-20 hour campaign, new multiplayer modes, radio stations and DJs, new weapons and vehicles, refined mechanics, new locations and minigames and even new TV shows. It will cost $20.

Reminder that Bungie released a brown warehouse that you're supposed to make your own fun in and a brown oval of pre-existing assets for $10.

Lets also remember that MS doesn't own the GTA IP but does in fact own the Halo IP.

Too bad GTA IV blows.

GH is a lot more lenient with the timing but they generally throw more notes out there. You can get through a lot ridiculous GH parts by hitting the buttons in a very general interpretation of the actual rhythm.

MS paid Rockstar $50 million up front to make that DLC so I'm pretty sure that $20 was set by MS and that MS gets every cent consumers pay for the content as they already paid R* off. MS set that $20 because they think that's the way they'll get the best return for their $50 million investment; MS is probably also dictates the price of the maps.

I'm glad you're hyped for the GTA DLC though.

MS should pay Rockstar to make some Halo maps. All the money MS has pumped into Bungie has resulted in a broken Lockout, a room of boxes, Destroyed Beauty (Texture Town), a huge ass map that no one plays, and the aforementioned brown oval. Standoff is probably the only good map that's been released post-launch.

Such a fair comparison.....

...

Nah, it aint. Besides, we still don't know the full extent of ODST at this point, so if you want to compare them (this is pointless) you may as well wait for more details outside of a few delicious early reports.

You know, I bet Bungie gets this sort of "feedback" daily.

I'm rather happy with my purchased room of boxes, brown ovals, etc. I don't care if get they made free either, I got my money's worth, enough to be ready to buy more maps in future in fact.

The main problem, isn't the quality of the maps currently released, it's the amount of time we've waited for more content. At this point we already know Bungie would have probably put them out sooner, but this isn't the case and I doubt anyone from Bungie has much input in their release, so I see no point in continue to bitch over it.

We are a few weeks away from more maps, some folk need to be putting on the party hats.

Bungie give us a Mythic Map media Assplosition naoh!

I actually agree that 10 bucks for 3 maps feels overpriced (even though I personally don't bat an eye at it), but this isn't a really fair comparison as already pointed out by many of the above posters.

The funniest thing is Standoff snipes. I mean we all know Shishka has no idea how to play Halo but sweet god consult somebody before working on the maps. Placing an enormous mesh fence in the middle of Standoff and a blue shield door in a corner doesn't make the map more fun to play. I have to imagine there are hundreds of kids around Washington who would come to the studio and test new gametypes all day for free if you guys wrote something on Bnet. Everybody would benefit.
Maybe he closed his eyes and tried it out.

Also, everyone does have a chance to get the maps once Halo Wars LE releases. I don't see why people shouldn't have an early entree in the playlist just because some people decided not to buy Halo Wars LE.

Four Door,

Precisely. All it takes is patience.

$10 looks like a steal to me right now. :lol

that's hardly fair either.
learn an ounce of patience... I'm actually starting to really agree with TDG, in that until these maps are in the lionshare of the playlists (or really, ALL of them).. they are kind of dead to me.

wat?
what's with all the dlc hate all of a sudden.
yea the pricing and the way it's handled sucks but the actual content is good.

avalanche is my second fav halo 3 map (behind valhalla)
foundry is good for what it is (forge playground)
the fans wanted remake of lockout (it just doesn't work as well in halo 3)
ghost town is an awesome medium asymmetrical map (we need more imo)
rat's nest is an awesome multi ctf map
standoff is fucking gorgeous(i don't actually like it gameplay wise)

Blackout and Rat's Nest (to a lesser degree) are the only disappointing DLC maps IMO. Biggest grip I have with the DLC is the lack of quantity. Any map
, with the exception of Valhalla,
is going to get old after enough games but if they were able to pump out 3 maps every 3 months the variety alone would make every map feel fresh and exciting. It's been 16 months and we've had a total of 7 maps... and on the current schedule it looks like we'll 13 maps over the 24 months between Halo 3's launch and OSTD.

If the maps had come out this fall (when they were ready) we'd have had 13 maps over ~13 months which would have been perfect. They then could have worked on even more maps for ODST's release. I'm still hoping MS pays a third party to make some Halo 3 maps/remakes if Bungie is done making maps for the game already.

One thing to note is even though they can't release the new maps yet they have the tools to release reworked maps yet continue to do very little.

When Heroic or Legendary whichever one had Ghost Town was released I remember seeing a video or something saying that Ghost Town had extended Forge options and adding a bridge in certain locations could change the entire flow of gameplay, we still have yet to see a Forged version of many maps in Halo 3 and the ones we do aren't that great and only designed for certain reasons (Removal of shield doors) and not for the reason of just expanding the maps out there for general play.

Have Shiska run around all the Forge communities pick out some good user created shit and turn it into a playlist release it relatively quick, forego the extensive testing and let the players test it. Read the feedback and flex according to the reviews not just react according to how Bungie thinks we should play the maps and such. Besides its not like Bungie hasn't released maps with problems before (examples: The Pit high room and The Pit Stairway spot you can crouch into Rats Nest fence area)

Meh, if anyone is going to spend $80 just to get the maps early then they're part of the problem.

Well we know it has a 3 hour campaign and maps that were finished last year... At the very least it better have a legitimate map editor ala Far Cry when it releases for $40.

In other news I'm happy we got 3-ball back this weekend. I'll be praying to G*d that Shishka keeps recycling the same tired dbl exp gametypes for the next year. There's certainly no reason to give the community something fresh, especially when maps are so few and far between. Keep up the good work.

Speaking of Dbl Exp when do we get to trade that shit in for tootsie rolls, dinosaur finger puppets and I think Domino might even be able to get a medium sized stuffed animal or that nerf gun?

Dirtbag said:
oh I bet the halo wars mythic maps get the dbl exp weekend playlist when the game releases.
:lol

Yeah, I know there will be a playlist set up (probably not double exp) for the tools that go out and buy the LE because not doing so would undermine MS's (Bungie's current publisher) entire exploit but a man can dream can he not?

GhaleonEB said:
I'm guessing they'll save that for when it hits Marketplace.

That's when it gets it full playlist update.

No, what I'm proposing is that the tools won't get a full playlist update until the maps can be bought on marketplace, and the only chance of having a populated playlist built around the Halo Wars LE would require a double exp playlist. I just don't see enough people hopping on the Halo Wars LE wagon to consistently fill a playlist.

Seems like that would just stir up more shit that solve anything. The losers that buy the LE just for the 3 maps will be pissed that they only have 4 days to play the maps in MM before waiting however long it is until they hit XBLM and those who don't buy the LE will be pissed that they've bought the Legendary maps which were supposed to give them access to the double exp weekends.

I would underestimate the rapidness of Halo fans, as long as the playlist is slayer oriented I'm sure there'll be a sufficient amount of people playing.

Although I'd like nothing more than you're prediction to be true. The less people in the playlist the more those who spent $70 for the maps will want the pack to hit XBLMP as well and the less likely MS will pull a stunt like this again.

are the problem.

Thanks for Dom's correction. The Halo Wars LE is $80 not $70...

As much as I want to say that I'm buying Halo Wars LE to play Halo Wars, that is just going to be another outright lie that I am telling myself to get the 3 new maps early.

Realistically speaking the math breakdown for the game comes out like this (before sales, coupons, and five finger discounts):

Halo Wars LCE $80 - http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage...+wars&lp=2&type=product&cp=1&id=1218036981020

Halo Wars $60 - http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage...+wars&lp=1&type=product&cp=1&id=1218016462627

So $80 - $60 = $20. That's just paying a $10 premium to get the game early if you truly are going to play Halo Wars.

But as much as I'm going to lie to myself I will probably not be able to play through the whole campaign of Halo Wars. However, being the Halo fan that I am, I will try my best to play through Halo Wars just to experience the story and cutscenes.

I may not know that I have a problem which is why I may be the problem. Sorry guys... :lol

I don't have the energy to go through the whole Halo Wars LE or not discussion again... nor do I think anyone really needs any further convincing.
I'm over cat helmets and whatever other garbage is thrown my way to extract a few extra bucks out of me. I like this new synergy tactic even less than the thrifty plastic garbage that was likely assembled and charged a premium for. Does anyone really even enjoy watching the special edition dvd shit?

To be fair, for the extra $10 you're spending you get a flaming warthog, a coaster and a few trading cards.

I'm mostly a regular edition kinda guy, but there's something I always crave with blockbuster releases (Halo, Gears, etc.) is the "Making of" documentaries.

I watch Halo 3's "Making of" and "24hrs at Bungie" religiously and for my own personal reasons. Sounds crazy, but it's what I do. :P

To each his own, I've always held this personal belief (which many disagree with me on) that such content should be included at no additional cost as promotional materials... but if people are willing to pay for it, who am I to argue with charging for it. Some of my favorite business sayings (and try not to take these personally) are "a sucker is born every minute" and "a fool and his money are easily parted." Take that for what its worth.

Of course, they could really use the term 'limited edition' properly and release extremely limited quantities which have inherit value thanks to their numbers... in which case we might be talking about something else entirely.

I wish more developers had ingame interactive commentaries. Valve knows what's up.

I fucking love those commentaries, it really starts to scratch the surface of what it takes to design games. Great for those with no connection with the industry.

Just gotta randomly complement Halo 3 on the graphics. On Standoff, I couldn't shoot a guy because the sun was in my eyes :lol

Can we get some sunglasses or a visor for the next update? :)

Always gets me when I'm assaulting the back of that base :P

While Halo 3 is undoubtedly jaggier than shit but I've always thought the lighting was impressive. It's rarely in your face with the lighting, never really throwing out crazy blooming just to do so, but it's subtle about it. Screens time:

I know exactly what the difference is between the old playlist and the new. I also know that there is a new influx of retards into a new playlist that I hope will shake out over time. Literally half my games tonight began with grenades immediately thrown under our warthogs , and several were long, dumb, stubborn 8-on-2 slogs after most of one team quit. It's really bad and unfun regardless of which side you are on.

ugh, Last Resort tonight, here's what I'm talking about, not only did they blow up our vehicles, they decided to go surfing instead of playing
