In snipers, one of my teammates was in a shotgun battle with a guy from the other team. I try to come to the rescue and.....I end up shooting my teammate in the back. Oops :lol

I do eventually kill the other guy--after wasting 2 more bullets--to try to redeem myself.

But if nobody likes playing it in the playlist it does show up in, kinda makes you wonder why anyone thinks a dedicated playlist would succeed on its own.

So much for "everyone wants this," hm?

Once in blue moon, everyone in the pre-game lobby will all veto Shotty Snipers/Team Snipers. But most of the time, I'm usually the only one that doesn't want to play.

I think I'll just go back to ranked Team Slayer (I played a few games last night and so far, I have yet to run into a sniper game). I just hope my hardcore teammates don't mind the fact that rarely use my mic. :)

Don't know if its been posted but H3 is back on top of major nelson's xbox live charts, no surprise but I like that it is.
It had a good run but once people find out that Bungie secretly took the EXP out of their game, everyone will go back to Too Human.

Indeed. Most folks might say "well it's a Japanese conference, so no good announcements for us there, anyway", but you might be surprised this year. Microsoft has actually been hyping their TGS conference for this year and on top of that, John Schappert is keynoting.

Usually the TGS speaker for Microsoft was the Xbox Japan Boss. Now John's flying all the way there to speak in the keynote. Somethins' goin' on.
Yeah, now that the 360's seen an ounce of success by having the strongest JRPG lineup with Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey, Infinite Undiscovery, Tales of Vesperia, and is now getting Final Fantasy 13; it wouldn't be MS unless they blew it by having some whitey announce a bunch of games the Japanese don't give a shit about.

The only complaint I ever hear about Social Slayer is the strong presence of Snipers. Well, and occasionally the soul that would rather play 5v5 than not have to push to talk.

I think that has less to do with everyone hating snipers than it does people going into Social Slayer with the intention of playing a regular slayer game.

Some people want to play Snipers, but not the people going into Social Slayer for some regular Halo action.

Shiska, can we expect an update of the playlist info. on Bungie.net? I want to see if the anecdotal frequency of Heavies in Squad Battle is backed up by raw percentages. And if it is, can we has longer laser timers and less Heavies generally?

Edit: Squad Battle should be like...

18% Team BRs
22% Multi-Flag
22% Neutral Bomb
11% One Flag/Bomb [ideally on High Ground/Last Resort]
11% Territories
8% Heavies
8% VIP

Maps: High Ground, Last Resort, Valhalla, Standoff, Rat's Nest, Sandtrap, Avalanche. Everything else is too small.

Also, VIP would be better (and you would see less VIP vetoing) if the VIP didn't have penalties and an overshield that is about as effective at stopping bullets as a quick coat of mosquito repellent.

This.

Just give a Snipers playlist a chance, if it fails then fine retire it. You gave BTB a chance so I don't see why you couldn't do it for this.

Also, Wu: You are the man.

I think... I think I agree with Shishka on Snipers....

I think most people go into social for a more relaxed gaming session and when snipes comes up you gotta actually try a tad to score some kills unless you're a freak and can lay down on your couch no scoping cross map all game. I do believe though that a dedicated snipes playlist would work well in hardcore.

You can't seriously believe that since people complain about sniper games in social slayer that there's no demand for a sniper playlist, can you?

That logic is baffling.

If you put the occasional slayer match in Team Objective, everyone would hate it and veto it, every time. Does that mean that Slayer shouldn't have it's own playlist?

I hope Bungie adds a team snipers playlist eventually, because I am so sick and fucking tired of reading you twerps posting the same tired arguments over and over and over. I don't think there is anything left to discuss about team snipers. Take it to the b.net forums and campaign there for the love of God, obviously just posting it here has gotten you guys nowhere. Now we've seen Shiska acknowledge you guys, you've officially been heard. No sense in continuing to repeat it here.

Twerps lol. I hope you're not talking to me and who the fuck are you to tell people where to post? Fucking jerk off.

Snipers playlist whinging: I'm with dirtbag. It'll happen or it won't, but either way it's not like Bungie are unaware of your wishes.

Personally I just want Snipers games to be Sniper/Pistol (or even Sniper/Beam) across the board, because having the shotgun makes it much less fun going for no scopes, and I can't win a shotgun duel over the Atlantic unless I surprise someone (see also: Hammers, Swords). Not that transatlantic latency should be a deciding influence here; I just think the Sniper/Pistol combo is a purer expression of what a Snipers game should be about.

Exactly.

You would think, given the "everyone wants this playlist" mentality of people arguing for a full time playlist (this is not a sentiment specific to juices, but rather the standard argument used by anyone that thinks the one gametype they want to play is the most important gametype in Halo), that they would recognize that Snipers is weighted so highly right now and flood that playlist, but if community reaction is any indicator, this has not been the case.

The Snipers "clique" are not that different from MLG in attitude or posturing. "Everyone knows this is the only playlist that matters." "Everyone wants this playlist." "Bungie isn't putting this playlist into rotation because they don't like us." "If Bungie put this playlist into rotation, it would easily be the most popular playlist in Matchmaking."

The MLG playlist had a really high population of players... For about three or four days. Then it dropped to about where it is now, ironically about a thousand or two less players at any given time than Team Hardcore had. The moral of the story? A group of players seeks only the best interests of that group of players, and their assessment of how successful their personalized playlist would be is often skewed by that same self interest.

I'm not opposed to Team Snipers as a full time playlist. However, I don't buy the standard arguments because I've seen them before. Dedicated playlists to niche gametypes seem like "foregone conclusions" to the people that play those niche gametypes because they play those niche gametypes.

If Juices responds now with some 15 paragraph post, he's going to get a kick in the nuts from yours truly.

Shishka heard you, and gave you a reasoned response. Now sshh.

LMAO at the MLG hopper having a lower general population than Team Hardcore.

I doubt they'll be bringing back Team Hardcore in place of MLG anytime soon, but fun fact nonetheless.

No, no. There's no plan to retire the MLG playlist. The population isn't stellar, but it's stable, so there's no reason to consider its removal. I was merely providing a basis for comparison to the reasoning I commonly hear for making ANY playlist dedicated to a community of players.

I just wish there was a way to NOT have Snipers-only matches mixed in with Ranked/Social Team Slayer. Barring that it would be nice to at least have their frequency dialed down considerably.

I think the Team Snipers love is considerably more than the Team Rockets or Team Swords love. Snipers seem to hit those suffering from teenage angst in just the right spots.

I'm pretty happy with the playlists as they stand. I mean I'd like Squad Battle to be as I described above, and Shotty Snipers buried in a shallow grave, but those are fairly minor quibbles. TU2 has brought a lot of improvements to my experience, particularly in Doubles. I like having a pistol with my AR. I love BR starts as standard in Squad Battle. The only elephant shitting in the room for me is the Legendary DLC not being free and so required across the board. So much would improve if it were.

Oh, I do have one other complaint: the zombies maps I have played (Ghost Town, with the broken basement teleport room; Rat's Nest, with the broken pipes) are terrible. Just fucking awful. They are the only games that I ever just put my controller down and walk away from until they are over. Infection should only ever be a weekend playlist; it is very rarely balanced, or interesting outside of Custom games, and people are doing far more interesting things with Custom games and Foundry creations than Bungie are implementing. Remove, remove, remove from my regular Halo experience.

no, it's a different situation.

when a group of four mlg players comes online, they rarely go into mlg playlist. why? because there's an alternative for mlg called gamebattles.com. if you schedule a match on gb you get better competition and less chance of a laggy match. or they just scrim a team in customs, or if their team's not on they join a party to play random fours or ffa. that's why the population isn't "stellar," but enough to warrant the existence of the playlist.

the players who would play team snipers would not have nor seek these alternatives.

Make it harder to rank up. It's too easy to get a 50. All the more dedicated players have already achieved the rank of 50 and stopped playing matchmaking. I have all together stopped playing halo because their is no point anymore. The only time I play halo is on my friends account or something to help him rank up.

You probably get this question all the time, but don't you find the game inherently fun to play? What you just said seems mind boggling.

Fuuuck this just blows my mind because it's like the people who got EXP banned and aren't playing anymore. Is rank seriously the only thing that keeps you playing? Christ, don't you actually have fun playing or something?
