Weird thing is, I can see my xbox.com profile just fine (an can access the account).

Just ran the networking test, and it failed at the Xbox Live step. Joy. :lol

Sigh. Flashbacks to early this year after the holidays. Crappy service for months.

Xbox.com- " Sorry, this page is unavailable."

Yea this is why I'm glad they did the prep in September rather than close to the holidays. Then again the new dash could break things. :lol

Everyone got booted from my game and I couldn't get back on XBL...all my diagnostics check out so it's on their end.

I'm thinking about retiring Thaedolus for year one and getting a new tag for year two...I'm sick of my K/D ratio being below 1 because my roommates played on my tag for so long.

The gamer is a fickle mistress.

I guess, but every time i play it I'm always constantly in awe at just how fucking perfectly paced the challenges are. One moment you're fighting for every piece of cover in a narrow corridor, peppered by grenades and trying to cover your back from flanks, the next you're jetting across open fields in an array of unique vehicles to astoundingly impressive backdrops, yet the next you're holding off the Flood in the alien version of zombie apocalypse. Facing off against a giant Scarab. It's all shifting strategies and lateral thinking, and the A.I. is well above most games in the genre.

And the graphics may not be the TOP OF THE CLASS, and those tiny running fucking aliens look absurd and stupid still, but outside of that the vibrant art design keeps everything constantly interesting. And it much more varied than past excursions imo.

And the little gameplay enhancements really make the experience stronger than Halo 1+2.

I just don't know why people complain about it. I guess someone people were all "the story noooo", but I always felt Halo's story was dumb as shit and could not relate to those who cared for it.

The series became too popular for too long, I guess (assuming that's a big part of the reason). As for the story, I figured most of the draw was in the backstory stuff, the Forerunner's war with the Flood. The Chief is pretty much a one-dimensional character, but he serves as a vessel of sorts to transport the player to more interesting stories.

I was playing with friends and we had some problems but were able to play, also what gametype are you guys getting all of these team snipers in, I haven't got one yet except for shotty snipes.

I was finally disconnected. It happened at an odd time too. After searching for matches for about 20 minutes, we decided to go into customs and -bam-. Dani and vhfive, you guys still on?

Yeah, just refreshed my friends list on xbox.com and everyone's offline.

Team Snipers was the second most popular playlist in Halo 2 after Team Slayer in the final auto update. Obviously people liked the gametype (or how it fit on the maps, ahem!).

It is also one of the most popular playlists for Double EXP. Far more popular than 3 Balls and Legendary Brawl.

Solution? Make it a permanent, ranked playlist, and remove it from Social and Team Slayer. Happiness for all who want to join SS and TS without playing Snipers.

Those who want Snipers all the time can have so in its Hardcore varied playlist.

Pretty please Bungie?

I think there should be a permanent Avalanche playlist. I'm sick of playing Standoff in DLC BT.

Avalanche Flags
Avalanche Assault
Avalanche Neutral Assault
Avalanche 1 Flag
Avalanche Slayer
Avalanche Heavy

Perfect playlist

I may be in the minority, but I actually think that Halo 3's campaign is the best of the trilogy. :X

I must correct myself, gameplay wise, it is the best.

Indeed. The story doesn't quite live up to the billing, but the gameplay, AI and level design are fantastic (Cortana notwithstanding).

Personally for the campaign I think Crows Nest has the greatest sequence of events and encounters.

Followed by The Covenant.

I liked the finale of Crow's Nest, there was a sense of urgency to get to safety, even though there was no timer on the level. When I first played the level, I thought a timer would pop up as soon the bomb was armed. I know Dan Miller originally intended for the timer to appear on the bomb, but some of the employees reacted strongly against it. I think it would have been a nice addition, but I'm not sure if it was intended for the bomb to go off at zero seconds, or not.

Haha, I actually had to think for a minute about where he mentioned that. Then I remembered.

I just logged on and my matchmaking options were funky -

Ranked
Basic Training
Hardcore

In Basic Training, there was only one playlist, also called "Basic Training."

It was for a maximum of 4 players, and it said something like "A place for new players to learn the ropes" or something like that.

All the social matchmaking options were gone.

Weird. o.0

EDIT: aaaand now, 5 seconds later, it's gone. The matchmaking options are back to normal. But it was there! I swear!

EDIT2: There's 12 people in the Rumble Pit hopper :lol :lol

That playlist only appears for brand-new players. Check the Matchmaking listings on Bungie.net.

Something tells me it's going to be a wacky holiday for Xbox Live.

Yea that's for new accounts you can play Basic Training until you have like 3 experience or something. Must have not loaded your information properly and thought you were a new account.

Ah, hm. I probably saw it because my player data hadn't been pulled from XBL yet. Once it was, that's prob why it went away.

[edit] Looks like I chose a good night to play poker instead of Halo :P

Low population? Are you kidding...it was the second most popular playlist in Halo 2 and it always draws in a large crowd for Double EXP weekends.

Lowering the weighting isn't going to appease anyone, it's just going to piss off the people who want Team Snipers and piss off the people who don't wan't Team Snipers, period.
The sniper in H2 and H3 are very different beasts. It was nearly a guaranteed headshot machine and but now it requires skill
and a good connection.
If so many people absolutely loved snipers then people wouldn't bitch about playing it. I can understand not wanting to get 6 games of snipes in a row but many just simply want the gametype completely stripped from SS and TS.

I'm not arguing that Bungie's way of handling it is clearly the best move, I'm just saying that it's not as simple as many here obviously believe. Or do people think that Bungie is intentionally making MM worse for the lawls? It sure isn't a matter of having to create maps/gametypes for a full-blown sniper playlist (it's already made for the double exp).

I'm not sure what reason is valid enough to warrant Team Snipers not being implemented into the Hardcore varied playlist. It's very competitive, takes skill to compete highly, and fun to many in the Halo community (based off population).

It would easily be #2 in population if created. It would surpass MLG, Objectives, Squad Battle, and Doubles handily in my opinion. It's proven to be highly populated before, and I can't see why it would change. To not make it a ranked, permanent playlist because it will take away players from Social Slayer, Team Slayer, SWAT, whatever is a truly ridiculous reason, if true. I thought Bungie wants playlists that will capture a lot of matches and players, not ones that have minimal players and just load up space (having two Big Team types, for instance). Team Snipers will assuredly bring in tons of players and games.

Creating new maps for Snipers still hasn't existed, unless they changed things so subtle I didn't recognize it. They changed the maps for SWAT and Squad Battle -- MLG I do not include because MLG themselves created it, but for basis they still use the variants. Certain maps should be edited for spawn starts (ie. in Last Resort where you will directly be looking at the opposing team from the get-go) and added or changed up equipment.

I don't see why more map changes are used for specific playlists anyways. It was done very often for Halo 2 and I think it would make certain playlists and gametypes more balanced and fresh.

I'm with you, even though there's some wonkyness with the storytelling.
I think Halo 1 has the best campaign, but Halo 3 definitely has the worse storytelling.

That is why my chief concern with this Halo 3 campaig "expansion" is the story. I hope it's good. I want it to be good.
And what's up with Halo 3 online? :lol

Sniper (and SWAT) matches don't really depend on equally sized teams. Sometime it can even be beneficial to have less teammates and more targets.

Heh - I had a Shotty Snipers game last night, too (just one), and the other team lost two players right at the start. (We lost one, too, but it was at the very end of the game.)

http://www.bungie.net/Stats/GameStatsHalo3.aspx?gameid=765202936&player=Louis Wu

They won - but not because they only had two players. They won because I couldn't kill them before they wasted the poor schmuck who went 2-19. (Seriously, I'd see shooting on the far side of the map, go running that way, and the guy would be dead... and then he'd respawn and die AGAIN before I could find the guy who killed him. Frustrating as hell. And I'd set my mic to be friends-only, accidentally, before the match started, so I couldn't even talk to him and tell him to go hide somewhere. )

I used to think I was the worst sniper in all of Halo 3. I don't think that any more.

I just went back over my last two weeks of playing - 12 Social Slayer matches, two of 'em were Shotty Snipers. Either I have really good luck, or some of you guys have really bad luck.

I made this yesterday for one of my Computer Science classes at school. Psuedo Java FTW.

KEEP IT CLEAN: JAVA EDITION :D
(It doesn't actually use any image files)
Give you guys something to look at while Live is down.

That's great! How's the bandwidth? Can I mention that on HBO, without causing you a headache? (Alternatively, can I mirror it?)

Lawl, just noticed that during the 8/21 Bungie podcast, Ske7ch says "Prepare to Drop" when referring to his off-air fart (@ 0:15).

Oh, man, I TOTALLY love it when folks find this stuff later; we had no context for it at the time, so nobody noticed it, and by now it's 2 months later, and nobody REMEMBERS it. Thanks for listening again. :D

Haha. I wonder when we'll get to hear their "lost" podcast that they mentioned they recorded for E3 and that would be available some time. Especially now that we have a context for it - the prepare to drop teaser.

Probably when the game itself is announced. The release of the trailer on bungie.net seems to me to be a compromise: Bungie got to show their trailer, but Microsoft did not announce the game. There's been no PR from them about this, and Bungie hasn't said anything other than "here's a teaser trailer". I'm guessing the deal was, Bungie got to mark their first anniversary of Halo 3 shipping, and Microsoft gets to set the date of the real announcement. My money is on TGS, but who knows.

Also: you're the man, Wu.

So not this weekend, but the next? That would be really cool.

I had some initial concerns that the content support for Halo 3 would be weaker than it was for Halo 2, due to Forge's user-end pliability and other projects Bungie is busy on. That has, to our advantage, not been anywhere near the case.

Dude that sounds like a great idea for a playlist.

It would be like a playlist where you spawn with the sniper rifle only. In teams of 4. They could call it Team Snipers.

Then they could remove it from the other playlists.

But if nobody likes playing it in the playlist it does show up in, kinda makes you wonder why anyone thinks a dedicated playlist would succeed on its own.

So much for "everyone wants this," hm?

Indeed. Most folks might say "well it's a Japanese conference, so no good announcements for us there, anyway", but you might be surprised this year. Microsoft has actually been hyping their TGS conference for this year and on top of that, John Schappert is keynoting.

Usually the TGS speaker for Microsoft was the Xbox Japan Boss. Now John's flying all the way there to speak in the keynote. Somethins' goin' on.
