Rhetorical questions still require question marks.

And on topic, Shotty Snipers on Boundless after vetoing Team Snipers on Last Resort can go to hell. Blueblur knows what I'm talkin about.
I know an easy solution! :)

I played Multi CTF on Boundless and it was quite fun, minus the latency, of course!

gauss hog breaks the halo 3 gameplay which is why it is not in most mp maps this story just proves it.
Guass Hog would only be fun to play in a map like Sandtrap, because it's massive and open. Maps like Valhalla and Stanoff, no way.

That's why on Halo 2 Big Team maps it was balanced and fun to use/fight.

Hell, even on a non-open map like Terminal it worked...

Sucks, Wu. Hopefully Urk can fix you up. He's handy in a foxhole.

A brief tale from Avalanche, Slayer Heavies (ohgodohgod).

I knocked a Warthog out of sight with a frag, then follow it up with a second, over the edge. Score a double-kill, though I don't see it happen. I assumed my mad grenade skills did it. Well, sort of.

You can see my follow-up grenade sailing down there, which set off the tripmine someone planted. That's what toasted'em. It was pretty funny watching the hog pinwheel over and land nose-down on the mine.

Also, random pic. Lots of guys driving around in Mongoose trying to get the splatter Achievement. It's kind of hilarious watching these guys zip around with Wraiths, Hornets, Warthogs, Choppers, Prowlers and Scorpions all getting blown up left and right.

Anyways, I just toss a trip mine at'em and let the lolz ensue.

That sucks...I'm unknowledgable in these things, did you even have recon, or was it just random dickery?
I have recon, but I haven't worn it in a while. (Well, that's not true - I wore the chest plate, but very few people recognize it.)

louis, after you get your account back call xbox support and request to have a password that you can tell them before they can help you or anybody claiming to be you
Great idea - thanks.

And thanks to everyone else for the kind words. Off to bed for me; gonna be a busy day tomorrow. :(

I was matched up against you and another about two weeks ago in Multi Team.

"OMG Recon!" -- why must people scream and get over-sensitive over a piece of armor? I don't get it.

It's probably better just to allow it to be used by anyone so things like this (hacking a person's account over it) do not happen.

Sorry to hear that, Wu. :(

Also some matchmaking oddities. A couple of us are playing in a large party and have switched from Squad Battle to DLC Big Team.

We played a extremely latency-riddled Squad Battle match, Big Team Slayer on Standoff, and I noticed a particular gamertag. MmmmmHmmmmmmmmm. I recall playing against gamertags similar to this one in Halo 2 matchmaking. Usually a "Mmmmmmmmm" gamertag was a player that modded. Happen to me quite a few times.

A few games later we switched to DLC Big Team and got a Multiflag CTF match on Rat's Nest. Once again there's a peculiar gamertag, mmmmmmmmmmmmhmm. And guess what? Another laggy match. Fortunately we ended up just constantly rushing their flag and I got lucky once defending a stolen flag with a Regenerator and a Hammer.

could you pm me your tip as well?

I'd like to think my account is pretty locked down, but certainly wouldnt mind the extra security.

Not really a security tip. Only after the face type stuff.

Yeah, I see you've finally got your old GT back, congrats.

Thanks. :)

Had it back for a while now, just didn't play with it for a little bit since you can't alter the email addy attached for 30-days following a change. After that, I was just lazy since I had rebuilt my playlist with the regulars. ;)

I can't stand when my teamates don't go after the laser with me on Avalanche. That's the most important thing to get on that map.

Its usually good to have your sniper watch over it, and at least 2 guys (if with 5 or more people on a team) rush it. If its 4 players, 2 in the hog, 1 sniper, 1 rush to laser, the hog could also provide support (just watch the missile pod).

How does the gauss hog "break the Halo 3 gameplay?" It worked great in Halo 2 and works great in Halo 3, when it's used. It's just the serious lack of imagination by playlist and playtype designers. The same goes for the Prowler. But it's nice to see that those other vehicles are making their way back into MM and there's more variety. Variety is good. Need moar sniperz!

Missile pods on Avalanche?

Yeah, I saw your beloved Prowler on Sandtrap. I believe Omlet and Ram had a good run with it.

Prowler fits in with Covenant gametypes well.

While it doesn't have the power attack like the Warthog does, it still can hurt teams with the turret and its maneuverability it has compared to others.

Maybe some day in Squad Battle, once the Heavy variants are reduced, they'll throw in Covenant CTF. I had hoped the playlist would revolve around Slayer on the larger maps and CTF/Bomb mix.

I think the Gauss Hog is a bit overpowered compared to what it was in Halo 2, which may be why we hardly ever see it in Matchmaking. It's so incredibly fun, though, and still possible to take down; I wish it was in waaay more variants/maps.

I may be mistaken (due to my lack of H2 knowledge) but it may be harder to take out hogs at a distance in H3 than in H2. It's easy enough to duck behind a corner/rock and stick a hog once it comes close enough but if they keep their distance and there isn't a laser/missile pod, they're really hard to take down.
Standoff is the only map a hog can roll around like this; a fact I love to take advantage of.
Now the default hog takes a second or more to mow someone down, and that's if their close. The Gauss Hog is pretty much a fast-moving semi-auto spartan laser that can take out a player from across the map.

It's overpowered in any situation save for a close-quarters map like Rat's Nest or a gametype with tons of lasers and missile pods (ugh).

Wasn't Halo 2's Gauss Hog much faster at shooting?

The lock on Rockets was the anti-vehicle eliminator in Halo 2. It made the Banshee, in particular, for the most part not so dominant.

The Warthog itself, while faster in Halo 2, isn't as powerful and dominant as it is in Halo 3. The chain gun got improved, but it seems to take more damage than its previous build.

I'm not sure a gauss would work well in Halo 3 UNLESS there's 2 Lasers per map and a quicker spawning missle pod. At least, for the Warthog's sake, they have a chance of survival if somebody has a missle pod locked on. A laser? Not a chance.

Gauss Hog in Headlong and Terminal was the best!

I've grown pretty sick of the laser as an anti-vehicle weapon. The lack of skill involved in using it is ridiculous. Some may disagree but I think the charge time should be even greater (although this would make it an almost useless anti-personnel weapon).

Don't hold your breath for Microsoft to steal you for their Halo team. What did you prefer, magical rockets?

I'm not really sure, and whatever I say is probably just subjective to personal experience. Homing rockets were pretty deadly in Halo 2, for sure. Generally, I feel like it's harder to dominate with a Warthog in Halo 3 than it was in Halo 2. I think I die a lot faster, and more often, especially in Hog vs. Hog showdowns. But I generally like to be the wheelman, so the fact that they're slower than in Halo 2 comes into my mind more than the damage done by the turret. I think the missile pod and laser make it easier to take down vehicles in general. I just wish the Gauss Hog was a bit weaker so it could be placed in more playlists. It was so awesome as the main vehicle on Zanzibar and Terminal.

I don't think it was much faster. Maybe 20-30%? It's far, far more devastating against infantry, though; you had to hit somebody dead center in Halo 2 to kill them, but not so anymore.

Yeah. Four Lasers on a map is way, way too many. There's no control involved.

Read my mind. I thought MGS was in dire need for a Chem E...

swander said:

Like I said I'd prefer it if the laser took twice as long to charge up so that the player had to really anticipate the vehicles movement or the vehicle had more time to get cover if they spotted the laser.

I know that can't happen, so realistically I would prefer the missile pod because it has audio cues, takes a while to reach the vehicle (so they can get cover or ditch the vehicle), and doesn't blow it up in one (or even two) shots. I'd like it even more if the map and vehicle loadout was balanced in a way that they could be, with enough skill, taken out with nades, pickups, or rockets.

Where the hell is the freakin' DLC in Big Team DLC? Seriously, I only end up on DLC about 40% of the time, with only like 20% of that being Avalanche, which is usually veto'd.

I didn't pay 600 Spacebucks to play Valhalla over and over again.

Are MLG and Swat the only no motion tracker playlists? If so, has there ever been talk of adding another? (Like Team Snipers apparently?)

And I think this punishing the quitters thing is a bad idea. You can't tell someone who spent $60.00 on your game that he HAS to play whatever map/variant that comes up. If you take away all the choice someone has, you can't act 'surprised' when they exercise their last option, to quit.

I know it's easy to blame the quitters, but I think you are misplacing the anger. Bungie created this system, matchmaking, with no server lists, and no ability to join a game in progress, thus preventing people from replacing quitters as they go. They created a system where quitting out is the only option to get out of a match you don't feel like playing, and they made it so it fucks everyone else in the process. Again I know it's easy to blame a quitter, but should a person HAVE to play a map/variant they don't want to? I certainly do not think so.

IMO the MM system was a huge step forward in online gaming and I'd like to see it in almost all other online games. We're finally seeing more developers incorporate this system (like COD4, the other online juggernaut). It makes finding game much quicker and although there are many instances of stacked match, overall it makes matches more fair. Games with distinct hosts always led to stacked teams and ridiculous booting.

I do enjoy going into customs and fine tuning a well-matched game against people I know and with every setting fine-tuned. Wish we did more of this.

sigh, haven't had Team BRs/Team Slayer on Ghost Town in forever.

Why did DLC Slayer have to go? :(
Agreed, that's the playlist I miss the most. Although I can see why they'd want to have a playlist for shenanigans like Infection.

I haven't played nearly as much Halo 3 as most of you, but I've still put in a good # of games (~650). I can say, with a good degree of certainty, that I had my absolute CRAZIEST game of Halo 3, earlier tonight.

It was multi-team on Guardian, and literally almost ever single kill/death is film worthy. Going through it once, I made 4 clips. Moments that would have been the highlight of other matches didn't even make the cut, this time (like when my sticky bounced off a fresh bubble shield, then bounced off the wall BEHIND me, and finally landed on my leg, for a suicide).

The entire match the four teams were constantly mixing it up. There were almost no encounters of just two colors... half the time I wouldn't even know who to shoot.

It'll take me a while, but I'm slooowly going to get the four clips to gamevee... when they're all ready it should be sweet.

I'm hoping that the day Legendary [possibly] becomes 400 points, that Shishka can make Social Slayer Legendary required.

I need mah Team BRs/Slayer on Ghost Town and Blackout.

That's all good and well but how many of the whopping 1750 possible achievement points have you gotten? :D

Only 550. I wanna play through legendary with some peeps sometime, though. Not interested in doing it solo.

I see what you did there

Normally, I read the entire thread up to where I post, but no time tonight.

A few GAFfers on my friends list, so it's worth pointing out - account's been hacked, any message you receive from 'Louis Wu' between about an hour ago and when this gets resolved (if?) is bogus.

Good part of having friends at Bungie/XBL - the dickwad's been completely banned from Halo 3 (even the lobby). Bad part - I can't play right now. :(
Oh. :( That' really sucks Wu.

Went to go play some games and I forgot that XBL was down today. But, it reminded me that I needed to post my favorite Halo 3 Campaign levels, in order.

1. The Covenant - Probably because it closely follows the old Halo: CE formula, this level has everything. Aerial battles, beautiful Forerunner environments, the best scarab battle, killing Truth, flood and Covenant battles... <3
2. The Ark - The wow moment on this level for me came when Foward Unto Dawn came down over your head: awesome. This level had "Tank beats everything!" as well as good encounters inside of Forerunner structures.
3. Halo - The driving section... <3
4. The Storm - You get your first scarab battle on this level, which is probably the best scarab battle where you only fight one. Loved all the fights against the brutes inside the Traxus warehouse, the view of the Covenant excavating the portal to the Ark is most amazing.
5. Crow's Nest - The best brute encounters of the entire game, best place to use the shot-gun which I love to use.
6. Tsavo Highway - the best part of this whole level was when the Covenant ship flew over your head. It had some pretty good vehicle encounters, but other than that I found it pretty underwhelming.
7. Floodgate - loved the lighting in this level, and introduces the Flood, and it does a much better job at making the Flood more enjoyable to fight than "Cortana."
8. Sierra 117 - I thought this level was okay. Didn't feel like I was fighting in a jungle for the most part, and it felt like I was fighting inside even though I was outdoors.
9. Cortana - I don't think I need to explain why it's at the bottom.

I don't think matchmaking is bad, I'm just saying this quitting problem is a direct result of it. And if we use COD4 as an example, they have joining mid-game. Of course they don't have host migration, I imagine it would be to difficult for COD to add host migration and Halo to add joining a game in progress. But those are both choices each developer made, and they have to deal with the consequences, and not just blame the guy who doesn't want to play snipers, or endure more shield door shenanigans on snowbound etc. etc.
