It makes sense when you talk about it like that, but then again it wouldn't make sense to give all that stuff out for free. The folks who work at Bungie need to eat too you know! They've already spent all their Halo 3 bonuses I'm sure. :)

Just a reminder, folks. You may see some new achievements popping up in your Halo 3 Achievement List. You can earn some of these when TU2 goes live (around 2 a.m. on Sept. 23).

So probably no new maps tomorrow, but maybe reveal? 25th maps go live? Or reveal on 25th, maps go live at a later date? Oh and SI reveal... :S

Sorry, the double post was meant to be an edit, but since I can't delete the post, I'm just keeping it as it is.

I'm really not thinking the Mythic pack will be free, I am doubting they would release it without any marketing hype via all the usual sites.

That's a crappy update, they just linked to the older update, which many people have read multiple times already.
 
I hope the Legendary Map Pack goes free. Then I will have officially paid $0 for maps so far :D

Two things:

1) You can earn some of these when TU2 goes live

Probably the Legendary ones only, combined with an announcement about the other 20.

2) around 2 a.m. on Sept. 23

Welp, no sleep for me tonight!
 
Keep in mind that the *only* way the extra Mass Effect achievement popped up on people's gamercards sans a patch was when you purchased the "Bringing Down the Sky" content,
AFAIK lol

So purchasing the Mythic Map Pack activates the extra 20 achievements?..

I think this is the key line: "You can earn some of these when TU2 goes live". I'm guessing they had to release all of the achievements at once because of Microsoft XBL policy. It would have been too much hassle to release the achievements in two waves (one to coincide with AU2 and another to coincide with the Mythic pack).

Here’s a look at these achievements which can be earned via the Legendary Maps and Halo 3 Campaign:

* Vidmaster Challenge: Lightswitch (0 points) – Get to the rank of Lieutenant in any playlist in the new EXP progression system.
* Vidmaster Challenge: 7 on 7 (0 points) – Enter into any ranked or social playlist with 7 EXP on the 7th of the month.
* Vidmaster Challenge: Annual (0 points) – After 9/25/08, complete Halo on 4-player Legendary LIVE co-op, with Iron, and everyone in Ghosts.
* Double Double (25 points) – On a Legendary map, get two Double Kills during any ranked or social match.
* Poor Yorick (25 points) – On a Legendary map, get 3 Oddball melee kills during any ranked or social match.
* Came…From…Behind (50 points) – On a Legendary map, get 3 assassinations during any ranked or social match.
* Defend This (50 points) – On a Legendary map, get a flag melee kill during any ranked or social match.
* Flag Dropped (25 points) – On a Legendary map, get 2 flag carrier kills during any ranked or social match.
* Road Rage (25 points) – On a Legendary map, get 5 Warthog chaingun kills during any ranked or social match.
* Look Both Ways (50 points) – On a Legendary map, get a Splatter Spree during any ranked or social match.

I assume. These ones aren't secret. The rest are.

I just copy-pasted the ones from the update :P I figure they'd leave the rest of them secret until the 6 maps came out, to account for the other 500 points.
 
I'm sorry if this question has been answered already, but will any of these achievements be retroactive? I ask this because I know I've completed a few of these already and it would be nice to turn on my console to the "achievement unlocked" message.

The list was right - those are the only 10 ones that are unlockable until Mythic arrives. Looks like that's why the achievements on Bungie.net were only showing 250g at first.

That is a little odd, isn't it.

I wonder if grabbing the skull during a match would enact its effects for everyone for the whole match?

Or perhaps it just adds a new skull option for campaign? That could be considered new campaign content.
