Just noticed that halo.bungie.org actually forwards you to nikon.bungie.org
How long has that been in effect? Has it always been that way and I just never noticed?

Was this done after the ip split from bungie at the request of MS/Bungie?

Is there some significance to "Nikon" in the halo verse that I have missed?

Up until 2003, halo.bungie.org was a Macintosh server, running OS 9.x and Webstar 4.5. At some point, the popularity of the site simply exceeded the capabilities of an OS9 machine - but I couldn't switch to something more robust easily, because the entire site had been coded in a Mac-only server-side language called MGI. (It's sort of like PHP for dummies.) So step one was to offload all the static content to a unix server. (This was a pretty common practice in the 90s, actually; one server handled html and interpreted languages, another handled media. Not so much any more, because folks with heavy needs simply move to clusters... but in 2003, it was a decent low-budget choice.)

So I brought a FreeBSD machine (intel-based) online for images - and called it nikon. (Seems like the name choice should be pretty clear, no?)

It helped - but only temporarily. Traffic continued to climb, and the mac continued to be overloaded. I started the process of moving ALL content from the mac to the unix box.

I'm still doing that. :( (It's simply something I never find time for.)

For now, though, most of the time, links will redirect to nikon. I try to get people to link to the halo.bungie.org version, because SOMEDAY, I'll finish the migration, and I'd rather that any links out there in the wild were pointed to the main domain... but I've accepted that SOMEDAY might be 10 years from now. :(

Does that make more sense?

so who's idea is it for the GAF top 10, I have some video editing and modeling experience, I may be able to whip up a quick demo of it, I have classes a 2-4 EST so maybe after that I'll show you guys a what I have.

I had an idea for a montage back in Halo 2 that I wanted to do. It was basically a reverse-montage in that instead of me showing off spectacular ownage, I'd show me getting spectacularly owned. I didn't have any means of making it, though, so I never made it.

A few days ago I decided to make something vaguely resembling this, in the form of a blog (My Poor Dead Spartan). It's new, so I don't have a lot of good pics, but I enjoyed making it, and maybe some of you can relate to few of the pictures and hopefully get a chuckle out of it.

At some point in this thread there were some pretty awesome failtages, they were also posted on b.net IIRC I don't remember where they originated from though.

I could do this too. I'm fairly proficient with Sony Vegas. If we wanna go that far, maybe just posting them on the NGHC file share is good enough?

I'm feeling sorta guilty, I've been neglecting H3 in favor of RB2 and NHL09. AU 2 was originally supposed to drop 2 days ago, right? Are we assuming it's coming on the 25th now?

I like the end, dawn is about to break, maybe new game/map news is incoming very shortly. It would put a smile on my face.
Confirmation perhaps of this mysterious event that is happening next week?

6v6 should be excellent. Wish they would release some information on what maps and gametypes will be high weighted during its tenure. Valhalla, Last Resort, and Standoff, plz?

Hmm...
Shishka is shuffling up the existing suite of playlists, moving things around, deleting others and adding some new playlists.
Team Snipers, yes?

Announcement next week confirmed?
I thought he was simply referring to the changes in the playlists and AU. Maybe a map reveal. Could be something bigger of course, but I'll reserve my hype.

Just when I was bitchin about Bungie being too secretive, two days later, they release a juicy BWU early. I swear, sometimes it's like I have Darwin ESP.

Great stuff coming next week, can't wait. I better get all the non-H3 gaming in that I can before next weekend.

Oh, great cameo on GFW this week Luke, some of that shit was gold!

If I haven't yet bought the newest (thought old now) DLC maps would I be better off waiting to see if there is some kind of map pack released like Halo 2?

There should be a map pack release coming. I'd wait for that, personally.
