I'm sure it's automated as well.

Seems like a whole lotta bullshit when they could just get volunteers to capture stuff.

Especially considering it's free, and there are no ads on the site or in videos. You guys are looking into this waaay too much.

You're joking. Who's going to volunteer to manually do a job like that 24/7? I submitted a video at 3 AM Eastern and it was online 15 minutes later. Even if they're on the west coast, who's sitting there at midnight downloading videos to fileshare, running them, capturing them and uploading them to GameVee?

Please.

1 Halo, 2 IPs, or the other way around?

I'm hoping for that, but I think it'll be 2 Halos, 1 new IP.

Or 1 Halo, 1 Marathon, 1 new IP since Bungie owns the Marathon IP and just because they say "some familiar", doesn't mean that it HAS to be Halo. :D

Urk is actually a one man army. Not only that, but a small one.

lol, who's modifying their xbox to merge with the computer and have computer sex so they can talk to each other, and making a big huge complicated system for video capture?

Also, there are other places in the world besides America. If it's 3AM on the east coast its like 5pm in Europe.
Not a modified xbox, a modified controller. They would have a little program that would find player's name> saved film, then flip on the capture card, then start the saved film.

Or something like that, it's not exactly insanely confusing business.

If this is a joke please stop, my fragile little mind can't take this on the internet.

Hey, I don't know if this has been posted but http://www.xbox360fanboy.com/2008/09/08/rumor-ms-planning-five-hour-long-new-xbox-experience-media-blit/

It seems way to good to be true but if for some reason it is true, I can see a neogaf exploding over the immense awesomeness, but once again its only a rumor.

There may be a gram of truth to that rumor. Luke hinted that the release of AU2 may come closer to the anniversary of Halo 3's release than the 16th. It could be that the release will be tethered to the announcement of new maps, all part of this big announcement bonanza from Microsoft. (They are the publisher, after all.)

The author may be confusing the "free content" in AU2 - map changes (Sandtarp, etc.) and Achievements as opposed to maps, which will most certainly not be free.

No way is that rumor true. Microsoft releasing this huge DLC pack for Halo 3 for free? HOLY SHIT. The whole event sounds really awesome, but I'll keep my hopes down for now until it's announced. 2 new Halo games, new conker, AC2, ME2? No way. Please be true.

Yeah, like I said they probably have a little party planned but I doubt that it will be this super awesome rumor. Plus if you read the actual forum topic, he said that their are still some things that he didn't post that seemed very crazy. So we'll just see what happens, if its true great, if it isn't, its not like we were expecting it.

New Zune hard drive sizes (and new firmware) come out on the 16th-- coincidence??!

I'd also like to point out the podcast where Luke and the boys comment on how difficult it was to get MS to agree to free Cold Storage (a single map).. And then go on to point out that the legendary maps still aren't free, and if any map packs go free on this day, it will be these old maps first.. long before there is a free map pack of new maps (what looks to be anywhere from 3-6 maps in total).

Keep dreaming guys.

Well, considering the rumor started on the vg-chartz forums and was reported first by joystick, two banned websites, I'm a wee bit skeptical.

It's not a joke. Their system is fucking automated. I'm a programmer. Their website on its own is thousands of man-hours of work, likely costs them thousands of dollars per month for hosting, storage and bandwidth. It's possible, but highly unlikely, that they're paying employees to manually post the files, but I would be willing to bet real money that it's automated if I could find a way to prove it. For example, I would bet $500 against your $100 that it's entirely automated.

Jesus, thats where this is originating. VG-chartz! :lol

Flakey reporting on rumors.

VG-Chartz because they cook sales stats.

I see, but anyways if it wasn't so filled with free items and maybe was a little less full of announcements, then it could possibly happen but most likely won't.

Well I assume its automated only because I don't see the problem with automating it. A semi-experienced programmer could probably put something together. Ill take it from start to finish. It only seems difficult because of all the steps but breaking them down seems to simplify the process.

Step 1- Create a webpage that lets the user fill out a form that requires gamertag and video name

Step 2- Take form and create a program on a computer that logs in b.net and goes to the fileshare page of X gamertag (from form) and queue download of X video (from form). Repeat til queue filled.

Step 3: Have computer boot up attached 360 once queue is filled.

Step 4: Download videos (this is already automatic) have an altered joypad that macros the buttons to enter theater and load and play video.

Step 5: Have capture card in a computer start capturing, play through all 8 videos. Based on length of videos split the videos up using automated cap card software. Might be hard to program something to do that, I don't know I'm not a programmer.

Step 6: Upload videos to Gamevee, fill out any upload forms, descriptions from form or whatever.

Step 7: Email user

Things Required:

One PC with HD Cap Card and Video Cap/Editing Software hooked up to Internet connected to a 360 hooked up to Live.

Of course theres probably a whole system of computers and xboxes and all the demand is sent to a central queue that gets sent down to a specific unit whenever a computer/xbox system finished its load.

Welp' that's how I wouldd think it'd be done. Of course theres a few more intermediate steps like removing the videos after capture and whatnot but the jist is there.

I don't see how it could be manual. Way too many videos being added.

Well a good example is how joystick runs with the line "VGA Charts is running a megaton rumor about the launch of the new Xbox 360 dashboard." and then links to a forum post.

Doesnt sound very much like they are the ones "running a megaton rumor" does it?

well the sad thing is it looks like gametrailers forums believe this is real, there is going to be a riot when it proves false. Some people said its too much to make up and be fake.

bungee will announce Hal0 4 on septembr 25th, first anniversarry of Halo 3. I know this because I'm a Bungle employee, don't believe me I'm an employee I has Recon.

Starts F5ing stiq of joy

The only thing I really doubt is the 6 free xbox originals.

The rest isnt that farfetched. I mean news regarding Halo 3 free dlc...thats just Legendary going free when they announce the new stuff coming. More Mass Effect DLC thats nothing crazy. ME2 is already known the game is a trilogy.

Sirius deal, ok?

and gamevee is at least semi-automated :

True and it would give them a huge boost going into the holiday season, this along with the price cut could boost 360 sales since they have been slumping recently. Who knows maybe more info will come or not, plus you never know what the Bungie weekly update will have in store for us on Friday. (most likely not related to the rumor but maybe something on the new maps or so)

Is it possible the number of IPs related to Halo could actually be four?

You have Halo Wars, The Halo Chronicles, the unannounced Halo project (Don Mattrick) by Bungie, and Halo 4 (Microsoft, Gearbox, etc.).

Maybe not actually Halo 4, but around the events of Halo?

the last 2 could possibly the same though, we know microsoft has an internal halo team but they could also be working with bungie in some way.

Which is the one Peter Jackson is working on?

Chronicles (allegedly)
The "Peter Jackson project" is indeed Chronicles. Speaking of which - when was the last time Weta, Peter Jackson or Wingnut Interactive (Weta's game studio) were mentioned in connection with the project? We know MS is staffing up like crazy for it, but I haven't heard those guys in connection with Chronicles in a long time.

weta is officially MS in disguise confirmed.

Didn't they have a guest on the Bungie podcast a looooong time ago that was a big part of the Peter Jackson project, and was saying that they were about halfway through the development lifespan of the game, or am I making that up?

Nah. I think Staten said that.

I'm starting to worry about it personally.
We should have heard something / anything new by now. There has been relatively zero news... and since the developing Bungie split, I wouldnt be surprised if this project gets switched/merged with the Gearbox project since MS now owns the IP.

Yup. I believe he said "I was down in New Zealand working on Chronicles.. oops, I don't think I'm supposed to say that, are we allowed to say what it is?"

Frankie: "Don't freak kids, it's just a codename for PJ's Halo project. JUST a codename."

I've listened to that specific show way too many times.

Meh, I'm a bit worried as well, but I'm guessing when it was announced at X06, it was just an "idea" and a "at least you know we're working on more Halos after Halo 3!" kind of thing. It's just now that it's been taken to the production level thus MS's increase in ramping up employment.

I'm hoping we hear something about it by the end of this year.

Makes me think it's not a game at all.

I'm not convinced that is what is happening here. I think its possible the bungie / ms split stalled the project, or something else entirely (like troubled development).

Not exactly:

As Moore spoke, Jackson himself took the stage to illuminate the crowd about the franchise, which will apparently not consist of the average Halo game. "It's a form of entertainment that's not a game and it's not a film. It's a filmic game experience," Jackson told an enthusiastic crowd. "I think we're on a threshold of a new way to tell stories. With that in mind, we discussed a way to do it, and with that in mind, we decided that the first title should be something that will allow us to not have to devise a whole new world but to allow us to tell the story."
