Yes. I did it with my friend for his achievements (and mine). We each just held back while the other took all the kills. It was fun!

Do keep in mind that to get it your individual score needs to hit the mark, not the overall team score.

edit: beat

I read this "theory" on the whole leak and its situation, and thought this was somewhat possible. I'm split on this theory, but some things have led to this being true.

If you look at the new achievements we posted, you'll see that new skulls are going to be added into the game (remembering at this stage these achievements aren't confirmed to be coming to Halo 3 Retail), these skulls being called "Heretic", "Assembly" & "Citadel". The Citadel & Heretic skulls can be placed in certain campaign levels quite easily, but the Assembly skull? I believe the Assembly skull to be a whole different story (Quite literally). With Bungie lifting the iron clad veil on the Multiplayer map Assembly last week, I'm pretty sure we're not dealing with a simple coincidence here. Now unless we're looking at an introduction of Multiplayer Skulls, I would put money on Assembly not only being a Multiplayer Map, but also a Campaign Expansion.

For those of you thinking "How would they work an expansion into the game, it ended so well". Well I think what we'll see from "Mythic" is a well placed campaign expansion mission (or possibly a few), similar to how they worked Gears of War PC - Giving the players without the content the same story and the players with the content a little bit more.
I think we've done quite a good job on explaining the reasons backing up our theory that Assembly will also be a Campaign expansion, however lets being together the facts.

We know that Assembly is a multiplayer map, however Bungie have said nothing about how it will be distributed (Which leaves this being included in a "Mythic" campaign expansion a possibility).

Sandtrap is a glorious map as long as it's not a ridiculous Ghost-flooded Covie game. It also remains the only map with default choppers.

I wouldn't mind covies as much on it if they didn't take the splazer out

Also EazyB, 1 sided Avalanche has default choppers.
But it also has the Scorpian tank...

There is not going to be a campaign expansion. I'd take that bet.
Agreed, no way there's going to be an extra campaign missions let a lone one for each new skull in that achievement list (5?). No way, no how, wouldn't count on it.

Playing Lone Wolves again. Striving for that coveted 50. I've come across Oddball on Blackout and I can't believe it is even in this playlist. Such a ridiculous match with lucky spawns being your best bet to winning.

I read a similar theory on shacknews, although they based all their evidence on the fact someone saw "Halo 3 Mythic" running at PAX. (they also lifted some from that website as well)

This "3 DLC packs = 750pts" nonsense has to stop. Its 250pts extra and that's it. If every piece of DLC allowed developers to add 250pts then Ace Combat 6 would be a 10,000pt game. Chances are Bungie have been playtesting potential achievements to put into the DLC update (because its about time we had new achievements) and people saw something that was meant for the devkits eyes only. I think we'll get new achievements, but not 30 of 'em.

I'd love a campaign expansion but I just don't think its going to happen. We'll get new maps, some new game modes, hopefully some new armour or customization and I think that will be it. Some sort of co-op 'horde' mode would rock balls but...Gears 2 and Left4Dead will have the co-op gaming mode sewn up this Q4.

Looking forward to some news from Bungie on all of this though, lets hope they come out with something soon. (Like....now!)

I agree. That entire theory is based off of the premise that it's more likely that they're adding new campaign missions than doing something new with skulls. I think the latter of those theories is way more likely.

Yeah, objective games in LW IMO are all about where you spawn. I hate it on a crazy king game when you always seem to spawn on the other side of the map.

That's exactly the way that match played out.

I thought this too, when I first saw the new achievements.

So say the Assembly skull is just for the map how could the hide it someplace difficult to find without kinda breaking the map, and more importantly can I smack people with it LOL.

forge

assuming of course those achievements are all final... which I'd say is probable (at best) at this point.

It would be outside the map somewhere, or someplace you couldn't regularly access. Anybody remember the message on Backwash?

I'm waiting until its 8 players before I give it another chance. That playlist just pisses me off to absurd extents.
I avoid FFA at all cost so I'm no expert on what plays well in it. That said, adding an extra 2 players on it makes me want to avoid the playlist even more because the things I hate about it seem like they'd only become worse.

The spawns will be crazier considering there's less open safe spawn points.
There will be less 1 on 1 battles because the maps will be more crowded which leads to more kill jacking.

So what is it about the addition of 2 players that's so attractive?

No game can exceed 1250 total gamerpoints. Period.

It doesn't matter if it has 1 DLC expansion, or 3, or 30. You get 1250 points and that's all you ever get, ever.

So that leaves TWO OPTIONS:

1) The achievements are fake.

2) There is a new Halo retail release of some kind forthcoming.

...That's it. It's one or the other. All evidence points to #2, but that's neither here nor there... I'm just trying to separate FACT from SPECULATION.

EazyB said:

Positioning (spawns = luck) becomes less important , quick trigger finger and headshots (skill) become more important (things I'm better at than other players).

I guess its a preference thing. I dunno.

or 4). MS has changed the rules.

There are four options total.
I think its a combination of 2 and 3 personally. I think bungie's reaction to the pictures lead me to believe they weren't finalized yet.

What makes you think that's set in stone? Nothing here is. If Microsoft want to let Bungie do this, they can.

Well, the orange box does have 99 achievements if i remember correctly, but who knows what's going on the achievements found at PAX.

GhaleonEB said:
That's what I've been trying to tell people.

There were 79 Achievements listed. It's not possible to have 79, even with DLC. 50 for the game, 10 for DLC. Even a new SKU can't have 79.

I thought you could have any number of achievements you'd like, just the total points value was locked.

Well either you don't know what the hell you are talking about, or Microsoft must have made an exception then, because the achievements were 100% real at PAX.

10 for DLC, yes. There are 3 DLC on Halo 3. Even if supposedly you can't do that (it fits the rules posted though) then MS Must've made an exception. I'm sorry guys, but there is no point to trying to debunk it, it was at PAX and that is fact.

Of course it's possible. It's hardly something hardcoded into the 360 that a game can have no more than 50 achievements. At one point a game could never exceed 1000 achievements, and now that's not the case. Tempus fugit, meus amicus.

You speak the truth, though I think Valve had to ask MS for an exception--I'm sure they'd do the same for Halo though.
Edit: Here, for all the doubters that you can only add a max of 250 pts through any amount of DLC, or at least that this has been the rule so far: http://www.gamespot.com/news/6165256.html

Which is why there could possibly be a new Halo 3 SKU titled "Halo 3 Mythic" which would contain 30 achievements? Then, it can have more than 250 achievement points (I think).

But seriously, Halo is Microsoft's IP. If they want to release more than 250 achievement points for Halo 3, they can. But of course, they'd have to apply this new achievement rule for all publishers which is no problem considering achievements bring in the $$$ from the achievement whores.

You're incredibly naive if you don't think Achievements represent big business for Microsoft's Xbox team, and for publishers releasing 360 games.

It's a fact that games with secret achievements sell fewer copies than games with public ones. It's a fact that lots of games are sometimes played just for the achievements, and that games are played LONGER in the pursuit of achievements. Publishers want you interacting with their game, their brands, for as long as possible.

For MS to allow their flagship title to offer more achievement points than any other 360 title is unthinkable. It won't happen.

I'd take a ben bet on it in fact, if someone wanted to take the other side. The Halo 3 retail release that came out last year will never, ever offer gamers the opportunity to earn more than 1250 gamerpoints.

I just hope we find out soon either way. I do find it hard to believe that Bungie would put all this effort and time into new achievements to release with a simple map pack. Not everyone has xbox live so for Bungie to put out something like this I think it would have to appeal to the entire Halo community not just the multiplayer. I like a few others think something bigger is going on wether it be campaign stuff, editing stuff, or something completely out of left field that will blow us away.

sigh, which is why they'll apply the new rule for all publishers to do so for their existing and forthcoming games.

This is as stupid as saying "Epic only made UE3.5 for Gears of War 2." No, they made it for all publishers, but they're starting/showcasing it with Gears of War 2, just like MS will start/showcase bigger achievements with Halo 3.

They already made an exception for The Orange Box.

Here's my take on the whole Mythic SKU I posted a few days back:

EazyB said:
I'm all for a MP only disc as long it simple acts as a Halo 3 disc with the campaign levels excluded. This would be a little weird as I think making the disc have only the MP achievements would make it act as a separate game but the SP achievements would but unattainable. The existing Halo 3 disc would also have to allow for any and all the MP achievements on the Mythic disc and what-not. Seems complicated.

I'd rather them just release a disc which would act like Halo 2's map disc, containing all the existing maps and AUs as well as a video or two, and putting it in the 360 would copy the data onto its HDD. This was great for LANs and makes everything more simple.

Not everyone has xbox live

This is a key point, right here. Many, many Halo 3 maps have been released, even though a large percentage of Xbox 360 owners still aren't online with their console. I know that sounds crazy... but remember there's millions of Americans still on dial-up. Go figure.

So, it stands to reason that a new retail SKU might be coming, that adds in all the DLC. Will it happen? I don't know. Is that the explanation for the achievements? I don't know that either.

What I DO know is that games are absolutely, under no circumstances, allowed to offer more than 1250 gamerpoints. Since this list of achievements offers MORE than 1250, it doesn't take goddamn sherlock holmes to significantly narrow down the list of possibilities regarding what the new achievements mean...

EazyB said:

Gamerpoints, gamerpoints, gamerpoints.

Not NUMBER of achievements.

And besides, with Orange Box, they HAD a reason. It's 5 games. With Halo 3, what would their reason be? "Well.... Halo is the biggest game we publish so F you competitors... we're doing this" ??

I think you're being naïve if you think most publishers would really give a shit. It's Microsoft's cricket pitch and they can put whatever rules they want in.

Nope. 50 max for the base game, 10 for DLC. As GDJustin said, that is TOTAL. 10 Achievements for DLC, 250 Gamerscore - for TOTAL DLC. Not per pack.

The only way to do this is if Microsoft changes their DLC guidelines. Possible, but we're getting deeper and deeper into unlikely territory.
