When oes the legendary Map Pack go free? I was sad to miss the double XP weekend, because im cheap and i dont know how long my reinterest on halo will last.

Yeah I saw that, it appears to be some map names based off skulls/achievments?
If i understand it correctly. Nothing terribly juicy.

Nothing explaining this new foundry-esque level from the video.

citadel = colossus ? Don't know why I get that vibe from the name
 
Summation:
-New Achievements for other medals (Splatter spree, sword spree,
extermination, killtacular, etc), but attainable in social and ranked.
-New Skulls, named after the new maps (which apparently are Assembly, Heretic
and Citadel)
-Vidmaster Achievements, some of which yield no gamerscore.

I heard someone in the booth talking about new achievements - this was the 1.2 build with AU2 after all - but I never saw it and just assumed it was rumors/speculation.

I'd love to see new ones, but I'm not getting my hopes up until they are official. Only two weeks until AU2 comes out, anyways.
 
Oh god, more achievements? No fucking thanks, those things have done enough damage to the online experience as it is.

Maybe they want to make Recon unlockable with these new achievements so that all the little kids stop bothering them. :P

Looks like even Wu is pulling the pics from HBO, so I really don't think that Bungie wants them out there.

And it is for this reason that I'm setting my expectations at ZERO.

If the past few weeks have proved anything with the rampant speculation about the two award videos, it's that information without the proper context leads to speculation leads to crushing disappointment.

But like Standoff a single sniper rifle could dominate in the right hands because of the visibility in the spans between bases. I was really glad not to run into it.

As for the grav hammer - I never saw anyone get more than one or two kills with it. That center structure is a grenade magnet, and whoever had it kept getting obliterated by frags.

The layout of the map makes it very unique in that certain gametypes that one would usually detest on other maps look to work great on Purple Reign. The two bases make the map perfect for VIP and judging from the segmented nature of the map, territories and land grab are a must. Lastly, the covenant aesthetics scream for a Covies variant with ghosts galore.

And I would be all for more skulls. Going around in the Halo 3 campaign and finding skulls with a friend or two was PURE fun. New or different (silly) achievements would be fantastic.

"Sandbox Skull"

Holy shit, I'm guessing this is the blue grid map, "Sandbox" a super customizable forge map (a la Foundry, only even better) They all seem like MP achievements too, I'm guessing there are skulls (with no effects?) hidden on the MP maps too somewhere? *shrug* It's all coming together, "Halo: Blue" releasing next month according to Wal-Mart... looks like all the recent rumors may be true.

A strong word of caution:

Microsoft's official guidelines for DLC achievements are:

1) Games may add up to 10 additional Achievements through DLC
2) The additional Achievements may add up to a maximum of 250 Gamerscore

There are way more than 10, and the points add up to way more than 250 Gamerscore.

I wouldn't get too excited if I were you. It's probably a development build with all kinds of stuff in there.

That would be a neat idea to hide skulls on MP maps. But due to the sizes of the maps, that would make it a bit too easy. But then again, finding skulls in campaign isn't that hard.

Maybe a list of all possible achievements? Sifting through all those possible and only picking ones that are worthwhile.

If there's any game that MS would be willing to bend the rules for, it's Halo 3. Plus, Mythic is not neccesarily DLC, right?

Or its two map packs equaling 500 points?
 
Huh...if it is for DLC, maybe Bungie got the ok for more achievements b/c they promote the Legendary map pack (since it seems to be required for a bunch)?

Which basically confirms a new disc. Campaign and MP share files to save space. Getting rid of that, making a new frontend UI and going through the trouble of making MP its own entity seems like a lot of trouble to go through just to demo one map for one weekend when they could have just put it on a Devkit harddrive and popped in any old Halo 3 disc.



That and the Achievements adding up to 700+ makes me a strong believer.
