While I know you were joking, compared to the other PAX attendees, the Halo GAFers looked the least nerdy.

Speaking of which, Eazy, you made my kid super happy with the Spartan/Hog swag trade off. Kudos to you, my friend.
My pleasure, man.

Yeah I got a few whiffs of some unpleasant B O. While hanging around the Bungie booth. I mean geez. I felt like telling some people :

"Hey does your hotel have a shower? USE IT!"

And I agree with Tashi. Midship doesn't need a remake. From what I have seen of the map, Assembly looks like it will do a better job at being the "Midship" of Halo 3 than a Midship remake would. Plus I never really liked Midship to begin with anyway.

I have always thought Urk would smell somewhat... floral.

Think more sandalwood.

But yeah, the gaffers who were kind enough to speak to me were universally kickass dudes. No body odor to speak of. The kind of people I'd share my french toast with, even if I did plan on eating every last succulent forkful.

And for the most part, PAX seemed to be filled up with pretty normal people. Like any gathering of thousands, there was the occasional deviant, but so what, spice of life and all that. Except for whoever it was that farted on us near the Bungie booth. That was uncalled for. People like that should be singled out and strung up in the town square. I mean, come on.

Photo of the kid with the home made armor next to a very weird looking Cortana.

Fun fact: she works at the Starbucks next to the Bungie offices.

That was seriously some of the best french toast I've ever had.

Does anyone here play halo 3 with the wireless network adapter? I may have no choice but to go out and grab one (or make a wireless bridge). Is wireless halo acceptable?

I have 2 wireless network adapters on 2 different 360's and they disconnect all the time

AVOID

Buy one of the original Xbox adapters. They're the exact same thing as the fancy white 360 adapter at half the price.

I've had one of those connected to my original xbox which now runs XBMC for close to 4 years now. My launch 360 has had one since launch and I just bought another one a few months ago for the 360 in my bedroom. Those little black adapters are flawless.

Can someone give me (or link me to) the details on Assembly? I have been out of the loop for a little while. thanks.
Here's a high-quality film of it.

http://gamevideos.1up.com/video/id/21250

the stiq of joy has an article with impressions: http://www.*******.com/2008/08/31/pax-2008-halo-3-assembly-hands-on/

Taking a look at the map layout itself, the best way we can describe its unqiue characteristics is by comparing it to a few other Halo maps even though it was made very clear that Assembly is NOT a remake or inspiration map. To us though, Assembly is a bit like Midship, Ascension and Gridlock combined. It's a circular multi-level Covenant map (Midship) that uses a central multi-tiered focused layout (Warlock) where players call fall off the outer ledge or jump from outer platform to outer platform (Ascension). Collectively speaking, it's a medium sized circular experience with numerous nooks and crannies on the outside, ramps and lifts on the inner rim, a few towers on the sides and a central structure where the action seems to always be focused towards.

After playing a few rounds, we were intrigued by some of the map's "features" including the central most lower part of the map that houses the Gravity Hammer. It's an interesting location because the Hammer is surrounded by four explosive fusion cores and a few times we saw players toss in a grenade or two on an unsuspecting Hammer-whore which only resulted in a severely weakened Hammer-whore. Speaking of Assembly's central location, on the upper most level players will spot active camouflage floating in some sort of super charged light beam. This too is a perfect place to chuck grenades into to rack up a few double (or triple) kills. We also loved the map's outer towers where jumping along the wall and navigating up towards the platforms is encouraged and those who make it up alive will be treated with rockets. Explosively useful rockets at that.

Now you ask, how does it play? Surprisingly enough, Assembly may be our favorite Halo 3 multiplayer map yet. It's a nice mix of close quarters combat, open long range combat and risk versus reward scenarios that you don't see too much in other maps. At times it's chaotic, other times you'll feel like you're stalking your prey and at other times you'll wonder why you can't walk ten feet without being loaded full of BR bullets. Honestly, Assembly is a very well designed map.

And of course, the b.net pics.

lol, hey there's nothing wrong with not wanting midship for Halo 3. Don't you wanna see more original content anyway. Midship just wouldn't be the same in Halo 3 and you know it!!!! I could just pop in Halo 2 and double shot and BXR everyone on Midship all I want.

I've hooked it up wireless through my laptop and it worked pretty fine but I would try everything to go wired

I very much disagree I think that Midship would transfer very well to Halo 3, but whatever I will just find more gifs for your foolishness lol

It depends on whether or not it is "Midship" or a slightly "re-imagined" Midship, which they've been doing with all their remakes.

But I honestly don't think it matters, since we just saw Assembly, which is a small, arena-based Covenant map. I highly doubt that we'll get Midship at this point.

I've had the 360 wireless adapter for over a year and I've had no problems whatsoever. I've never had a disconnect and latency seems to be comparable to when I had a wired connection.

With Assembly, I'm sure we don't need Midship at all. Sure people will always complain but they're not being realistic at all.

I don't know why they just don't build a import tool for all the old maps. Just automate that shit, Bungie. They could bring in some stuff from Unreal Tournament too.

That bikini wearing cortana would be the best if she just painted her skin blue.

and left the hotpants and bikini at home

Thanks for the quick impressions guys, I think i'm going to go grab one. It's either that or I buy a new modem/internet subscription so this would be a much cheaper solution if it works out.

I've been playing on a Wireless adapter since Gears of War came out and I've never had any issues with it, ever.

Some people can have electrical interference with a wireless network. It's not ideal for gaming for everyone, I for one am a cable purist when it comes to gaming. But I'd imagine for plenty of people it's not going to cause any issues for concern.

A staff infection? Does he have staves coming out his orifices?

You should ask him if that's a new variation of Staph infections.

Hmm. I've been a Staff Captain for ages now. Maybe that's because I'm infected with staff.

Also: Midship = so not happening. With Assembly you have a round, symmetrical arena-style map with a Covenant theme. It's bigger and plays entirely differently, but it fills a similar role. And plugs a nice gap in the existing map set, to boot.

Yea u have a point I guess I was thinking a straight port would play well but u are right that hasn't really been Bungies style so who knows how a re-imagining would play.

Edit: Would you heretics please quit killing my Midship dreams LOL.

The old "I have *insert disease name here* and I'm dying from it" card, eh? Come on, that's just being desperate...
I have a chronic disease, but im not dying from it. What do you think my chances of recon are?

I was playing with Numbers on Sunday night and was telling him how sick to the back teeth I am with the Recon situation. The bottom feeders of the Halo community come out in full force for some petty armour for their character online. It's absolutely pathetic.

Needless to say, in the next game, Numbers told everyone in the lobby I have it, so we both proceeded to get numbskulls messaging us during the game.

Depends. Is this chronic disease anything like Snoop Dogg's affliction?

Recon started out as a nice gesture towards the most dedicated Halo fans, but its really brought out the worst from a selection of the community. The fact that people are losing their accounts because they have Recon is pretty horrifying in the internet/video game kind of way.

i dont know if this is a joke or not but my knowledge on snoop dogg is like zero so it doesnt compute, now radiohead on the other hand...

Hey, where's Dax.

Dax, all joking aside, your name was actually brought up at PAX. Dmiller asked about you, whether or not you were there. He'd been meeting GAF guys all day and I think he wanted to meet you. I told him I didn't think you were there. Just figured you'd want to know.

We got Zanzibar and Lockout, why not Midship? Assembly doesn't seem to have much in common with Midship other than the fact that it's a round arena-style map and it's purple.

Agreed. Assembly is in no way like Midship except that it also contains the color purple.

That's not completely true. It's larger than Midship, but is symmetrical on one axis similar to Midship. It also has a similar "bowl" sort of design to it.

I think of it as the lovechild of Midship and Derelict.

Edit: Before people start taking me out of context, I'm not saying that Assembly is considered a spiritual successor to Midship. It's an original map. However it feels somewhat like a hybrid of those two maps, with some wholly unique attributes that are all its own.

Yeah, I am really looking forward to flag matches on Assembly.

Blueblur1 said:
Assembly is really fun. The FFA matches were ridiculously hectic but there is enough cover and excellent sight lines that I really didn't care.

If Derelict (or Desolation) mated with Midship it would give birth to Assembly.

Quoting Blueblur1 now eh Shishka?

But yeah, I agree that this map is it's own thing, with elements and color schemes borrowed. But unique in it's own special way. I like to think of it as the free for all lover's ambush map of choice. :D

I've got to be honest, I think I may like this map more than midship, though its way too early to say. I think the edge midship has at this point being plasma grenade starts over the frag grenade starts on assembly. I just look at assembly and felt that its slightly larger size would handle a 2flag match better than midship would (especially now that we don't have touch return).

I think my favorite part of assembly where the walkway around the bottom of the bowl. I imagine epic flag caps where u are bobing and weaving along the paths with no shields.

I can see your point, but I think most people are just looking at the art style of the map and thinking of Midship. And yes it does share some similarities, but I prefer to think that Assembly plays very uniquely and it should be given some credit for being a completely new map. Also, if I HAD to say that there was a map that inspired Assembly, it would be Derelict.
