Yeah, after reading the first one, I got the feel that they were going to be more peripheral than supplemental. It would have been really cool to get a novel wedged between Halo 2 and Halo 3, starting with the death of Tartarus and ending with the Master Chief falling to Earth.Cocopjojo said:I have a feeling they're not going to answer any of those.
Have you read the story told in the Terminals or Staten's Contact Harvest yet? I'd say those corner the market on perfect examples of awesome Halo fiction, so when I do sit down and reading Uprising #3, I hope you've properly set my expectations.BenjaminBirdie said:It's one of the best pieces of Halo fiction I've read. I kind of love it.

2nd map is Rat's Nest...Cuckooo said:same map in both vids!!
I don't think either is really a created level. Both look somewhat Forged, if you know what I mean. Here's my take copied from Ascendant Justice:Kibbles said:[edit] Doh, you mean the end of the EDGE video eh? I hope it's just more of the created level in the G4 video then... not just portions of a new map![]()
Keep in mind that the above is just a best guess based on the limited amount of information we have in those videos. Not a lot to go on and I would be completely happy with just another pack of three cool maps, but, I feel like we're going to get something just a bit a bit bigger...I'm definitely open to criticism on this, but I think (ignoring the campaign characters on Rat's Nest - which I have no answer to), the item at the end of the video appears to be from one of the new Halo maps. We can probably say with some certainty that the two most likely maps to appear in the Mythic Map Pack (I think that's what they'll be calling it based on comments at ComicCon) are Purple Reign, a symmetrical Covenant-centric map, and Spacecamp/Moonbase Alpha, a UNSC space platform - neither of which are featured here.

Large version here.
If this is the third map, then it is likely that they're continuing the trend of Foundry-esque maps which are created around the concept of Forge. Bungie took a bit of grief for certain things in Foundry - not because it wasn't a good concept for a map, but because a lot of people thought that it didn't go far enough. I think what we're seeing here in this massive blue grid is an infrastructure which acts as a platform for object placement. While it'll likely come with its own default layout, the map can be reverted back to its primal state - a complete stage of blue grids in a black and blank space.
This could mean a few things:Obviously the amount of control is huge here. Although in this video, we see what appears to be a human hovel like structure (two or three floor pieces with a box-like room structure), covering multiple squares in the grid, what we have seen in the G4 video appears to display Forerunner assets in what is presumably the same map. I guess I'm curious if we're going to get any naturally occurring geometry, like something we'd find on the ground outside (snow, grass, sand, etc), trees or large rocks. It's possible, being that these items will take up a variety of sizes and shapes - hell, there could even be one which is a hill, taking up a dozen or so squares.
- It likely means that we will be able to place objects which act as the ground, probably from a diverse amount of them.
- Secondly, there are probably a handful of preset skyboxes which can be loaded like the filters are currently, by the placement of spheres. The skybox, of course, would have its own dynamic lighting system attached just as it does in any level.
- The map will require a rim around (probably similar in color and shape to the floor/ground textures) the side to prevent players from leaving it and it would already have pre-installed collision barriers as we get on all maps.
Something Dirtbag mentioned to me tonight made even more sense. If Bungie were to release this sort of map for Halo 3, the volume of Forge maps available will be mind-numbing. After sifting through the unsuccessful maps, a few chosen periodically might appear in a Forge hopper. Customized content on existing maps and on this map which will have seemingly limitless options could appear in this new hopper. Within the framework of Halo, I honest believe that this is the best possible explanation for that last shot of Luke in that video.
What do you guys think?
This is how Bungie has always been, from day 1. I don't see it changing any time soon.LAUGHTREY said:Is anyone else tired of the constant Bungie teasing? Sometimes I just wanna get some release and go to bed, not stay up all night getting denied and tortured.

Though, Luke has overseen a lot more teasing in audio/visual form, which makes for a fun change of pace. He's also just let things drop on us unexecpectedly, too.
Look at it this way - the are showing new stuff at PAX. So at the worst we've got less than two more weeks to endure.
Where's a cryosleep chamber when I need one?

LAUGHTREY said:There has been more of a trend toward random teasing rather then the classic interpretation that we used to get. There isn't really much to think about or analyze. Some people would be able to guess exactly what was going to happen via sly comments but still unclear gestures. I remember when everyone thought the mysterious X button was going to be a dash move or some kinda crazy jump kick when they said the CGI trailer showed what it did. It was pretty obvious to some people that the function was the equipment, but the fact that they were so vague still let other people guess some fantastical stuff.
The edge video is just so out there, It could be a zillion different things.

I actually have a harder time sniping people who are standing still. I have become used to people moving around and me moving my sniper accordingly, but when they are standing still, I have to perfect my shot exaclty on their head in order to kill them otherwise the game does not give me the kill.MIMIC said:I think it's pretty ridiculous how awful I am with the sniper. 100% of my no scope kills are "go for broke" luck :lol I'll be the one missing head shots of guys who are standing completely still. I'll also be the one with the out of no where super snipe (Team Snipers on Last Resort) and snipe someone in the very first second of the game. And I'll be the one with the occasional snipe triple kill (I lucked upon a spawn trap on Vahalla once :lol)
But for the most part, I suck. I think it's because I don't train the reticule on my targets. I just jerk the analog stick, shoot, and hope for the best.
But a little bird told me that if your headshot:sniper kill ratio is above 30% then you're not that bad. I'm right on the edge with 37%![]()

In some ways, yeah. In general the hints lately have had more substance to them than before. Frank used to drive me absolutely insane with some of his updates, where even the most basic of information was wrapped in a cloak of mystery. The A part of the Q&A's have been much more specific lately, with some actual information and some bombshells (like confirming AU2 was coming).LAUGHTREY said:There has been more of a trend toward random teasing rather then the classic interpretation that we used to get. I think it's just that we're used to being teased about one thing at a time: Bungie's next game (and later, Halo 3 itself). Now we are wondering about new maps, nebulous Halo 3 MP "content" from the video, AU2, Bungie's next game (with the Superintendent guy), and the two other projects they have going. Whereas before we used to be teased with a shake of the hips and a bit of leg, Bungie's got a full-on lap dance gyrating in front of us. It's a lot more tantalizing.

EazyB said:Snipers on Standoff is the only sniping match I actually like seeing pop up. I love it because positioning and coordination play a huge role in it. If you don't communicate and work as a team someone from the other side is going to sneak around and get on top of your base. If they manage to do this then you deserve it. They'll be rewarded handsomely if their other teammates have the other side covered because getting them out with fire coming from both sides is a bitch.
Yes, you'll get a few bad spawns but you'll be able to find cover if you're quick enough about it. That is unless they've got a guy in the back of your base, in which case you'll probably be killed a few times, abut then again, you had it coming when you let him back there.
swander said:There's hardly any cover around the back, which is where you spawn eight times out of ten. Spawn, die, spawn, die.
I was referring to one small slice of Bungie's community endeavors. I'm actually quite fond of that Frank chap's work on the Updates because, teasing or no, they were always fun to read.OuterWorldVoice said:Your lips say no, but your wallet says yes.
