Here's a thought: the rumor of that "Halo Blue" SKU is that it ships in September. Assume for a second that it's a Halo 3 SKU with the multiplayer maps bundled in (ala the Gears of War re-release) at a budget price.

When the Halo 2 Map Pack shipped to retail, the download maps were released on the same day, July 5th. It could be possible that 1) September is when the next Map Pack somes out (the first two have been announced about a month in advance, and we're only two months out from the end of September), and 2) the next map pack will be the last one. Otherwise, the SKU would have an incomplete set of maps included.

I realize I'm heaping speculation upon speculation, but I thought it was worth tossing out.

This was pretty much what I was assuming as well. It might be possible we'll get one or two more maps much later (similar to Halo 2), but I'm expecting the next pack to be more or less the last one for a variety of reasons. I didn't think about it being the main game with the maps bundled in though. I never got the Halo 2 MP, I thought it was a stand-alone disc with just the maps you installed, was it it the full deal?

Yeah, 99% of them are chain messages to get recon anyway. Once in a while I'll have someone just send me a pic of something they seem to be particularly proud of, like one guy who took pics of sniping through walls. One guy started recommending files to us, and when we looked they were stuff in our own file shares, I'm not sure if it was pre-game psychological warfare or what :lol
It's to get you to bail out of the game you're about to play. While sitting in the pre-game lobby, these tards will spam picture messages to the opposing players. Anyone who goes to view that pic will be booted out of the lobby, and the tards now have numbers.

Edit: It's the equivalent of "HAY PRES ALT-F4 4 CHEETZ"

That seems to be a new thing, I've never had that happen. Usually when I get pics it's not before or during a game, it's just random from the guy usually later. Usually it seems like people just send pics to people on their recently played. That HBO quote up above that's the first I've heard of it.

It would be bullshit for them to release a new SKU with all map packs at a budget price and then still charge me 800 points for the next pack.

Hmm yeah... freezing your Xbox would be new, but it seems you still have to open the message, which I'm pretty sure boots you out anyways.

Nah, you can view pics in pre-game lobbies without it booting you, I was viewing pics in fileshares last night while games were loading. I'll definitely make a point of not doing that pre-game now though.

Nope, the Halo 2 Map Pack was just that, the maps, a making-of vidoc and a cinematic short. It was $20. (And sold well over 600k copies, from the NPD that leaked regularly back in the day.)

So, I've posted this on Bungie.Net, I may as well post it here, as well.

We know people have some inappropriate screenshots in their file shares, including at least one that is freezing up people's boxes when they look at the shot.

If you come across any of this in your gallavanting, please do not hesitate to send me a private message. Include their gamertag, of course. Please do NOT keep a list in this thread or in the forums at all.

You can pm me either here or Bungie.net, whichever suits you best.

Thanks.

Nitpicking at HBO.

Could be the battle at harvest. After a few years, I'd imagine they'd make some propaganda. It's not like the very first pelicans showed up with an elite skull painted on them. And it's just a easter egg after all.

I had a broken spawn in Griffball yesterday, it was pretty neat going back into theater and looking around and seeing teleporters and plasma grenades laying outside the boundaries.

To stay somewhat on the current topic, I just ignore pictures I get all the time, since most are just "Recommend this to 50 people for recon!1!!".

Nitpicking indeed. But then again, I expect many Halo fanboys to jump on Halo Wars for even the most minute difference. Can't wait for the game though, looks insanely fun.

Uh, wow. It's just the crewmen decorating their vehicles with emblems/markings, people have been doing it since at least the First World War. Person complaining is really reaching.

That was me complaining. As an easter egg, maybe, I could buy it. (That hadn't occurred to me when I looked at the picture.) As a vehicle decoration, it bugs me - because it's completely outside the Halo universe; it breaks the fourth wall for me.

Whatever. It's a news post. One of ::checks:: almost 23 and a half thousand in the past 9 years. Some of them are big, some are little. Sorry this one doesn't please.

Bear in mind that anything from HBO is going to be from a very hardcore perspective. And the nitpick is partly that the Legendary emblem might be an anachronism (if it's really early in the conflict), and that the emblem isn't used in-game - it's a menu icon. (At least, not that I'm aware of.) It would be like seeing multiplayer medals used in-game.

I've had a lot of nitpicks with the Halo Wars materials shown so far, but for the most part I'm keeping that stuff to myself. It's a different game from a different team, and I think there's going to be plenty of good to come from a different perspective on the Halo universe. But there's going to be lots of differences that I don't like as well, but hey. That comes with the territory of swapping a franchise between developers. The worst that could happen is Ensemble knows just enough about Halo to reference all the recognizable elements of the series - Grunts, Pelicans, Elites - while not picking up on the more subtle design elements that make Halo, well, Halo. They nod and wink in a way that breaks the immersion, yelling "look it's Halo" while missing the real nuance that Bungie instilled in the universe. The emblem could be a sign there's some of that there.

But for now, it's still a nitpick. And I'm increasingly optimistic about Halo Wars, after being very skeptical for the past year.

Edit: beaten by the man himself.

It bothers me too, but I gave up hope that they would be sticking super close to the fiction when I saw Prophets scooting around on the battlefield opposite giant Spartany mechs.

Is the IRC still alive? I tried joining, but it says I'm the only one in the room. :(

Kickass avatar.

Such an awesome trailer.

What about the super sweet 720 double backflip the spartans do when boarding the wraiths?

PS: I really don't care if they stick close to the fiction as long as they make it look badass.

If soldiers can paint Mickey Mouse onto the sides of their Flying Fortresses, they're more than up for something like this.

And you tell me this now?!?!?!?! I got a screenshot yesterday that froze both my 360 and Xeno's, but I deleted it. FUCK!

What about a screenshot would cause your system to freeze? That's bizarre.
Edited file that messes up while trying to load? I would imagne it's possible with those silly datel hdd readers that came out shortly after the 360 launch.

The problem with Halo Wars is that there have been continuity issues from day one. Some minor (like the legendary emblem, name of the ship), some not so minor (Battle Rifles, Scarabs and Elites show up a lot when they really shouldn't).

If Bungie was doing Halo Wars I wouldn't even take these rumors about the Flood being on Harvest serious for a second. I would even cut Ensemble some slack if it weren't for their previous disregard of Halo canon.

The game is set thirty years before Halo during the first Harvest campaign, yet there are fully armored Spartan II's equipped with shield generators which weren't introduced until much later. There are Scarabs which according to Conversations would only be used when the Covenant finally tracks down Earth or other remainung Inner Colonies. It's a prestigious weapon. They could just glass the damn planet. Why would they need a Scarab to stomp through Earth's streets. It's a sign of victory, a psychological weapon. They want to instill fear by sending these giant spider tanks down.

It may be hard to do justice to the Halo Universe in a C&C esque RTS game but nobody forced them to take that approach. You don't build tanks on the battlefield and neither do you recruit nor train soldiers on the battlefield. You don't collect resources either in order to win a battle in this day in age, not to mention 500 years in the future.

Why didn't they take the Total War approach for true large scale warfare or the Myth approach for very intense smaller scale battles?

It would have been much easier to design a Halo RTS like that. Instead of forcing base building, resource collecting and uber units into the game and the storyline.

I think it's right to complain even about the smaller stuff. Ensemble took out the Battle Rifles after we complained about it. Maybe we can help to make this game more faithful to Halo canon (whatever that is).

EDIT:

By the way I think both the announcement trailer and the 5 years trailer were outsourced to Blur studios. Maybe that would explain it. I doubt either of those cinematics will show up in the game when it ships.

The BR was in Contact Harvest.

The Vimeo staff has decided that we are no longer going to allow gaming videos on Vimeo. Specifically, we are no longer going to allow game walk-throughs, game strategy videos, depictions of player vs player battles, raids, fraps, or any other video gaming videos that simply depict individuals playing a video game. Videos falling into this category will be subject to deletion as of September 1st; new videos of this type will be removed.

Well. Any ideas? Host number two bites the dust.

Sure but was it mass produced at that point? Everyone had one in the announcement trailer and they subsequently took them out of the game as default weapons. They were replaced by M5 rifles which makes much more sense.

Elites and Scarabs existed at that point too but there is no reason why they should appear in such numbers. I think the very first time the UNSC encountered Elites in combat was during the Fall of Reach. A few weeks before the events of Halo.

I know that Halo without Elites just doesn't seem right but they should use them sparsely not in such numbers. They are commanders not infantry.

GameTrailers.com? The last time you tested uploading someone's video on there, it worked fine.

Takes forever. With Vuze, I could queue up all the videos and it would auto upload via the torrent client. Vimeo, I had to manually upload each one and the conversion process was much longer (often an hour or more). Gametrailers was by far the lengthiest wait and the most difficult to use.

Youtube? I know that isn't HD, but it's better than nothing.

Urk, why don't you give me a link where I can download a video, and I'll see how long it takes me to put it up on Youtube.

You can download any of the videos that are up on Vimeo right now. But the problem isn't with one file. Download ten and see how long it takes you to get them up. Then double it to account for the time I spend downloading to my 360, playing it back, editing, and encoding.

:(

edit: That comes off a bit bitchy. I don't mean it that way. It's just not feasible for me to spend hours at a time uploading videos.

Well, I can take the time to upload them if you do the editing and shit.

Also, how do you download a video from vimeo?

You can download by scrolling to the bottom. On the right side, there is a link to download a WMV version of the file.
