Alright, so I'm officially back on Halo 3. :D :D

It truly is the game that keeps on giving. Played ~8 rounds of ranked BTB tonight. It started off a little spotty, but then I got hooked up with a party that was pretty good and won the final 5 straight.

- It was my first time playing Rat's Nest and Standoff.
- The final gametype was Sandtrap Slayer with the "Covie" vehicle set. It's crazy how the personality of a map can change just by what vehicles and/or weapons are on it.
- I earned 14 wheelman medals in ONE round - Slayer on Valhalla.
- Ranked BTB didn't even exist the last time I had played Halo 3, so I was able to get from rank 1 to rank ~5ish.

I could go on at length (and might, later on) about how games like CoD4 and Gears provide superior visceral thrills, but in terms of being an overall package, Halo 3 can't be beat. I've played over FIVE HUNDRED rounds of multiplayer, and there's still entire gametypes I've barely explored, maps I don't have memorized, etc.
 
Well, this sucked.

2 against 7 for a good round and a half, and the other guy on my team just stood idle the last round. I was pinned down for most of it, but eventually spawned in an area where I could roam around and get behind them. Pretty fun to finish off with a little plasma fest on some snipers who were too busy trying to kill the idle guy.

Seems like everyone missed my point completely which is okay since it's all the regulars. Use some sense people... Not everyone has a friend's list that is brimming with people waiting to play with you in matchmaking. Deciding to play a few random games shouldn't be a pain because you're not part of party.

My original point: Last Resort or Valhalla are more strategic and less skill oriented than some of the smaller maps due to their size.

I get what you're saying, and I agree. A Mercenary TS playlist like the one in COD4 would be a nice addition for people who don't have parties to play with.

I just know that getting Trasher on for this tourney is going to be a nightmare. :lol
 
We don't need a mercenary playlist. Except for RBTB, ranked matchmaking won't put a team of randoms against a team of 4. Teams of 3 or 4 only play teams of 3 or 4. Randoms only play randoms or parties of 2.
 
I've been matched up plenty of times in MLG against 4 guys in 2 parties and my entire party is random, and they usually kick our ass. :lol

I mean for the most part it does a good job, I don't see what that option would hurt though. I bet it could hold a higher population than Head2Head. :lol :P

And that's why Halo is...well, Halo. <3 It can be a blast alone, but get a few friends who will actually coordinate together as a reliable team and it's unbeatable.
 
Woot, finally got my Xbox back from repairs! Interestingly, I got the same Xbox back, but with a hard drive attached (I took mine off before sending it in, as I was certain you are supposed to), and with a new (apparently quieter BenQ) drive inside. No idea what's on the spare hard drive (probably empty), I don't really dare try it out. :) The only thing I wasn't too pleased about was that it came back with quite a few marks on it, it didn't look like it had been handled too well...

Anyway, I downloaded Cold Storage, and... wow, is it beautiful! I'll have to get some games in later, it looks like a fun map for 2v2 and 4v4.
 
Just got to play some Team Slayer on Cold Storage. Pretty fun, my brother and I were controlling the upstairs part of the map and it really helped. 20 Mil on the count to go. Anywho back to the beach!

And Warthog Inc. being Rats nest was never clear cut, but its safe to assume since theres 4 hogs on that map.

Cyberdyne became The Pit, and Warthog Inc was cut before the game came out so all the maps from the hex code are accounted for. I wonder why Warthog Inc was cut, I can't imagine that it was that bad.

Yeah, I learned this the hard way...with my foot in my mouth.

I've always thought that Cyberdyne was a reference to the Terminator franchise...could be wrong.

It must have been for some other reason because Halo 3 has Isolation and Last Resort.

Swat 2 Flag on Snowbound is surprisingly good. I've gotten it a few times, and the last time turned into an epic 1-0 war against a team that was obviously better than us. We scored with 1 minute left, and proceeded to play defense (and sent one dude out to take their flag and be a general nuisance). Epic.

Immediately after, we got matched up with the same guys, and proceeded to lose slayer construct 30-50. lol

He had it coming. Everytime I saw him, he was trolling in a not so stealthy manner. It's just sad that his ban wasn't for trolling, but for idiocy.

Yeah, I have played it once, and it was pretty fun for me as well.

I've thought Snowbound should be used more for objectives (bomb and flag).

Where are the flag locations?

What playlist?

I would love to play that game. I really like Snowbound as a map. I don't really get the hate. It's all about map control. ;)

It doesn't sound like a great game on paper, but it adds something to the playlist. The more variety in Team Objectives, the better.

Probably for gameplay balance more so than anything else. Or perhaps they don't have generators with enough power for both shields and engines?
 
Up to 43 in Lone Wolves...Maybe Brigadier is coming tonight or tomorrow. If I'm lucky. What's this weekend's Double EXP list? Anyone messed around with Cold Storage in Forge at all? Was thinking of messing around to see what I can do.

Not a lot you can do in Cold Storage for Forge.

Use Theater Cam to get into the "Flood Room" and I've seen others get into the tube and beneath the map.

Hopefully we hear more about Purple Reign soon. >:|

Ranked by any chance? I sadly still need a few achievements.

Also, lately I've been doing extremely well on Epitaph. It's really one of the maps that I've played the least, but I seem to be doing well on it, especially in Lone Wolves.

Fiesta! Yay! I still have a clip of my killing seven players in a row with the Needler on Snowbound from the last one. Infinite needles FTW!

Its probably just a shitty connecton.

Every now and then when I'm downloading a torrent and downloading some porn. And my sister or brother are doing stuff on their computers Halo will give me host when obviously I shouldn't have host. Everyone will be black screen and or weak conneciton and I get to run around killing them.

Now did I cheat, did I standby? Sortof, but I didn't intend to. And I don't play another game til I'm done havin a shit connection.

Halo just has trouble deciding who should be host sometimes. It should have been someone else being host and I would have been red bar and been getting killed a lot til I quit or lagged out or lost.
 
@Bungie: if there will be another patch for halo 3, please fix the voices in the german version. they are way too silent (in-game).
 
All right, I'm about 10 months behind on this, but what's the best way to win a Sword duel outside of grenades? I always mash my B button after a collision but the other person beats me at least 80% of the time. I just never really had an issue with it because Swords rarely appeared in Matchmaking but it's appearing quite a bit for me all of the sudden, and I'm grinding to 45 for my Brigadier. So, what's the word on it?

Sounds like they are B'ing from the start and maybe you start with R then mash B? Either way B doesn't have lunge try backing up after a clash and they will B and miss then you R for a lunge kill while they are still stuck in swing animation. Gets the people who think they are good at swords everytime. And try jumping downwards from heights and surprising them...stand up on little invisiledges and ninja the shit out of them. Oh and plasma grenade should be your WoD at the end of any game.

Never use the lunge attack as your opening move unless it's a guaranteed kill. Stick to the melee button and keep your reticule on target.

Can not wait to get back to the house to give FFA a shot. I really liked it last week on cold storage, but I can't wait to try it on Blackout. I'm all giggly inside.
