Not so. I tried to hit 20 in Lone Wolves, after being told I would fly up the ranks. I maxed out at 16. Like hitting a wall. Put me in a Ghost in a target-dense environment, and I can smash guys. Ask me to shoot straight, and, well, it doesn't go so well.

FFA is totally different from team games - you never have anyone watching your back. (I hit a wall at around 16 in LW, as well - but decided to push through it. I'm now at another wall at 27. :D )

I've only ever played 2 games of Team Doubles - I bet you and I could shoot over 20 in a couple of nights. Any interest?

Haha, to those I played with tonight, thanks for putting up with me, ya'll rock.. god I missed this game.

I call shenanigans on half the things that happened on that map with you :lol

But it could just be my horrible 1.5 Mbs internet connection (Thank you Bellsouth for nothing)... God, can't wait till I switch to Comcast. Full on 6.0 Mbs :D

The standard is a bit higher in Doubles than LW. But Brainboy and I play it only once every few months when our schedules align and we are on the cusp of 40 (we probably haven't played many more than 60-70 games of it) so I would say it is easily doable.

According to my stats here, I've played 94 games of Doubles, winning 76 of them, and I'm a level 37. So level 40 is definitely within our grasp.

I definitely think Ghaleon can reach level 20 in either Lone Wolves, Team Slayer or Team Doubles. It's all about perseverance and maybe a little luck. I know I was a little bit lucky in reaching level 40 in Lone Wolves, and I know Shake was a big factor in my level 37 in Doubles. So I guess I would advise looking for a good Doubles partner, at least if that's something you would enjoy (personally, 2v2 games are amongst my favourite games).

At low levels, the standard is higher?

I know that going in to a TD game with a 40 would spell certain death for me; I certainly can't speak for Ghaleon. My choice of lists was simple - if we're both at the same (very low) level, we'll likely rise to a level that is more closely reflective of our skill. (I'd say that's over 20 for both of us.)

It would be easier still with a group of four, in TS or something - but finding folks in the 1-10 rank range in TS is HARD. :) (I'm there, because I rarely play that list - most of my friends are 30s and 40s, and it's absolutely no fun joining them, for any of us. Finding two others, though... :D )

Never occured to me just how much more I played Halo 2. I was never hooked in the same way. Mostly because it is, really, more of the same.

H2: 1944 games
H3: 223 games

Still I see myself playing more H3 in the future in small bursts

Halo 2
Total Sacrifice
Total Games: 11618

Halo 3
Total Games: 3,099

That's not counting the games I have under...

Cold Biohazard, Miami Sol, Miami Hostile, The Double Shot, Enemus69, Invisible Devil, and Technyte. (I think I'm missing one).

My real total for H2 games is over 16k.

Woooooooow. If you average 5 min/game (prob not even accurate), that comes out to 968 hours (40.3 continuous days of nonstop halo 2!). Brilliant! :D

With regards to Team Doubles, me and my friend are 23 games unbeaten on the playlist. But the ranking up is painfully slow.

Looking at Halo3 Junk (not fully updated), it says I've played 36 games and won 32 of those, but I'm only level 17! My friend is even lower, and he has never lost a game. I remember levelling up a hell of a lot quicker in LW and TS.

Take pride in being one of the 4 people in the world who still plays Doubles legitimately.

I really really miss the custom game scene. I mean, really really do. It used to be so alive in H2 and I can remember those 3 day battles where you'd quit at one day and return another and see how its completly changed. I don't seem to see any of that for H3 despite the better selection of gametypes and options.

Halo 2: 582
Halo 3: 555

And Ghaleon, if you can't get to lv. 20, the problem is that you don't want it enough. Sally, you just need to butch the hell up. If you want something in life, you've got to go out there and get it. I've played with you a few times before, and while I don't think we'll ever see a birdie icon next to your name, you're sure as hell not just a level 16. You need to figure out which playlist you want it in. Since LW isn't your thing, I'd recommend Team Slayer, but if you're frustrated by dumbass teammates, you need to find a Doubles partner. You need to devote most of your time to this playlist, not play it in between social BTB games. You need to sack up, and show some work ethic before you have any right to moan about not being lv. 20.

During the last two nights, the Ascendant Justice guys have been playing tons of customs. It almost feels identical to Halo 2. It's gotten to the point where we have too many people for a party and the question of dividing up raises its ugly head. I've got a feeling we're going to be forced to do that at some point, if we want to give some of the smaller maps love. Thankfully, swapping back and forth amongst the harrows of Valhalla, Avalanche, Rat's Nest, Standoff and Last Resort for matches remains incredibly enjoyable. I guess Halo 2 was similar, in a way, except we were doing it with 4v4 squads on Midship, Lockout, Sanctuary and Zanzibar.

Lamonster, I would have invited you last night but by the time we were finished with that match, you were already involved in a GAF party.

That's cool man, no worries. I eventually found a 7 person maxed-out party of Gaffers to eat Icy Treats with.

It was more an observation than a venting of desire. I find it kind of funny, nothing more.

Every now and then, I try something different to break up BTB. I may continue to dabble in LW here and there.

You misunderstand. That was not an urging post, it was a motivating speech! What's supposed to be happening now is that the fear is washed from you, and you start screaming and jumping up and down about how you can do it. I give you a pat on the butt, and send you into matchmaking...

In all seriousness, the point is that I'm probably about as good as you, and I got my 20 with no problem, and I don't play the game obsessively. I think if you devote a bit of time to one playlist, you'll get it with no problem. You should stop playing LW though, it's no good.

Do some Team Objective. I can help to 20 in there.

So, I wanted to look deeper at my matchmaking playtime. 59% of my games are in BTB (either ranked or unranked), actually less than I expected.

But this is just criminal:

Code:
Playlist Game Type Games % Of Games

Big Team Social Big Team Slayer 36 63.2%
Big Team Social VIP 11 19.3%
Big Team Social Territories 10 17.5%

Ranked Big Team Big Team Slayer 20 71.4%
Ranked Big Team 1 Flag CTF 6 21.4%
Ranked Big Team One Bomb 2 7.1%

85 BTB games on Last Resort, and only six were CTF and two were Assault. And neither have ever shown up in Social. Since it's the only one sided BTB map, I really wish those were wighted more heavily.

Last Resort is such a bad slayer map it makes my head hurt. The fact that Last Resort is in the Team Slayer (4v4, for gods' sakes) hopper makes my head explode.

Last Resort is such a bad map overall, it needs to be removed from all hoppers. Hell, I think I would even prefer Isolation over Last Resort.

I was actually just thinking this. A well coordinated team of four in Team Objective would easily ramp up to 20.

I'm totally down, I think I'm still like level 7 in team objective.

It would be a thing of beauty, Ghal. Me and old man Halo (<3 Wu) will bring you honor in the face of adversity!! Or something!!

edit: Last Resort is an awesome map for asymmetrical objective games. Territories on LR is fantastic.

Last Resort: great for one-sided objective games. Nothing else.

no no no no.

Did you not play Zanzibar in Halo 2 and love it??

anyway, why do I never get Construct and Epitaph when I play matchmaking? I never get to play those maps :(

also, which map did Warthog, Inc. turn out to be?

Maybe some shield doors would fix it.

The Pit.

QFMFT.

It's especially bad when a team of randoms is put up against a team that plays together. That map can be dominated with teamwork, it makes some matches unfair.

(While I won't disagree that Zanzibar isn't the best choice for a slayer map)
Why shouldn't a team that plays together have an advantage over randoms that don't play together? I'd hate to play a team based game where teamwork isn't rewarded.

kylej said:
You sure about that? I don't think that's ever been confirmed...

I know The Pit was codenamed Cyberdyne, and later Gym Class, but I never thought it was Warthog Inc.

So basically BTB is lacking in potential. I've known dis for awhile now.

Is it me, or did terrotories in the beta seem to be p fun....now however....

Agreed, any map that encourages teamwork is fundamentally broken.

In all seriousness, get Last Resort out of TS

BTB has potential. It just needs less VIP, Covies, Territories, and Slayer replaced by more CTF, Heavies, and Valhalla.

Also, a rule of thumb. Everything in the beta seems more fun because people were simply happy to be playing Halo early, weren't worried about ranks, and nostalgia makes everything splendid.

I thought Cyberdyne was one of the Forerunner maps? Construct maybe?

Yeah, it sucks when total strangers that can't work together are beaten by teams that can.

Not sure, I just know that's what most people seem to be going with.

Oh it has lots of potential. Unfortunately we're stuck with garbage like Covies and VIP.

That's backwards reasoning. By definition, a team that uses teamwork is going to play better than one that doesn't. That will be the case on any map. It's a good reason to party up, but in reality half the time I end up on a side where most of the team is a party, and half the time I'm with randoms going it alone. It evens out.

Even better are those times when a group of randoms beats a high-ranking party. I've been one of those randoms more than a few times. Oh the smack in the post-game lobby. It was delicious beyond words.

Dax01 said:
Zanzibar sucked. Last Resort is better, but still sucks.
It excels at what's it was made for: one-sided objective games. CTF and Assault rock on it. Hard. I've warmed to Slayer now that I just run for the Needler every game, but I'd still rather do CTF any time.

kylej said:

It hurts my internet heart considering I played BTB almost exclusively in H2. Oh how the mighty have fallen : (

Stupid comments aside, the map is indeed too big for its own good. And the "starting" spawns, sigh, the team that spawns by the bubble shield gets owned by the sniper.

We have
-2 Snipers
-2 Shotguns
-1 laser

I think there should be Rockets on the map, maybe inside the base?

A team using teamwork?!?!?! That's... unthinkable!
