Yeah, Snowbound is a great example of a map with wasted space. All of the good weapons are underground, or right next to the shield doors, so other than grabbing overshield, there's really no reason to go up top. I can't remember the last time I had fun on Snowbound. It's either camping in the tunnels, or fighting campers. Ugh. And Snowbound HC sucks too.

tdg knows.

Down with shield doors, up with interesting lines of sight!

The vast majority of my kills on Blackout are near the BR spawn on the opposing tower to the snipe spawn, and the snipe spawn. Does that mean that the map is broken because I don't get nearly as many kills/deaths in the middle, or near the red lift? No.

You use all the tiers of those maps though, the bottom tier having an excellent line of sight right to the other end of the map, and the top having an overview of all the areas of the map.

On Blackout you don't have people constantly rushing in to one small area of the map like idiots blindly shooting their ARs at the nearest movement they see.

Last night was a blast, guys. The Standoff game was really fun, since we were all driving around Brute Shot jumping.

Not really. They just lead to frustrating and awkward situations.
Yes really. They lead to some quite hilarious moments and they make you rethink how you are gonna play the game out.

There are carbines and BRs on the outside, as well as the needler and the brute shot. The Spartan Laser and the Beam Rifle are in the bases, both are best suited for outside use. That only leaves the shot-gun that is truly an inside weapon.

The carbine, BR, Splaser and Beam Rifle are all long/medium range weapons, and no one uses those on Snowbound as no one is outside.

Don't know what Snowbound your playing but in almost all the games I play in it, all of them get used pretty frequently as there are PLENTY of people outside.

Although your heatmaps show that you hardly get any outside kills?

Looks like they finally put the Bungie Star Wars system in place. That laser looks like its coming from the upper atmosphere...

Is that a sniper shot too? damn that dude is dead.
Hah, no, that's one of the jets that fly across the sky during the map.

And yeah, I climbed to the top of that pole to laser some folks... I only got two people before I got BR'ed, though.

If you figured out how to get in my tree>:(

It'd be nice if the shield doors malfunctioned every now and again, or if they got hit by enough plasma weaponry.

That's hot.
It woulda been awesome if the shield doors behaved like the players' shields, if they absorbed enough damage they'd deplete and after a few seconds pop back up. That would eliminate sheild door camping.

Yo, FYI I sent you an FR.

I was going to say this earlier, that would help the map a bit.

The reason I don't mind bubble shields so much is they only have a 30 second limit.

EazyB said:
My friends list is almost full so for the time being just send FRs to Oml3t, my alt, and I use friends of friends to have like a second list.
:lol

It would be pretty cool, actually, if the shield doors behaved like the deployable cover used in all three games - the absorb a certain amount of damage, tint, and then flare out for a few moments. That would really change the dynamics of camping.

Yeah, that would be great.

Shield doors + shotgun + Lone Wolves(45+) = fail. no one can argue that shield doors make those games better.
Hell, you don't need to be 45+ to see that.

I wonder if it would be possible for Bungie to make shield doors that can be taken down on future maps. Obviously, they couldn't change the current maps, but it would be pretty awesome if they had shield doors like that on future maps. Of course, not only is that a far-fetched dream, but the better solution would simply be to not have shield doors at all.

Wow, so many Snowbound haters.

Fuck you all.
I've got to say, I don't think a lot of people share this opinion with me, but I still think High Ground is essentially the perfect Halo 3 map.

...now, if only it didn't have those awful spawns.

I can see where you are coming from. In the Halo 3 Beta I enjoyed High Ground the most out of the three maps, but when Halo 3 came along, I didn't really like it that much anymore:(

My avatar dominates yours!
It most certainly isn't.

Highground is a lousy TS map because it isn't symmetrical. It's only decent on one flag and one bomb. But those two gametypes are outstanding on it.

Valhalla is the perfect map

Valhalla, Avalanche, Ghost Town, Blackout. Essentially the best H3 maps.

Oh, and I miss the Valhalla space glitch from the beta. That was my favorite glitch in Halo 3 ever.
Edit: My favorite glitch in any Halo game, ever.

I'd have to add Standoff and Gaurdian to that list but otherwise I'd mostly agree.

No, I don't. this short name is easier to identify among the dozens of threads with long names in the front page.

There's no such thing...
...now, if only it didn't have those awful spawns.
because of this.

I think a lot more maps would get a lot less hate (except for Snowbound, at high level play the map is nearly unbearable, I don't care what anyone has to say about that.) if the spawns weren't so wonky. Its really easy to predict when they're going to spawn behind you (except on Foundry, which seems completely random and has cost me a couple games, pretty infuriating), and especially easy on maps like High Ground and Construct. If there's even one enemy at the beach on High Ground, all of the other team will spawn in the base almost every time, no matter if the rest of the enemy team is sitting up by the turret in the base (same basic principle applies to Construct, replacing beach with Gold Lift and base with sword spawn). I just don't get it. On other maps, the spawns are completely in the open (I'm looking at you, Narrows, every single spawn point on the map is out in the open, and not behind the built in cover on the sides of the main section, making them viewable from the center of the bridge. What the hell.) and to be honest, sometimes its gamebreakingly bad. :(

A few things.

Thing One.

Out of curiosity, I took down the Campaign Kill Count when I saw the Bungie Blog post about it yesterday. About 24 hours later, 14.8m kills have been racked up. That's slightly below the 17.5m per day that Luke mentioned would need to be hit in order to cross 7 billion by the 7th. I suspect it will go up as the week progresses, especially over the weekend.

Along those lines:

"Best levels for efficient kills (high kills/minute of play):
- Crow's Nest
- The Storm
- Floodgate
- Cortana

First two are quick action, with only brief lulls in the fighting. Most importantly, they're not vehicle-heavy. Cortana and Floodgate are endless fighting -- very few times when you're not killing something.

Tsavo Highway, The Ark, and The Covenant are inefficient -- only 250-300 kills to be had for an hour-long level. (That's ~5 kills/minute.)

Few notes on vehicles:
- Passenger/turret kills count towards your total as long as you're in the vehicle. (BTW, for score runs, give your passenger a BR -- he'll give you headshot medals with it.)
- Vehicle kills only count if they're occupied -- in other words, aim to kill the vehicle first, not the occupants.
- Kill everything aboard a Scarab before you blow it. Sometimes a Grunt or two will somehow survive the blast.

Finally, Heroic seems to be the sweet spot for difficulty. Plenty of enemy spawns, but not so many you get overwhelmed.

Happy hunting.

Thing Two.

This is just plain awesome. Someone re-created the first Halo screenshot ever. The background could have been selected a bit better, but still well done.
