The podcast was good. Brian said their next game is very different from Halo, does that mean it's not an fps? Different genre? Or an fps in another setting? Though he said it was too early to say anything more, so they probably won't show it this year...:(

Apparently hosting records need to be updated for the new playlist. Give it another week and it'll be fine. Social BTB was horrible for the first few weeks of 8v8.

So, I have come up with this idea to have a "counter-strike" mode, where I have made the game have less gravity, slightly faster running speed, and it's a little easier to kill people. I have also been forging maps and made them all work with slayer (deathmatch) assault (demolition) and flag (Makeshift Hostage Rescue) one thing I need to figure out is the whole seeting it up so one team has the bomb every round and the other team defends every round.

Sometimes I will start up the round and th screen will say offense while the announcer says "defense". Is this just because I am playing by myself? What should my goal locations be set too?

That's pretty close to what MLG is doing. Slightly increased speed and damage.

That Ice World map we played in custom games was fun. Although those areas you could get up to were cheap. :(

Yes but this one also has more gravity so the jumping is not as high, and the damage is increased a bit more then MLG. Also the maps are forged specifically for this game type such as like a area to bomb, and the weapons laid out in front of everyone so it's as close to a "buy system" as you can get. Also your shields don't recharge so it's more like a health system.

Yea, well to get up there you need someone else to help you which was hard and usually one or both of you died. Or if you grenade jumped you lost most of your health since you shields did not recharge. Now though with increased gravity though it's pretty much impossible to get out there. But I have forged the map outside of the false boundaries so people are able to get back in, incase I ever play it with normal Round Based Rules.

The new maps I have made/near completion are:
hs_Sh4rkworld : foundry, a forge variant of iceworld,
hs_bunker: rat's nest
hs_raid : foundry, a forge variant of a remake of the splinter cell map estate.
hs_gorge : Valhalla

Working on:
hs_dust : Sandtrap (Can't figure out a good design for this level)
hs_recon : Standoff
hs_headqurters : The Pit
hs_???? : Last Resort

interesting. I'm making a Tactical SWAT variation and Map to go along with it. in my TAC SWAT variation, you move at 75% speed, gravity is 150% heavier, you have normal shields, 150% weapon resistance, and 300% weapon damage. Shields recharge at 50% slower speeds so you have to be careful. There are no headshot insta-kills (as one shot to an unshielded person is generally death)

Also, very critical to the gameplay is the fact that ASSISTS give your team a bonus point. Therefore, this mode rewards sticking together and using teamwork and communication to take down your opponents.

in the Map variant that goes with this, you can choose from four classes: Close combat, assault, ghost, and sniper. Each one provides different weapons and the ghost class also gives you a 90 second powerup granting poor camo and slightly faster running speed.

The map itself is made to create a tactical swat feel, with narrow corridors, and plenty of cover / hiding spots. There are also ventilation shafts and ducts that let you "drop out of the sky" and ambush enemies.
 
I FINALLY got my new (working) copy of Halo from Microsoft today, with a free month of XBL to go with it.

What map are you forging this on? Foundry I'm guessing. The class things is cool, although how does one choose the class? I guess the game works on a loyalty system, in that a sniper class won't snag a custom powerup. The aim with my maps was just to sorta make it so you say "Here's the game play it". I'm trying to make it fast paced yet emphazize on teamwork, although it also alows 1 player win a situation when they are out numberd due to if the other team is of less skill they can't just run away and hide and wait for sheilds and then swarm that player all at once. I'm gonna test it out with a few players and hopefully if people enjoy it, I plan on making some more maps, and maybe buying Bungie Pro and throw all the "official" maps and the 3 gametypes up there.

well the way the "class" system works is you spawn infront of 4 double boxes, one end you enter via a man-cannon (preventing from entering) and you exit the other end from a teleporter which takes you to the main area.

Inside the double boxes are the weapons/powerups for each class. There is a bit of an honor system in that you don't wait inside your respawn area and never enter the arena (if you're winning) and you don't camp the teleporters... still seeing if there's a good workaround for that.
 
Another thing that needs to be fixed in the AU - and something I actually don't think I've seen discussed here - is the custom powerup. It's broken. Like, it's literally broken. If you don't have full shields when grabbing a custom powerup, then you don't get it. Nothing happens when you grab it.

I've been meaning to mention this for a while, but I kept forgetting.

and while they're at it, give us multiple custom powerups, and the ability to set their powerup to unlimited, kay?
 
Um... wow.

There's a video on YouTube that explains how to carry a powerup around like a piece of equipment. All you have to do is have a piece of equipment in your inventory; crouch-walk as slow as possible up to a powerup while holding RB and then it switches the equipment for the powerup. This is one of those things that seems too crazy to be true, but it actually works. I just did it. The hard part is actually grabbing the powerup. You have to crouch-walk extremely slow and the instant you pick up the powerup, you have to let go of RB and back up so that you don't pick up the equipment you just dropped. There's a half-second time period in which you can still pick up the equipment you just dropped (if you don't let go of RB fast enough) and the powerup will be applied to you normally. But if you manage to back away without picking up your equipment, then it drops just as though you've switched it out with any other piece of equipment, and you will now hold a powerup in your inventory - there's no icon for it, but you'll know you have it because you won't be able to pick up equipment without getting the "hold RB to switch" prompt.

You can deploy the powerup by holding RB over any piece of equipment (even the one you just dropped). When you do that, you'll see the powerup pop back into existence, just as though you've been carrying it. Then, you'll automatically pick it up. I've done it with a Flare/Overshield and a Bubble Sheild/Active Camo.

I have a film clip in my File Share, slot 4.

I guess powerups and equipment are built on the same foundation, so to speak.
 
You can do the trick and then go stand on top of a piece of equipment and wait for someone to start to attack you - and then throw it. You're invincible.

Maybe. But after just a few tries, I've gotten better at doing it. It would be a rarely used glitch, but when you do pull it off it basically guarantees a kill.

Yeah, imagine doing it on High Ground on CTF - if you made it into the base, you could deploy the OS right as you pass over the Power Drainer, giving you invincibility right as you drop into the flag room.
 
So I went to play some Halo 3 today and my gold account switched to a silver! Grrrr, looks like I gots to pick me up another 12 month subscription card.

When do the Halo 3 maps become free? Im tired of holding out on them. That shit should have been included in the game to begin with, wtf.

Guardian sucks. Well, maybe not sucks, but its over-used in matchmaking. And while I'm yelling at a Bungie employee, those maps aren't worth $10 either. I told myself I wouldn't buy them because they're never integrated into matchmaking until way later. Somebody told me they WERE this time and if you don't have the maps when your team gets to them, you just go back to the lobby.

So, I bought the maps. Now I see that there's just a stupid DLC playlist and I'm annoyed. Put them in the rotation with everything else or don't charge for them. Its retarded. I'm embarrassed I supported this practice by paying for them.

They're in the normal playlists as well. If your party all has them, or you're playing by yourself you will get put on the new maps from time to time.

got 23 ghost splatters (2 splatter sprees) in a neutral bomb game but always ran into bad luck and ended up 1 or 2 away from my first vehicular manslaughter ;_;

I've played some 250 games since I've downloaded the maps and I haven't played a single one of them outside of the DLC playlist. I rarely play in a party too so that shouldn't be an issue.

Yet while that's disappointing, the $10 were totally worth it. Foundry and the community's maps have been fantastic. I'm really hoping for a Bungie Favorites playlist once the pack is made free. To make it simple they could all be maps suitable for certain sized teams.
 
OK...I love ranked BTB. But, how about cutting back on the number of times slayer appears? I understand that its probably necessary to have it in there to keep people interested in the game type. It just appears way too often.

Yeah, they said it was tilted towards Slayer, but it's really tilted that way. It will be better once there's more than three maps in there.

They are also in the regular rotation. If everyone in your lobby has the maps - they come up at a pseudo random frequency, like any other map. And thanks for the yelling. That is a great way to communicate your thoughts anfd feelings.
 
so what happened to the max_pl thing? did he back out, cause that'd be really weak

also i just found out that several of the actors from firefly had minor parts in halo 3 as marines making references to their firefly characters, nice job on that bungie
