Holy shit!

I want Soccer with gause cannon hogs.

I had an idea a while back: have a floating ball with a lot of bounce that everyone is trying to shoot at. When you hit it, it turns your color and you get points. Might work on an indoor map like the one above.

Just a shame it's a pain in the arse to get a good group of buddies together for custom games that are serious. Hopefully the gaf clans on live can now make it a little easier.

Hey guys. I wanted to get a quick opinion from everyone about something. I just got blacklisted from the Bungie forums by Lukems for about 4 months and I wanted you guys to decide whether or not what I posted actually broke any official bungie.net rules. Sure, I called Bungie out and said they were liars and sacks of trash, but it was also a misunderstanding. A simple correction/warning post by lukems and I would have apologized. Instead, he has the gumption to call my post a direct verbal assualt ("invective"). And then he goes on to say "have a nice vacation." This Lukems guy is a total prick. Anyway, here is a link to my post, or I should say his response to my post, which contains what I said.

http://www.bungie.net/Forums/posts.aspx?postID=14987382&viewreplies=true&postRepeater1-p=5

If you scroll down, you'll see his bright yellow post.

Please tell me what your thoughts are and don't be afraid to tell me I'm a complete idiot if that is what you think. I'm not going to start crying or anything. Thanks :)

Your opinion is fine, but you chose to express it in an prickish, insulting way. Mods mod, it is what it is. Enjoy the vacation ;p

You have to understand where my frustrations come from. I'm a die-hard HaloCE fan and just like thousands of other fans, have been wanting HaloCE multiplayer to be ported over to xbox live for years. Well one of the excuses that Bungie has used is that they aren't going to revisit HaloCE. They're done with it. But then all of a sudden it's being offered for download via xbox live, but with no on-line compatibility? Well that is retarded. It's a slap in the face. And I called Bungie out on it. I said they have head problems and are lying sacks of trash.

If I wanted to get myself banned I could have easily went off the deep end with more profane words and name calling. But I didn't. Within the context of my frustration, I don't think my post warrants a 4-month ban. I mean.. give me a break.

Lukems could have told me that Bungie has nothing to do with the new download, maybe given me a warning, and I would have apologized. But he didn't. I think he has a power trip going. And I still stand by what I said in the post. Downloading HaloCE = BIGGEST JOKE OF THE YEAR

Bungie isn't behind Xbox Originals. It's not their idea. They didn't decide to not put achievements or multiplayer or what not in the games, so really that decision is out of their hands I would imagine.

There are lots of ways to express that opinion that don't involve calling Bungie "lying pieces of trash." If you had been civil about it, it's very likely that Luke would have explained that Bungie had nothing to do with it. But you can't go on Bungie's forums and call them "lying pieces of trash" and expect to not get banned.

Your ban had nothing to do with what you were talking about, nor the fact that Bungie had nothing to do with Halo: CE's release. It was because of your choice of words.

can someone tell me what the purpose of team hardcore is?

i mean, judging from the name, it's for "hardcore" players. but pretty much everyone who i can consider "hardcore" players or even good at the game play mlg settings, which has serious changes like 110% speed, 110% damage, no shotguns, hammers, or swords, and specifically forged maps. it's a pretty different game.

so if team hardcore is sticking close to halo 2, and all it is is standard stuff like br start, no radar, etc, isn't that basically fucking them over? i mean, switching speeds and damages and weapons is a hassle, and you might as well not play it and just use friends of friends to get customs or do gamebattles matches.

It was my fault for not making sure I knew that, but oh well. Too late now :D

I agree with your point. But choice words? With the kind of stuff you hear today, that's like me throwing pillows at someone instead of rocks.

In a way, this is probably for the best. Posting on Bungie.net with all the little kids was one of my sad little addictions.

Team Hardcore was very popular on Halo2. Bungie is simply giving the old team hardcore back to the halo2 crowd. However, I would love to see an MLG gametype in matchmaking. I would try it out, at the very least. I think the quicker movement speed would be more along the lines of HaloCE. But I don't understand why they would take the shotgun out.

I'm on the "NeoGAF Shoot" friends list so you can check me on there. I play Halo 3 pretty much everyday, and I might even bring in a few of my own friends in as well.

Hardcore was semi-popular in Halo 2.

Once BTB becomes ranked I'm sure lots of fans will be happy (their faves becoming ranked, etc.).

It was widely speculated before and confirmed after that the Xbox Originals were identical to the retail versions; you are downloading the exact retail code, which runs on the same emulator. (As others have said, Bungie had nothing to do with the download program.) In light of this, you wrote of Bungie:

You said:
What a bunch of lying pieces of trash.
So, yeah. I think you got what you deserved. :)

Since I'm in the posting mood right now, does anyone else think that Halo3 is just getting started?

I believe even Bungie knew that the Halo3 released, would probably need to have a few kinks straightened out before people would be really happy with it. Now they're trying to fix the problem with the lack of maps in the game. They're looking into the melee issues. Ranked Big Team Battle is looking like it will be coming back early next year. Team Hardcore is making its return. There are just a whole slew of improvements lined up for Halo3.

I'm starting to get very excited.

Does anybody have any idea of who is handling a sequel to Halo 3 (if there is any)? There is not much wrong with Halo 3, is the best game I have ever played. However, I believe that a second attempt by Bungie at creating another Halo game for the 360 would result in a better product, if only based on the fact that they would have more experience with the hardware. I will be extremely happy even with only a multiplayer focused edition of the game with revamped graphics and many more maps (sort of like what Quake Arena is to the Quake series). I am willing to wait 3 years if thats what it takes, but constantly being reminded that this is the last Halo game makes me anxious and a little bit sad since now that I am finally becoming a decent player, the series might be discontinued and a new hot IP might take its place. I just hope that if there is in fact a totally new IP in the works, the fans of Halo (the shooter) are not forgotten.

"Lying piece of trash."

Before posting stuff like that, ask yourself, "what would Stinkles do if I said that to his face?" Ban calibrator for your brain.

I have a wrist band that says just that: "What Would Stinkles Do?"

I also highly recommend that the referee/monitor also provides humorous play-by-play during the match along with yelling "GOOOOOAAAAALLLLLL!!!!!" when a score is finally made.

Why does this sound more fun to me than actually playing in the game itself? :lol

If I posted on B.net, which I don't do because the people there are fools who caused the downfall of the arbiter, I would always imagine Stinkles shooting me with a feces cannon before posting.

No. This is only true if everyone has even pings to the host. I'm going to guess that you are playing Halo in North America, against North Americans.

If you played in Europe, you would occasionally be paired up against all-US teams. The problem here is that *everyone* on the host team has "host advantage".

The host obviously has a latency of zero: what he sees on his screen is what happens in the game. The other three guys on his team have about 30ms latency, because they're pretty close.

All the guys on the other team across the atlantic have 200ms latency to the host. So in any 50:50 battle between the teams, the side with host gets a 170ms--200ms latency advantage. This means that with the Halo 2 system, unless you get lucky or out-fox the other player, you're not ever going to get a melee strike in because you'll be dead first.
Enough time has passed (and I haven't been in this thread in so long) that this bears repeating once again.

Happy sigh for recognition of the single most frustrating aspect of Live multiplayer.

Stinkles, sorry for the fairly lacklustre EG question session, they're not generally receptive to Halo over there. You answered my Halo Tournament question, though.

What makes it worse is that they wouldn't let people e-mail questions in.

I dunno about anyone else, but at 3pm on a Friday I am in one place, and one place only -- work.

I had tons of awesome questions to ask, too. :(

I keep going back and rereading my post. Yes it was not the best choice of words. But if Bungie had had anything to do with the HaloCE DLC, which is what I thought, it would have been totally true. But I was wrong. I still think all that he needed to do was correct my misinformation, without giving me a 4 month ban. But he did ban me and I guess it's justifiable.

But not to worry, Stinkles, I'm happy here at Neogaf and I have no wish to offend anyone else, especially you.

There's a lot of ridiculous stuff Bungie has done and could be called out on. But it's true, Halo: Combat Evolved running from the Xbox Originals downloads is purely an emulation of the actual game. Microsoft engineers did that, not Bungie.

The one amusing thing is I've seen worse stuff said on Bungie's forums and they didn't get blacklisted.

I think that was more apology than sucking up - he had previously called Bungie "lying piecs of trash," so I don't think sucking up is his intention.

Bah... I submitted some fairly different questions but none of them got through. I wanted to know more about Pimps At Sea: Pillaging Evolved - apparently the moderator wasn't so interested. =(

I always felt that they were under-moderated. Oh well.

Well, I'm glad that multiplayer is getting a large reboot on Tuesday. It's going to reel me back in.

Stinkles/Luke: Are any of the new map variants being experimented with in BTB user-made? Anyways, the new update was great. Lots of good news.

but team hardcore pretty much WAS the mlg gametypes in halo 2. and that's why it was popular. i'd guess that 90% of the people above level 20 played mlg customs and at least somewhat followed the tourney scene and 90% of the people above level 30 had been to an event and played with well-known players. and pretty much anyone who got above level 40 was or had been a pro. i mean really i'd guarantee that the reason it was popular was because of the mlg players.

when team hardcore was first introduced, it WAS more or less the mlg '05 gametypes, except for backwash and as the mlg gametypes were updated, the team hardcore gametypes changed with them, except with certain minor inconsistencies. right now you can go play h2 team hardcore and it includes all 11 mlg '07 gametypes with almost all the rules correct, and only 4 gametypes are not mlg, that being koth on middy, warlock, and lockout, and ball on warlock. and the koth gametypes WERE mlg gametypes during the '05 season.

if bungie really was following their halo 2 team hardcore model, they'd base them directly off of the mlg gametypes. and then update according to them. and i think everyone would be happy all around and there'd be less complaining. and i think mlg players already have enough to complain about

Frank, Luke: is "Good Connection" being looked into? That is, it seems to be designed to look for low-latency games, but problem is that we still get put in transatlantic games with horrible lag.

If you think this can't be fixed, okay, but if there are top men on it I'd love to have some hope of more frequent fair games.

Yeah, too much to play the game it's intended to be played.
