Regardless of difficulty, respawns work like Halo 1 (teammate safe/not-in-combat). H2 kick-you-back-to-the-checkpoint style is only available via activating a skull.

Oh, and I totally dig that Ryu Hasabuya armour. My favourite character from Dead or Alive, so I'll probably be using that when / if I unlock the full set. The Mark IV marathon armour looks pretty cool too, though the body of it doesn't really sway well with me.
Will our HUD design change depending on the different helmets we wear? The monitors in Forge, not to mention the Elites, have a slight variation on HUD aesthetics. So I'm assuming variations like the CQB and EVA will have different markings?
