How many Ferrari engineers are Formula One champions? Besides, Bungie has plenty of level 50 players, whether you've been exposed to them or not.

if we keep letting bungle and M$ do this then eventulay we will be getting ZERO experiennce for our moneys and i dont think you guys realize this but i realize this because it is happening and i see it

I don't think it will pull Halo 3 numbers but I think it will outsell Halo Wars...I think Call of Duty 6 is set to be the monster seller this year

What's to joke about? Given that ODST is an expansion rather than a full-fledged game, and a game that doesn't have you playing as the MC, it's easy to see why it might not do well. Halo Wars gives a very good indication that the direct opposite is true, and that the fanbase of Halo carries over into different genres and games (outside the trilogy).

Will never happen. At my rate (currently at 2000exp exact) I will be playing Halo 4 before I come anywhere near the BrigGen rank. :)

I want to say, right off the bat, that I enjoy Halo Wars. It's the only RTS I can handle, it's a blast, the campaign and its story was amazing. I happily ate crow when I bought it and realized how much slack I was giving the game. Anyways...

Halo 3: ODST is within the trilogy (you know, that same trilogy that has now become one of the greatest video game series of all time). It's an FPS, the one every Halo fan can relate to when they say "Hey, want to play some Halo?". Trust me when I say that when they say that, they're not talking about Halo Wars.

ODST will also bring 3 new Halo 3 maps which fans will want to gobble up. And I'm sure Bungie has other secret things in store for the ODST Multiplayer scene that we've been hinted at from Mr. Staten a while back.

And my favorite: Bungie's making it! More folks who are fans of video games (be it hardcore, strictly Halo fans, or anything in-between) know more about Bungie and what they've done than you think. They've gained street cred and a lot of it. :P

Halo 3: ODST will sell 1 million in the first couple days of release in the US easily. And I'm basing that assumption out of ODST coming out at 59.99. Anything lower and expect it to skyrocket.

You make good points. I was just asking because before today, I was expecting ODST to sell 500K at the most in its first month. Now, I'm expecting over 1 million in that same time period.

I don't know, maybe I just had unreasonably low expectations.
 
I don't actually know what I'm expecting from ODST. I think if it's too similar to standard Halo I'll be disappointed, but I also know that it's not necessarily going to be a cover shooter like I would really enjoy. I guess we'll see in a few months.

You're failing to realize that there are now two types of Halo fans, those that've played and enjoyed the FPS games and those who've witnessed the glory that is RTS Halo. ODST may be able to ride Halo Wars's coattails and outsell it but then a ton of those copies will be returned once they find out it's not a RTS.

It wont matter if it has 5 days or 15 days to sell in its first month. I am saying by the time we get the numbers it will be 3+ million.

Not sure why anyone would underestimate the Halo brand.

Worldwide or US only?

Because if you are only estimating US, then you are saying it will do Halo 3's numbers, which won't be the case.

Halo 3 sold 3.3 million copies in September 2007 NPD, and 430K in October 2007 NPD.

1) On a much smaller install base than current
2) Halo 3 has gone on to sell a couple million more units than that in the US

Beyond that, I think it's difficult to predict; it won't be a "normal" Halo release. Much of it depends on Microsoft's pricing decision. $40 and I think can hit a few million in the first month, easy. A full $60 will take the edge off sales.

1) The push for ODST advertisement is nowhere near Halo 3's (though, I doubt any game will receive that same attention for awhile).
2) We're talking about on its release.

1) We're still six months out from release. We didn't even get campaign shots of Halo 3 until the E3 before release (June). Aside from the Beta, marketing for Halo 3 didn't ramp up until summer. And obviously an expansion won't recieve as much press as the initial release. Expect it to get much more than say, Halo Wars, though.

By this time we had information on all three types of editions for Halo 3, a sixty second TV commercial, and an announcement of a beta.

It's not going to do Halo 3 release numbers. No game ever will, unless it is the next main Halo game. I'm not saying it won't sell, but it's release numbers definitely won't be as high as Halo 3.

I mentioned the beta. Infos on packaging isn't a whole lotta marketing. And true on the TV commercial, though it only ran once. Hawt though.
