The Official Halo 3 Thread

I've seen a lot of positive things about the maps (which is REALLY good to hear), but, for those of you who do have the maps (obviously), is there anything that's -- What's the nicest way to put this? -- not up to par? I'm talking about weapon placements, spawns, gametypes (king of the hill still a problem?), stuff of that kind.

This, just spread it around.

If I knew map codes were handed out I would have guessed everyone who got one did. Because its a little inner GAF circle jerk. Always has been always will be.
They did spread it around. A LOT of people who didn't get previous packs, or even get into the beta, got it this time.

I think the idea is that the only reason you are getting the maps is because a) you post on GAF and b) you suck up to Bungie employees.

There are thousands of players who deserve it more than any of you, who would appreciate it more, and who would do more with it. Mainly, people who play the game more than they post about it.

How does one deserve a videogame map more than another person? If you play the game and enjoy it, then that's all that should really matter. Just because one person plays every night of their life means they deserve it more than someone who gets to play once a week? Some people have higher priorities, but yet still enjoy the game as much as anyone.

I think it's great for AR starts.

Orbital still confuses me, and there's like, four corners.

What I like about both is their visual style - they are both unique in the Halo 3 map set. Bungie strayed elsewhere in the fiction for the locations and I think it paid off.
Yeah, I love the style of both maps. I thought Orbital would be cluttered and noisy, but it's actually quite nice. Assembly is gorgeous, although I have NO idea where things are (besides the obvious invis and hammer.

I think Bungie has done a great job of getting codes out to the community. Obviously they can't give codes to everyone, so there's always going to be the haves and the have-nots. What's nice is that they've made the haves as large as possible. If anyone remembers, I think that three people here (Urk, Ghaleon, and Wu... maybe someone else?) got Legendary map pack codes. This time around, like 20 people got codes.

I understand that it stinks to be on the outside looking in, and that deserved people don't have codes, but that's life. There's got to be haves and have-nots, you crazy commies.

EDIT: Oh yeah, Voc got the code too.

It's sounds like Orbital is going to be confusing. For those of you who have the maps, have you gotten the hang of Orbital's layout yet?
I know that this has already been answered, but I just want to add that it tends to take me quite a while to get the hang of maps, and I pretty much knew where everything was after one match on Orbital. very confusing to look at screens and an overhead map, but it's actually very straightforward.

How do you gauge DESERVE? Terminal illness?

I'd say the only way you'd deserve the early pixel romp, is if you have only a few weeks to live and if you have to wait...you're dead.

PS: I'm dying.

I did not realize they gave away Legendary codes.

They did not give enough Legendary codes away. Cold Storage needs to be used much, much more than it is.

Maybe, maybe not.

There's a difference between just talking and... what you guys do...

Well, there's a big difference between someone who's played Halo since CE and has played 100,000 games and someone who's played only Halo 3 and has 5,000 games played. And if the latter posts on GAF, I guess they're just more deserving than the other person.

I remember (still lurking the site) in this thread about a week before the Legendary Map Pack release and seeing in-game shots of the new maps and impressions and other stuff (don't remember how many people got the codes). It was great, and very wonderful to read GAF impressions. Voc said this before, but Bungie IS THE BEST when it comes to its community. Bar none.

I didn't get the maps, but I trust Bungie (and the people) that there wasn't any foul play in the selection process, or anything unfair. I'm not bitter nor angry, I can understand who got the codes and why, but I do want to play the maps.

So much...

I generally don't have a problem with people having the new maps while I'm here playing the older ones. The only thing that bugs me (for the first time mind you) about this latest round of codes is that the maps technically won't be out for a couple of weeks so this means a lot of more overexposure than I would have liked. I went from starving for map info to now being sick of having to scroll over 30+ Sandbox images per post every page or other page. The same goes for Sandbox talk. I haven't even touched Sandbox and I'm pretty sick of it already and we still have a few weeks to go.

The pang has begun in this thread.

How does one exactly...deserve maps? Amount of time played in Halo?

There's no difference, pretty much everyone in this thread and probably everyone who got a code has loved the franchise since CE, it doesn't matter if they've played 10 or 10,000 games of MP. A 100,000 games played though, that's pretty stunning if true. :lol ;)

Didn't you know? There's a measure of deservedness and SSS is the one to determine it.

Assembly looks like one of the greatest maps Bungie has ever made.

To those who have played it, well, how is it?

IMO ... it is AWESOME ... BR starts make me drool .... once you start to get the layout down (ie being able to walk up ramps backwards while looking the other way kind of things and learning the jumps) is rawks even more.

The main thing that I can think of (for the abundance of codes being given away) is the fact that outside of HW ($80 LE no less) is to WAIT ~5 weeks to get them off of the MP. Bungie isn't happy that its fans have to wait to play the goodness that has been ready for MONTHS now. Their way of "sticking it to the man."

What, you think we're throwing it in your face or something?

If I, for one, have been giving that impression, I do apologize, but I haven't seen anything like "ha-ha, suck it, I've got the maps and you don't"

As Ramirez said, 'deserving' is subjective. How does playing more games make you more deserving of something?

I've legally owned a firearm for 50yrs therefore, at some point in my life, I deserve to shoot someone.

amidoingitright?

For what it's worth, I see where you're coming from Sixth, and I actually think you would give your code to a map maker or something had you gotten one. :lol

Just sayin', at the end of the day, anyone who plays the game on a semi regularly basis probably deserved a sneak peek.

How does posting on GAF make anybody more deserving? Not saying the people who got them don't deserve it, but this is just one community out of alot. I don't know who else all got the maps, but I didn't really see alot of people on other forums getting free codes, aside from contests.

All I'm saying is there are ALOT more hardcore fans of this game than just on GAF, and there are different ways of finding them than just selecting them based on the fact that they post on the same forum as a dev does, or that they win a random contest.

A 100,000 games played though, that's pretty stunning if true. :lol ;)

Believe it

I'm not sure what's worse, acting like a high schooler or pretending to act like a high schooler. This has gotten ridiculous.

I also agree with Kuroyume.

Shhh! I want them all for myself! give them to me i play teh haloes

That's actually what I was planning on doing wtf

Turf is nearing it's completion. Probably around 90% done at this point. I will post pics of it tonight
someone remind me if I don't

I'm really close to the budget limit at this point but I'm trying to prevent people from grenade jumping over walls and stuff.

last night i got construct for a game of big team slayer in squad battle, and it made me wonder who at bungie thinks thats ok but cold storage is too small for regular 4v4 gametypes

why isn't that map required for almost every playlist?

I'd love to hear your ideas for handing out codes to "more deserved" people. Handing them out randomly to people with 10k+ games would be foolish, a whole bunch of those people are jerks, there's something to be said about the fact that we've only ran into 2-3 assholes during matchmaking. The population Bungie gave codes to seem to all good people, no corpse humping, MLG tards, little kids, TKers, etc.

Believe it

So, how do you determine hardcore? Game count?

What if you've played 5 games of Halo3 but you've bought all the Halo 3 dolls and a poster of Frankie. That my friends is all the hardcore I'd need to see

That's what I'm thinking. I don't see the point in giving certain folks on GAF the early maps (for free, no less) than all those who contribute. Don't say "there's only certain amount" -- like there is certain amount of paper they're limited to.

Not one person is above another in here.

Then again, I believe some also got the Legendary maps early/free as well, among other things.

TDG said:

Nah, I didn't get a Legendary code. I did get one Heroic code, but I ended up buying those for myself and giving it to someone.

Like Luke said, they wish they had a mountain of codes to give away -- but we live in the real world with real publishers and real money to be had. This means finitude.

I'm just not following the logic as to why the limited supply of codes would be given to people who, by their own open admission, spend the vast majority of their time complaining about the game and demanding that certain Bungie employees be fired. There's a good swath of people on here, like Self Induced for example, who I think it would be cool to see get the hook up, but I'm just not understanding why in the world the people who are complaining about not getting the maps the most are the same exact people who complain about the game itself, almost every day if more often.

Be honest guys, you want the maps so you can have something to complain about by the weekend? Am I right? ;-)

Too true, man. Too true. MS is a pretty awesome dude, I bet he wanted Bungie to give out the Mythic maps 6 months ago but Mr. Bungie was like, "Hell no, I'mma sit on these until your next published game comes out and force you to bundle it exclusively with it". At this point my homeboy, MS, begged and pleaded for Bungie to give the maps out for free to as many people as they wanted but Bungie decided that he'd rather collect all the cash they'll be making from the Halo Wars LE and just give out an artificially low number of codes to act like the good guys.

Some day MS will have a say on how Bungie's content is delivered, and that will be one glorious day.

I'm not getting Halo Wars. Too much money to complain about the maps early.

I need free maps so I can really get a jump on the complaining.
