correction: they ruined matchmaking, which on the whole was uncompetitive and was already destroyed by rampant cheating. button combos did wonders for competitive halo 1 and 2. it's not so cut and clear.

i'm not trying to say they're good for the game; after all, they were glitches, and alot of people (including me) refused to use them in matchmaking, which put those who did at an advantage. but i think something like them that's put into the game on purpose would actually be a pretty good idea. imo there should be little tricks in the game that take time to master completely that a less skilled player couldn't pull off consistently. not necessary button glitches, but something. more depth couldn't be a bad thing as long as it's balanced properly, right?

You guys are acting as if there aren't any "button combos" in Halo 3. Mauler beatdown, snipe beatdown, melee-jump back-shoot combos anyone? Yeah, it might not be BXR but it's still very similar based on the way that "button combos" is being defined.

The only real distinction here is between "combos" built into the game by design, and those not.

God. Button combos. Are we really back to that? It's like Dax is the new MaX_PL.

The need to use melee in combination with grenades in close quarters. Halo 2 games were a lot faster than Halo 3 because of BXR and BXB giving you the ability to kill someone faster.

That's arguable. (Mauler beatdown stands out in my mind on certain maps.)

You're correct, sorry, and I actually agree with you on the mauler. Though, that can be solved by making it weaker.
 
I wouldn't call them button combos...Button combos implies that they were put there purposely. They're glitches. In Halo 2, I used to be anti glitch in match making or serious customs. Then it just got to the point where I couldn't perform well enough without them. So I decided to start using them. BXR is an overrated glitch, the most important glitch was the auto reload glitch (off host only) LXX, or LX which ever it was.

I consider those "button combos" to be glitches just like super bouncing, which to me is cheating. So, I guess I'm a cheater too.

Yeah, that's true. Where does Mauler beatdown fit into this list? Honestly, it seems FAR too fast to be considered as built into the game by design.

Don't forget the one which allowed the BR to fire four bursts at more than twice the speed it should be able to.

No duh, but how fast the combination allowed you to do it made it overpowerd, and thus ruined Halo 2's gameplay.

Dax is on my ignore list (sorry little guy) but I agree with what he is trying to say:

You're ability to use illegal button combos in Halo 2 does not make you a more skilled player.

maybe a couple of them were too simple and they popped up too much in games, like bxb and possibly bxr. but most of them weren't as easy as you make them out to be. anybody could hit bxr with the right timing, but not alot of them could set it up right so that the shot hits perfectly. most players couldn't aim doubleshots anyways - you had to hit rrx really fast while aiming. that was why alot of them worked; they took coordination. not anybody could do them.

Was only talking about BXR and BXB, but yeah, there were some glitches that weren't easy to do like the one that made the BR shoot twice as fast as it was suppose to.

Double shot, eh? Wasn't that difficult once you got it down. One of my friends could pull it off every other shot.

So using button combos in Halo 2, or glitches, whichever you want to say (it's still qualified as cheating either way you spin it) is simply using skill in a competitive playlist.

Right. Using a cheat in a video game is skill.

first save whatever pic you wanted as your "trophy shot" to your gallery then go into your gallery (its a tab) and check the set as trophy button


i think thats what you were asking
