Steam Machine Reviews

Of course they did. They are retarded.
I mean the hardware and software is pretty great but the ball has been dropped MAJORLY with the price. The best thing to do would've been partnering with Asus to keep cost in line.

I get being a private company and all and the urge to keep all the dollars but this is one of those times that they should've either subsidized or partnered up.

They weren't going to subsidize it. This is basically retail price post-RAM price spikes. The only way you are doing better than this is to get old inventory (like the one I mentioned in the first page).

I am hopeful it does well enough continue into the next iteration. I HATE big pcs nowadays. I do not want bigger pc parts I want smaller pc parts. I want smaller PCs.

Mini pcs are gaining popularity and becoming more powerful so I guess there's hope yet.

The specs to price ratio make no sense.

It's not a device worth buying to make use of for its intended purpose.

It'll be cool to sell one on eBay to a moron for double the price once the timing is right.

People will buy this regardless... and it may help pave the way to helix acceptance. And whatever pc hybrid machine Sony eventually brings to market. Prices be damned.
Here we go again with the SonyToo.

That price. Even when this is normal today, it's just so many money for average gaming. Wow!

I think this tech crisis is eliminating a whole console generation.
So I am glad that I grab a series x for 449 euros that day. And it will be a absolute beast for that price today.

Time to give gaming a lower priority in life and all is good.

The ever growing disaster that is PC gaming affordability. Just when GPU prices begin to stabilize, we get the memory crunch. It's been one thing after another as these companies continue to demand 30, 40, 50% margins. This is far bigger than gaming, and it's completely unsustainable.

I would appreciate it if I got it for free. That's paying 0 dollars and a card thanking me for being a fan. That's when I would endorse it. There's just so many options out there. So much time and information at your disposal. Even if you had $1000 USD, wouldn't you just look for a prebuilt? It's like paying $10 for a gallon of milk.

According to the GamersNexus review the price isn't actually THAT uncompetitive compared to DIY.
If this came out a couple years ago it could actually be a good alternative for people who don't really like DIY and just want a pre-built PC that just works out of the box and behaves similarly to a console.
But yeah, in today's market it's way too expensive, I still think it's going to sell out but not because it'll sell like hot cake but because the stock will probably be very limited...
Good on Gaben and co for trying, bad timing and luck killed this before it could even take off.

He stated that was closest like for like parts. That was not a best performance/cost comparison.

PC will be fine, only thing that would destroy it would be no new games, including AAA, AA and indie games, otherwise it has highest survivalibity even compared to most succesful console.
Entry lvl 870$ mashine (around base ps5 gpu power altho much better ai and rt capabilities since its newest nvidia family , still bit better cpu power ;p ).
That is how games look and run on it

Judge for urself if its bad or still fine enough if we talking entry lvl mashine.
Yes, we splurged for 32gigs of ram, fuck it :D

So this piece of shit costs way too much, runs worse than a base console
Yes and no. Old games will obviously run better as they are unlocked in resolutions and frame rates but new AA/AAA games will have less frames but FSR4 instead of pixel soup FSR1/2/3.

So no Half Life 3 accompanying it?
That's it i'm done with hoping Valve getting their shit together regarding HL3.
It isn't powerful enough to run HL 3…

It probably can't even run HL Alyx on high settings (a 6 year old game) because it only has 8GB VRAM

This thing should be $499 max for the 512GB model in a normal market. I dont see it selling well with such a GPU and the storage isnt even soldered on so you lose the 512GB when you buy a new NVMe SSD. Its a terrible deal with such a weak GPU as well.

I thought I was going to get one, but now I don't know. Price seems high for what you get.
Yeah I was interested in getting one just for the hell of it, to occasionally use in the living room a game here and there not really a primary device. But at this price, and I would want the 2 TB model, it's really very very difficult to justify. Perhaps impossible.

I really wanted to hate this, but im on the fence now yes the cost is bad, but I can use my own RAM and HD from a previous build so I can get 64GB and a 4TB in there probably. Might not be a bad second room PC, or I guess I could just install steam OS on my old 3080ti Corsair 1 and have a much more capable system even though it uses Nvidia stuff

why are people mentioning helix... all this tells me is that helix is doa. if it is as powerful as they say it's a $2500 machine at this point.

Even Mooreslawisdead is also so angry about it. He mentioned it is underpowered, Gabes Yacht, and very expensive 😁
