Wow. Talk about being sensitive. He never calls him gay, and it could have been an 80's throwback outfit that guy was wearing. Did anyone watch basketball in the 80's? They weren't gay. Well, I guess I'm being intollerant by not seing the prejudice here huh.

Nowhere is it indicated that he is gay.

Exactly. So now I'm supposed to assume speedwalker is gay?

I'd need to see the article where groups are complaining, but the allegation seems like it should be more offensive than the commercial.

Shouldn't power-walkers sue the gay groups for calling their sport gay?

I clicked and noticed my volume was off. So I turned it up and saw this guy with little yellow shorts walking around while Jens Lekman was singing. I thought it was kind of funny--then I realized that it was my iTunes playing and youtube was muted. True story.
And then I found $5.

I've never seen a gay man move his ass that much when walking.

I have, on South Beach. They're called queens, but the guy in this commercial was simply an effeminate speed walker.

yeah, I don't see the problem with this commercial. If anything, by protesting against the commercial, the gay groups are the ones who are stereotyping gay people.

On second thought, the guy didn't have one of those high pitched voices that all of those effeminate gay men do, he just walked like a woman.

Nevermind, GAF.

Snickers is still getting their CPM down with the internet controversy, kinda like the Daisy ad, only with the internet instead of network news.

That commercial is great. What the hell?

It's got Mr. T with a freaking Snickers GATLING GUN.

That should be the highlight of the commercial, but instead gay activists thought it was all about slamming gay people. I hate tollerant America. The best episode of Southpark I have ever seen was about tollerance.

So all power-walkers are gay now? I think power-walking groups should protest this unfair prejudice from gay groups.

:lol

I guess I'll explain to all of the, "But they never said he's gay!"

Homophobia that is not rooted in religious beliefs ("God says it is wrong.") are mostly rooted in beliefs about masculinity and femininity. That is why effeminate gay men report the greatest number of homophobia related issues, why effeminate gay teens have higher reported rates of attempted suicide, and so forth. The advertisement plays into that; by saying, "Get some nuts!" it implies that you are not male if you are not masculine.

The gay groups dislike the ad because of that, not because they think that character in the advertisement was gay or think that male effeminacy is the exclusive purview of homosexuals.

How is this anti-gay? Is it the "real man" quip? Most power-walkers I know are straight anyway.

Most of them are seniors in my experience. Alot of them are so old they can remember when the whole gay thing got started. j/k

Old Fart: "So then I turned to Moses and asked him why those two men are kissing.........."

But effeminate men (gay or straight) deserve all that ridicule.

Damned gays! Also, the commercial worked. I'm going to buy me some Snickers.

I am building a Snickers chain gun now.

And that commercial only hated on a lame ass stop gap between running and walking, so it was fine.
