Should Microsoft end gamepass?

It is clearly not profitable and one of the reasons that a lot of their studios are in the red.

The subscription model does not work in gaming like it does for music and movies.

The new gears has cost 200m apparently. How are they going to recoup that without PS sales?

Yes. But it is the only thing unique about their console at this point. If they do that they should just go full 3rd party (they should probably do that anyways).

Yes.

the only gamepass tier they should keep is gamepass premium

remove Gamepass Essential, remove Ultimate.

make online MP free, run Gamepass Premium exactly like how Sony runs PS+ Premium

Xbox is probably ending

They do not have the goodwill or games to go full exclusive. They could end gamepass today, Xbox will still need to become a publisher for all platforms. They can not survive on the Xbox brand alone now

Going all in like they did , it didn't sit well with me. Early on you could see the trend of fans making excuses for poor ganes by saying "oh well it's free" and of course asking publishers "game pass?" regarding upcoming releases.

I fucking hate it to be honest, it has affected a lot of the games , the mindset of the consumer and the good of the platform.

wait you guys keep it running.

i literally sub for the month a new game i want to play comes out, then i unsub until the next.

Why buy for $80 when you can rent for $10

No, it's great for consumers. If they end Gamepass Sony will end PS+ Extra/Premium too.

Studios that have been shut down with or without Game Pass.
Do you think Ninja Theory got better or worse under Microsoft's (and therefore the Game Pass) business model? We went from Heavenly Sword, Enslaved, and DmC to... Hellblade, then Hellblade II.

At this point? Yes.

Once the price hike happened I bailed and even with the price going back down I'm not fucking with it again.

If you want the studio to exist they need game sales, not gamepass downloads.

Lol. Sony doesn't add their 1st party games day one on their sub.

It isn't great for consumers. Never was great for consumers. Just shows how they don't give a fuck about devs, but gamers wanna play games they make. Eh.

One part of "Game Pass" that definitely needs to die is the paid multiplayer part of the deal.

Sadly, that's like the most profitable part of Xbox as a brand at this point.

you mean aside from the studio closures?
The games didnt even hit internal engagemnet goals. i.e. nobody wanted that crap.

As fas I know Ninja Theory and other studio chose to waste MS's money non-commercially viable products. Maybe MS was partially responsible for greenlighting those games but it's still the studio's fault too.

I mean FFs who was asking for 3 Senua games.

The only way a gaming subscription makes financial sense to me is treating it like a way to get some extra revenue from your old shit that's not selling anymore. Like what cable used to be for movies.

You release for $60-70, then after some months you give it a 20-30% discount every now and then, and then once sales have slowed significantly and you basically only move units by putting it on a deep sale you also go get some extra revenue by putting it on a subscription service.

Why? It probably makes them a decent amount of cash.
