Should I buy an Xbox?

Build a PC. Start cheap but upgradable as your budget allows. A 5060ti/9060xt 16GB outperforms either console. Sell parts as you upgrade. It's a relatively cheap hobby even with the recent DRAM/NAND madness because resale values are high.

Get it and nab some physical 360/Series X discs on eBay while you're at it, while you still can!

I have a One X for playing all my BC 360 and OG Xbox discs. It's also a good media machine (4K Blu-ray , Plex + streaming apps)

Highly recommend, great way to play them and cloud saves are free (I don't have GP/XBL)

It's too late after all the (drastic) price increases. It was a great deal several years ago, you could have a nice cheap machine to run modern games or to emulate older titles (Series S).

Do you have the disposable income? Yes, continue - No, stop
Do you want an XBOX Series X? Yes, continue - No, stop
Do you want it to be white? Yes, continue - No, go black
Order/pick up your new console.

No idea what the Sony thing is about but it doesn't really matter if the question is about buying an XBOX.

If you're dead set on not going with Sony and you don't have a current generation console then the Series X is a great choice, despite what many others would tell you.

When you set aside the industry politics and exclusives (which you yourself are somewhat setting aside by immediately counting out Sony), Series X goes toe to toe with PlayStation and in some ways out does it in my opinion (multi-game Quick Resume is incredible and underrated). Games look and run great, and 3rd party support is pretty good these days aside from the occasional Japanese game that'll skip it, but that's been slowly getting better over the last decade.

Now honestly, is it worth how much they're asking for it now after its 3rd price hikes? Depends on how bad you want to game, but when consoles get more expensive so do PC parts, and if GTA is really what you're aiming for you're going to spend more money and more time getting it on PC than biting the bullet with an Xbox.

If the price is no burden, I'd say go for it. But if you can find a deal, even better. A very nice gaffer sold me their Xbox so perhaps you could get lucky and find the same opportunity

If you absolutely want to play GT6 this year but don't want a PS them simple answer is yes.

I mainly game on my series X and also still have a one X kicking about. Also get everything that's not on Xbox on my PC. I've been an Xbox gamer since day one and my digital libabry goes way back to 2007.

MS management mistakes aside it's a solid console. I'm assuming you are not too bothered about all digital because you want the white series X which is discless.

Personally I like gamepass but many on here will tell you it's the cancer of the games industry even more so than dei hires . But let's put gaf opinion of Xbox as a whole aside for a moment… in isolation it's a good console. Gamepass is good. MS are great on backwards comparability and preserving your library even when games are delisted. And Xbox has big exclusives again. High chance the next fallout, oblivion, halo etc are all excludes.

Gears, fable and clockwork revolution look great. FH6 is a great racing game. All in all…. Can't go wrong with one. Even with MS mistakes, it still has a more robust line up of exclusives coming, and helix could really be that Xbox-PC hybrid, best of both worlds type situations. By then assuming you bought the series X now you will probably even have a fat backlog to carry over to helix.

Buying a series X is NOT a bad idea no matter what gaffers tell you. If you are concerned about preservation of your digital libabry they really are the next best option outside of steam/PC. And given that Xbox and PC merge when helix comes along, it makes sense. Buy an Xbox now, buy a helix later…. Or build your own helix when that SOC gets in the hands of the vendors like ASU's and MSi etc. . The options will be there, Atleast as an Xbox owner.

It's not a bad idea and actually a decent deal now considering they're losing $200+ on each Series X sold.

Anyone that posts an even remotely positive comment about Xbox here is gonna be accused of being an astroturfer or Jez himself, but seriously it's not a bad idea, especially because the cross-gen period for next-gen is going to be the longest we've ever seen. You'll be good for like the next 5-6 years.

Edit: And yeah it would be brutal waiting a year or whatever for the PC version of GTA6. Guaranteed you get spoiled, plus the worst FOMO ever. Just find some way to play it on launch, whether it's Xbox or PS.

Buying a gaming machine based on a Zen2 CPU architecture in the middle of 2026 is a horrible idea.

Avoid all available "traditional" consoles that are currently on sale.

The only thing that would make some sense is a solid deal on a used one, just don't spend your money on a new one.

No, buy a PS5 Pro if you want to play GTA6.

Xbox are the reason we're looking at a digital future, don't reward all the bullshit they have done by buying one of their shitboxes.

Its a Solid console with some great features and tech

Quick Resume
Free cloud saves
Backwards Compatability

I know the PS5 issue has hit alot of people from a digital perspective, only thing Xbox has an advantage is that area is you can buy cheap game keys from key sites and also their customer service for refunds on digital items is really good in comparison.

I main a PS5 Pro and only reason I havn't switch is cause of PSSR and my games look better in general (including framerates) but i've found my Series X has better VRR and HDR aswell

Personal preference

No, they're not.

Yes they literally are, Gamepass meant sales on Xbox tanked, supermarkets stopped stocking physical games, there's nowhere to even buy Physical games these days, the only high street stores stocking physical games is places like CEX and that's not any good for the games market.

I know it seems like an obvious no, but I have no console and I don't want t to support Sony anymore. The only other choice I would have is the Switch 2. I can't afford some pricey gaming laptop either unless someone wants to link me to a fairly affordable one. But yeah, I want that white Series X. I mainly want a way other than PS5 to play GTA6 and PC like GamePass right now and the ability to buy games and play them in the loud. If only GTA6 could be playable in the cloud. 😞
How about the handheld and then helix? cause you won't abandon Steam this way. I know MS is working hard to make it right.

So you want to stop supporting Sony when you do not have a Sony console and want to support the Xbox, who hasn't released a physical game in years... fine. But my recommendation is to save and get a good PC
