It´s quite dificult to come up with data, apparently. But considering the total number of sold consoles, I would argue that some people picked up a third party game here and there.
Can only talk for myself, but most of my library are non-Nintendo games.
Those numbers are waaay off, In Japan Minecraft is over 4 million, physical alone.

The Hitman collection that was announced yesterday has no Switch version currently.
No but I meant the old Hitman game on Switch, and I had a look and it was Hitman: Absolution, which will get a Switch 2 upgrade - different from the remaster collection

Another odd one is Onimusha: Way of the Sword because Capcom have announced Veronica will be on the Switch 2, so why not Onimusha?

This is a weird omission, since it seems like Capcom is otherwise fully committed to day-and-date releases on Switch 2. Surely Onimusha can't be harder to get running on the platform than Monster Hunter Wilds.

My only guess is maybe they know they can't get it optimized in time to release alongside other platforms and don't want to say "Switch 2 version coming on 2027" out of fear that it will dampen their initial sales on other platforms in Japan.

Exactly. If Capcom can get MH, R9 and the new Veronica on Switch 2, then why not Onimusha?

I now not many people care, but Boltgun 2 is also an odd one. The first one released on the og Switch, so why the sequel isn't coming to the Switch 2 is beyond me. Maybe they don't have a dev kit yet?

Probably, but Capcom can get RE9 optimised and released on Switch 2 with other platforms.

And while I'm on my soap box, Microsoft really needs to port AoE 2 to the Switch 2. Would be perfect with the mouse function 👌

This is strange, especially given that Onimusha also runs on the RE engine. With Monster Hunter Wilds, it's pretty clear that title is arriving so late on Switch 2 because of all the optimization that's going to be needed to get the game running acceptably. I don't see why this would be the case with Onimusha though, which doesn't seem like it would be much more ambitious than RE9. Maybe they have a deal with Nintendo to announce it in a Direct? That was clearly the case with RE9, which announced for other platforms a SGF last year, but didn't get confirmed for Switch 2 until Nintendo's September Direct.

I hope so!

The next direct, whenever that is, needs to come with some killer third party titles.

Of course I'm looking forward to seeing what Nintendo has in store on the first party front. That rumoured OoT remake, next 3D Mario etc, but I also want to see some more amazing third party support.

I totally agree. One of my biggest disappointments with the September Direct was that, aside from the RE9 bombshell, most of the third party announcements were the usual smaller indie/Japanese titles that you would expect from the Switch 1 Era.

This is especially bewildering in retrospect, given how many major titles have been announced for the system since then at other showcases and through random twitter drops.

Well, now we know that Capcom and Square are both all-in on day one multiplatform releases for the Switch 2.

Did any AAA multiplat launch day-and-date on the Switch 1? I know that Doom Eternal was planned to, but it got delayed.

Either way, this is a huge change from last gen.

Persona 4 Revival more your thing? Also not coming. There are plenty if you care to look.

No but I am willing to bet it does release on switch 2 as they ported all the other ones.

Like Castlevania: Belmont's Curse wasn't on the video but has been confirmed to be coming to switch 2 in month or 2 after launching on other platforms.

Going by what's announced. Didn't say it never will if they decide to later down the line. It just isn't coming right now based on concrete information.

It's easy to assume all future Persona project will appear on Switch 2 considering Persona 3 Portable, Persona 4 Golden, Persona 3 Reload, Persona 5 Royale, Persona 5 Strikers, and Persona 5 Tactica have all found their way Switch/S2. And that's setting aside SMTIII, two version sof SMTV, and the recently announced Metaphor Refantazio port.

Switch 2 might not get every 3rd party release, but they are closing that gap and are seeing more and more games be day-and-date (look at Capcom's output).

With Belmonts Curse it wasn't in the vid because all the other platforms have a set release date while Switch 2 version doesn't. Persona might come too but they haven't committed to anything for Switch at all yet.

Atlus announced Metaphor for the Switch 2 in this Direct and Persona 3 in the last one. Their announcement strategy is clear now: They want each release to get maximum exposure before they announce the next one.

Persona 4 is absolutely coming. The only question is whether it's day and date with other versions. And, like I said in my last post, if day one third party releases is the standard you want to use, then the Switch 2 is already annihilating its predecessor, with or without Persona.

This, Is pretty clear that third parties are dosing their releases on Switch 2.

Fair enough but only because its prededecessor was disastrous with third party support. This is just less bad but still being skipped a lot. It's not just Hitman, if you want to go on hypotheticals then that may come too but based on confirmed commitments there's nothing concrete right now.

The Mortal Kombat games did. But other than sports games, those two are the only ones I am aware of. So yeah, Capcom in this year alone has three (RE, Pragmata, Onimusha). A massive improvement.

Although admittedly, day-and-date may still be a bit of a problem for the Switch 2; it's obvious that porting is not trivial (especially for Unreal 5). Both Lego Batman and 007 were supposed to launch simultaneously but got delayed. Lords of the Fallen 2 also sounds like it won't release simultaneously; it got a 2026 release date for the other consoles but just a "coming soon" for Switch. I trust RE Veronica and FF7-3 will be fine, so it looks like Tomb Raider and Wo Long 2 are the next real tests for the system. If those two both arrive simultaneously, then it bodes well for the future.

But even ignoring day-and-date, how many "impossible ports" (PS4-gen only AAA games) did the Switch get? Less than 10? The Switch 2 has got to be close to or surpassed it already. Besides GTA6 and Witcher 4, are there any games that truly seem like impossible ports anymore? People said Monster Hunter/Dragon's Dogma would be a few years ago, but here we are. Would people say Stellar Blade 2 is an impossible port now knowing that the first game is coming? Some people tried claiming that the window for Switch 2 ports would close rapidly as developers dropped PS4-era technology from their pipelines and embraced PS6-era. But given that the Switch 2 seems to be able to handle PS5-era just fine and there's no way anyone's going PS6-era exclusive for a good 5+ years, there seems to be no technical reason Switch 2 can't handle the games. So it just depends on the cost and how easy/willing developers are to add it to their pipelines. Obviously Capcom/Square are all in, but the random smaller publishers taking a chance like Bloober and CI games is good news.

You can do console warring list battles all you want, but it doesn't matter. PS4 did not get the same level of indie support that the Switch had. Do you care? Probably not. At some point a library becomes good enough that it doesn't matter how many games skip it because there are already more games you want to play than you have time to. Maybe the Switch 2 hasn't reached that threshold for you given the type of games you like to play. Sorry to hear that. But it is undeniably the best major third party support on a Nintendo console since the GC and almost certainly since the SNES. For many many many people, it is good enough. And coming in and shouting that game X and Y aren't present doesn't mean a thing for said people.

Oh right, I totally forgot about that. The Mortal Kombat games are actually a great point of comparison. Remember how badly the Switch port of Mortal Kombat 11 got dunked on? Now compare that to Resident Evil 9.

Although admittedly, day-and-date may still be a bit of a problem for the Switch 2; it's obvious that porting is not trivial (especially for Unreal 5).

I strongly agree with everything you said in your post, and this is a particularly good point. It's clear that some engines (like the RE Engine) play nice with the Switch 2 (or have already been optimized for hardware), whereas others are going to take more time and optimization. It seems like UE5 has already come a long way if you compare the first wave of ports to today, but it'll probably take a couple of years before Switch 2 development is fully optimized and we're definitely going to see plenty of late ports and some games skipping the platform in the interim.

I'm not doing list battles though. Somebody made it out like hitman is all that's missing for third party publisher support. I just said that's not really true and that third party publisher support is still fairly anaemic on it. That's not warring just because you disagree. As for indies I can't say I felt that at all with PS4. I remember the thing was being called indiestation most of the time, because it was getting a lot of indie games (The Witness, Hotline Miami, Superhot, Binding of Isaac, etc). Games that came late to switch or not at all. The switch certainly was still a good indie games machine though especially on the go.

Certainly agree that it's got a lot better than the original Switch and I'm still interested in just upgrading my original Switch even if it's not specifically for third party support. I was drowning in games regardless, even before this gen (PS5/Switch 2).
