Its my mistake to praise Rockstar. All western publishers (Ubisoft, EA, Microsoft, Rockstar) are doing this. Not just 1st party. Plenty of 3rd party games require no day 1 patch. This includes most JRPGS and even some western publishers like Rockstar (not the online portion ofcourse). A lot of games can be played without day 1 patch. I am not really interested in whatever companies like Ubisoft and ActiBliz make anyway.
Spoilers is probably the least of their worries. Its obvious they don't want spoilers out there beforehand
they also dont want you selling your copy and cannabalizing another sale
Lol NO.... Now the Game Key cards and game key discs are looking like amazing deals compared to codes in a box...I'm sure the people whining about game-key cards will totally complain about this too, right?
The Game Key Cards are for these greedy western publishers. Nintendo's own 1st party (except for Pokemon since its not completely owned by Nintendo) always contain the full game on the cartridge and require no day 1 patch.I'm sure the people whining about game-key cards will totally complain about this too, right?
I don't think this will become a trend. Not every game is GTA 6. Rockstar could sell GTA 6 in a box of shit, and people would still buy it.
This is simply the result of GTA VI being the biggest entertainment product ever made.
I'm sure the people whining about game-key cards will totally complain about this too, right?
There's no other publisher in the world with a game like GTA VI in its catalog. They can try, but any other game would be heavily criticized, and citing GTA VI as an example is pointless. Not every game is GTA VI.But they are trend setters. And you can bet most CEOs in the industry are going to follow along. And any time anyone criticizes the move, they will point to GTA6.
Pc players be like dawg, i dont have a single disk since shit knows how many years

Titty wall
It was never about convenience at least not for devs/pubs.Digital is not about our convenience anymore, it's about controlling what consumers do.
Most Japanese games contain the full game on disc and don't need day 1 patch. All Nintendo (except for Pokemon, but they don't fully own it) and Sony 1st party single player games are playable from the physical copy without day 1 patch. Its just western publishers like EA, Ubisoft, Microsoft, Warner Bros (funny that they talk about importance of Physical media in movies) and now Rockstar who do this.Isn't that the road the industry took for a couple of years now?
Yup. Corporate data centers running 24/7 are great for the environment compared to a little bit of plastic /sRockstar single handedly saved global climate change
