Workplace misconduct isn’t new in any field, but over the years, the gaming industry’s dark history of sexual misbehavior has come to light, and these exposés doesn’t seem to be stopping anytime soon. This time around, it’s a bunch of Electronic Arts (EA) senior devs that are at the center of the storm.
Former Call of Duty dev and now studio boss at Midnight Society Robert Bowling has called out and named people that have allegedly conducted themselves inappropriately towards female co-workers.
According to Bowling, over the previous 2.5 months, EA has conducted an internal sexual misconduct investigation into Dev Director of Plants vs. Zombies Jordan Adams, and Director Partnerships at EAX Matthew Angeleri.
So just what did these two people do to warrant an investigation? Apparently, Jordan Adams video called his female coworkers and proceeded to perform lewd acts on himself. Adams would also send female coworkers pornographic videos and even reference them in EA Slack conversations.
As for Matthew Angeleri, he invited his female coworkers to stay at his home with his wife while visiting Vegas where they were given free room and lodging. While that seemed like an act of goodwill, Angeleri privately sexually harassed said female coworkers and even followed it up with videos of himself having lewd acts performed on himself.
For reference, Bowling is the partner of one of the victims and even a witness to the evidence, even stating that he has a picture of Adams’ genitalia on their iPad.
We followed up with Bowling to get a little bit more information to see how things were being handled now that the investigation is over at EA. Despite no one denying that any of the mentioned things by Bowling, it seems that according to EA, given the events transpired outside of work between two adults, and the fact that once investigation has started that the alleged perpetrators didn’t do it again, the investigation is considered closed.
Here’s the messed up part: the victim still has to work with the people that harassed her. Bowling’s follow up message to us adds that one of the victim’s manager has been amazing, taking on extra work so that she no longer has to interact with Mathew, responding on her behalf when needed.
Regardless of the field you’re in, sexual misconduct and harassment have no space in the workplace. We’ve contacted EA for a comment on this investigation, and will update if we hear anything back.
