PS 5 production started in spring 2019.
The earliest retail production units were made in May.
So after more than 1 year Sony expect to break even on manufacturing costs for the regular PS5 at $499
This makes sense as RAM and 7NM wafers get cheaper (more and more mobile smartphone SOCs go to 5nm now)
Please remember this is only on a GOG basis and not GOGS.
So shipping, marketing, and all other sales expenses are still not recovered.
The PS5 DE is still a huge loss leader.
I'm surprised by the spike in expenses in early 2021. Maybe that's a reason for way less supply in the April to June quarter so far. The drop also seems to be very steep. Might be overly optimistic from Sony. It's still just an estimate and anticipation.
PS4 on the other hand was faster to being profitable.
Including the ~20% DE sold, total Hardware profitability on a GOGS basis shouldn't be achieved before mid to late 2022.
