You would be my hero for life if you kept this look until Halloween and went as Mihawk from One Piece:

Oh wow, good eyes with Mihawk there. :lol

J.M. Romeo, your girl is hot. I'm envious.

OK, here's me; please excuse my haircut... living in Japan tends to change one's perception of of coolness. And as you can see here, I seem to have ended up looking like a badly drawn anime character.

Nope. Spanish. I thought the "truckers' strike in Spain" part gave it up a little. We are in Zaragoza at the moment. There is an international expo of whatever, so if any gaffer is coming, feel free to post it. We can take you out in this city, ooh yeah.
Oh, you're actually spanish? I thought y'all were there just temporarily. I want to go to Spain!

I used Arial.
Are you sure?

fonts.jpg

Notice the gentle, less-curvy "y" descender in Myriad Pro and what you've made. Then look at the "g" descender without the big curl that's in Arial, the less rounded "s" and "c," or the left-balanced "t" without the tell-tale slant that Arial has on the top. It really looks to me like Myriad Pro (which is one of my favorite fonts, but it doesn't really fit here), but if it's not, it sure isn't Arial.

Regardless, never use Arial. It's the most balls-less of all sans-serif fonts. It's a weak, uninspired version of Helvetica made popular by Microsoft so they could include it in Windows without having to pay the license for Helvetica.

Also, I'm not too sure what you're saying, because I don't really know a lot about typography. I've only just completed my first semester of my design course, and that picture was the 2nd time I've used photoshop, which I only learned a few weeks back for a project.

We'll be learning typography in detail next semester, which I'm looking forward to.

Can you explain the geometric font thing? I found out what humanist fonts are, but couldn't find anything on geometric. :P
That's pretty solid for 2nd ever Photoshop work.

Typography is king. You can have beautiful designs without doing anything but choosing the perfect font, size, color, kern, and sticking to a nice grid.

Wikipedia has a simple classification section on sans-serif fonts: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sans_serif#Classification. You'll learn to find the best type for any situation. Generally, humanist or grotesque fonts are best for content (like a Word document), and geometric fonts are best used for headers and large bits of text as the fonts are very strong and consistent. That same strength and consistency makes the geometric fonts hard to read in body text.

You may also be interested in things like Brand New where they dissect company logos. You can get a good feel for what fonts work and what don't for specific situations.

I hate to say it but you look like a mess :S

marvelharvey you look so different I can't even remember what you used to look like (although I remember motorcycles)

got to be frank - not a good haircut

This pic is EXCELLENT. While it may not have the greatest quality, it really shows what happiness is. Well done!

I looked through my whole Font book after your first post hehe. I must agree with you on the small type, but the capitals do seem to be arial. Look at the M, the Myriad M widens at the bottom, the arial one doesn't.

No, I see that that part is Arial. The start of this discussion is buried pages back when I mentioned the font in the "I like..." part. I think temjin might also be thinking I was originally talking about the bigger font.

I'd hit it.

while we're on the subject of nitpicking that photoshop...

you should never do something like this by hand/eye:

I'm a little late to the party, but someone who recently posted in this thread is way too hot to handle. :lol

Makes me almost want to start posting pictures. But then I'd have to stop reading gaf at work. :(

Old-ish picture with the dirty mop. I have much shorter hair now. Maybe I'll get a picture this weekend.

(Can't see it in the picture, thanks to compression, but it was taken on my buddies SWEET DSLR with his zoom lens.)

What the fuck.

I scrolled down and thought someone had posted a pic of me, with different glasses.

Weird.

:lol If my haircut hadn't caused a stir, I would have been disappointed. Just remember I live in Japan, the girls over here love that shit. I would NEVER EVER NEVER FOREVER wear that style outside the Japanese archipelago.

However, I'll be shaving it all off on Monday, the humid summer has arrived in Osaka and even though my hair may resemble a heatsink, it certainly doesn't function as one.

<- my shorter style (not that you can see it too well in the .gif)

That thing that his gf does isn't that hard. I can do it. But I'm not gonna bother posting a pic of it because I'm not a cute girl.

(and my camera is broken)

You really should post pictures. No one here is going to judge you. This is just for fun and if anyone says something mean it's likely because they're insecure.

I was tempted to post a turkey (bird) comparison pic several times. good to hear you cut it.

Awesome. Thanks for the responses (to the other guys nit picking my photo too :lol) appreciate it.

The smaller font is Myriad btw, with the title font as Arial :P

All of you typography experts make me jealous.
