Now that it is complete, I feel like it's worth shouting out a pretty good podcast that I enjoyed listening to.

The Chapter Titles Were So Good is a podcast where some dudes discuss the Harry Potter book series, one chapter at a time. They don't take things too seriously and joke around a lot, but they also aren't afraid to take a deep dive into the lore if necessary. I found it to be a pretty fun companion while I was listening to the HP audiobooks recently, just listening to a chapter, followed by their discussion of the chapter, and so on. I recommend HP fans to check it out at least whether or not you are reading/listening along with them as they discuss some pretty fun stuff throughout the course of the seven books.
Also, they have a handy archive page that has all of the episodes for each book (except the last one which they just finished a couple weeks ago) available to download in either a big .zip with all the MP3's or as an audiobook.

I'd definitely recommend this.

I think I started listening when they'd just started book 4, I never really thought they'd finish. I miss it now :(

Are there any good podcasts videos with a wide variety of people that isn't WTF, You made it Weird or Joe Rogan? I've tried them all and I usually like them for a little bit but eventually all three of them end up absolutely annoying me. All 3 seem to love talking about their-selves or their own experiences half the time more than their guests.

You Made it Weird with Pete Holmes, or maybe Gilbert Godfriend's Amazing Colossal Podcast if you want to hear about comedians/movies from yesteryear.

I listen to Joe Rogan's podcast and I feel like I know everything about him.

Unless he's on Doug Loves Movies I can not stand Pete Holmes. I've listened to his interviews a couple of times just because I was interested in the guest, but I feel he's the absolute worst in talking about himself.

Wow I downloaded that NPR One podcast app and this is probably my favorite thing they've made. So many shows I've never heard of to listen to while I'm working.

A heads-up that I just played through Little Samson (NES) for the first time for the Tardy to the Party podcast!

Just discovered this thread and added a few recommendations to Pocket Casts. My wife and I listened to Serial and loved it.

So I've listened to a good few episodes of Night Vale and really enjoying it. We listened to the first episode of The Mystery Show last night and that went down well too.

Have to add quite a few more, but if you enjoying Night Vale, you might want to check out Alice Isn't Dead (currently ongoing) and Within The Wires (starting later this month). They're new fictional podcasts from the creators of Night Vale

This thread is focused completely on fictional podcasts if you like those:

Sounds great! But the Overcast feed starts at book 5 :/

Any way to get the whole series in podcast form (not mp3s)?

Did the Podcasting OT ever get posted out of curiosity where can share our own podcasts? I'd like to get some thoughts from Gaffers :)

Unfortunately I checked some other podcast sites/apps and they also start at book 5, including iTunes.

Not sure why that is, but yeah it looks like you'd have to manually download or listen through your browser for the first four books. Probably not the easiest way to do things if you're on a mobile device, I know, but the podcast is really good lol.

I'm really enjoying Ezra Klein's interview show. So far, the episodes with Jim Yong Kim (president of World Bank) and David Chang (head of Momofuku) have been phenomenal.

Does anyone know of any podcasts that deal with mythology and the discussion of it? The closest I've found is Lore which will delve into this sort of thing from time to time.

Can anyone recommend podcasts where people talk about mental illness? I love Terrified with Dave Ross and wrestling with depression. However, they both have ended

Subscribed to none since I listen when I feel like it and usually wait until every episode about a topic is released. That said, there is only one active podcast:

Hardcore History

Apart from that, I liked to listen to the GameOne-Plauschangriff. Sadly, it is no more but almost 100 episodes around 2-3 hours long each is good enough.

That's quite a bit of podcasts you have there.

I sub to:

Gaming:
PlayStation Nation Podcast (since episode 1)
Interactive Distractions
Bombcast

Writing:
Writing Excuses

Software:
Developer Tea
Admins of Atlassian (my own)

Books/TV:
Podcast of Ice and Fire
Podcast of Interest

Automotive:
Car Talk

Blogging/Business/Financial:
Smart Passive Income

There has certainly been more that I've listened to but no longer subscribe to. I'm looking to add a few fictional podcasts to my subscription as well once I finish my current audiobook.

Mainly just various video game ones these days for me. I used to listen to some tv/book ones but they are now finished. I'll occasionally check out other podcasts here and there, but I rarely stick with them for very long.

Designer Notes
Easy Allies Podcast
Frame Trap
Giant Bombcast
Giant Beastcast
Idle Weekend
Legacy Music Hour
The Game Informer Show
Watch Out For Fireballs

Listing them all out like that makes it seem like a lot of gaming podcasts, but a few of those are bi-weekly or monthly. I'm still looking forward to a time when all the schedules align and I get that full 9 podcast week though.

I feel like I need to find more shows to listen to, but every time I try new stuff it kinda falls short of the high bar that the ones on this list meet. When I'm all caught up I usually just re-listen to old episodes of MBMBaM (even though I've listened to all 300 episodes at least twice each)

Ball Junk

Aside from those I also listen to a bunch of other ones occasionally, depending on the line-up of guests, such as Doug Loves Movies.

More people should listen to the Film Junk podcast. I can't stand overproduced film and tv review podcasts, I like mine laid back. Sean, Jay, and Frank have great rapport and hilarious arguments about all sorts of pedantic film geek minutia. They're the only film podcast I like anymore. They're the Giant Bomb of film for me(loooong episodes too).

Waaaaay too late on the reply to this one, but I'm so happy to run into someone else who listens to Film Junk. By far my favorite podcast. It's like I've grown up with these guys at this point, having been a listener since 2008.

While there's so many funny moments to choose from, my favorite is probably the very first vibecast, where Jay came out as "The Jackal".

  • Goosebuds

I'm relatively new to podcasts, so I only have:

-This American Life
-Cracked
-RadioLab
-More Perfect
-Freakonomics
-On the Media
-Hardcore History
-Common Sense
-Invisibilia

-The Arkham Sessions
-Serial
-Only Human
-Open for Business
-Paleocast (may drop it)
-StartUp (just added; have not listened yet)
-Note to Self (just added; have not listened yet)

Whenever I add something new, I tend to go through the entire backlog that's available, and if I get bored, I'll drop shows.

Looks like most of my podcasts are NPR and WNYC, too.

EDIT: I added Gastropod today.

That's remarkably similar to mine, down to having gone through my podcast list in the last month or so and culled the stuffed I never got around to.

Cross posting from another thread. Anyone have any recommendations for sci-fi / fantasy podcasts? Looking for book reviews and discussions primarily, but author interviews are cool too.

Currently listen to sword and laser but any other recs would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Hey, does anyone here have a digital recorder? I'm thinking of investing in one to make everything a bit more transportable.

I've got everything narrowed down to these recorders:
Zoom H1
Zoom H2N
Zoom H4N
Tascam DR-40

I'm leaning towards the H2n or the DR-40, since those both look great. I'd prefer to have the XLR input like the DR-40 has, but I've also seen reviews where it seems like it's not the best construction material.

Do you guys have any experience with these?

What's the best way to subscribe and keep track of your podcasts? An RSS reader of some sort? iTunes? Something else?
