PlayStation plus prices going up starting 5/20

"Ongoing market conditions" = The #omegagenre failed Marathon.

Mine expired last month and I didn't even notice but I haven't had my PS5 on since last September. Subbed continuously from launch 2010 until April 2026, doing a great job herm.

Imagine paying for services you get for free everywhere else.
It's time for EU to protect the consumers and force Sony & MS to accept third-party payments options and stores on their platforms.

Thankfully I don't play MP games and most pls+ free games are either already bought day one or had no interest playing them to begin with.

You pay considerably more for hardware on the PC side.

Nothing to see here. Sony just getting everyone used to paying through the ass for PS from here on out.

My essential expires in a couple weeks. Not planning to reup without a discount. Not worth 80 bucks a year just for cloud saves.

My PS Plus expired ages ago. I still have Game Pass because I got 3 years for really cheap. But once it runs out, I honestly don't see any reason to pay for online gaming on consoles.

Seems like their fucked up way of pushing annual subscriptions and pushing users up the tiers.
The next price increase will be some justification like "the monthly cost is $11, so $99 for the year is still a hefty discount"

Guys please understand. They have to keep Bungie and Marathon servers up. That shit costs alot, money doesn't grow on trees.

"Ongoing market conditions" means "we can raise the price because you'll keep paying."

It's hard to find a company that hates its own customers as much.

Someone actually wrote this on the other forum in a non-ironic way: "PlayStation needs their own Asha so the players can be heard and they decrease prices instead of increasing them."

Dat gaas initiative indeed must have made sony crazy money this gen, hardware under unprecedented price hikes, now psplus too, and no1 said we keep those prices till end of the gen either, durning next year and a half we might see another increase or even two, then obviously another hike alongside nextgen launch(that one i would understand if we didnt get anything till then) :messenger_astonished:

Ongoing market conditions = console sales have slowed down partly due to component prices and they have to extract profit from existing customers more to keep line going up.

Was pretty much spelled out in their recent financial reports. I believe they used the term "monetize."

12 months price not affected? Nothingburger

Why the fuck would anyone sub monthly? Are the monthly games really that good?

Some people who don't play frequently were buying monthly sub every 2 or 3 months and paying less than yearly sub in total, I guess they're closing this "loophole".

I said that Sony would do this.
I showed that Sony told investors they would do this.
And yet I still had to argue with people who said they wouldn't do this.

I think this price hike is bait. It's meant to absorb blowback. Increasing it for (just new users) and for (just 1/3 months) plan doesn't even cover 5% of PS+ users.

People will accept it because "it only covers new users", and "it only affects monthly plans, you should get annual anyway".

Eventually though Sony is just shrinking their TAM. Switch2/PC will gain on Sony making their platform leas attractive.
