Ontario wildfires surround a train

Fozzie Bear Reaction GIF

Have you been having to hack up a ton of shit out of your lungs over the last few days even staying inside with HVAC and air purifiers going? Because I have.

This is the fourth year of it happening in a row. It's easy to joke and be an asshole about it when it's not affecting your life and risking new cancers. And to that a hardy fuck you.

How dare you. I am not joking at all. You are being disingenious and a hypocrite. Don't ever talk to me again.

Calling out a bad neighbor who continues to refuse to properly maintain their property is disingenuous?

I live in a state that takes pride in its conservation efforts. There are of course bad years and weather where there's a bad fire. But after it's controlled cleanup and additional prevention are undertaken. And it doesn't become a trend.

I'm feel bad for you pal since you feel conditioned to accept a bad neighbor that's going the equivalence of letting their lawn go unkempt drawing and collecting trash creating rodent issues and terrible smells. When that happens a civilized society forces remedy at the offenders expense. And repeated infractions lead to extended measures. A simple "sorry" doesn't cut it guy. Make sense friend?

We agree. The Canadians need to stop hand waving around the fact they haven't kept up with with current needs and have reduced fire prevention efforts. This is the fourth year in a row with these issues and only now are these purchases being scheduled.

The terrible year that was 2023 should have been a wake up call to adjust course. Instead there has been an increase in land burned each year going from 2024 -> 2025 -> 2026. 33% of the US's populate is in area this year affected by this smoking creating worse air than India and China.

Land Burned
  • 2020: 218k ha
  • 2021: 4.0M ha
  • 2022: 1.5M ha
  • 2023: 17.6M ha (record)
  • 2024: 5.3M ha
  • 2025: 8.4M ha

Percentage of the US population affected by smoke

YearEstimated % of U.S. Population AffectedSeverity
2015<5%Very low
2016<5%Very low
20175–10%Low
201810–15%Moderate
201910–15%Moderate

The data shows a clear upward trend in severe smoke events, with 2025 and 2026 representing back‑to‑back years where one‑third of Americans experienced unhealthy air from Canadian wildfires.
You know it's leftists activists that star the fires right,

France is having some fire problems too. The horses are said to have come from an equestrian center near Biscarrosse, south of Bordeaux, which decided to release them after an unsuccessful evacuation attempt. 🐎

Calling out a bad neighbor who continues to refuse to properly maintain their property is disingenuous?

Because you haven't proven, a single time so far, that USA is doing any better with 10x the population and actual infrastructures of a spider-web like network of roads to reach those fires.

So yes, 100% disingenuous.

You haven't answered shit. What is the USA doing about it?

Oh look

With your country now at the worst preparedness level, level 5. Above the 10-year average and not even into the worst month, August.

After all those promises and "cleanup" in the forests? Again what are you doing? Why didn't you open the valve?

Is your state warming up 2x faster than the rest of the globe?

No?

FFS the audacity. See that daffyduck daffyduck ? Are you "soRry"?

The bad neighbor, I'll tell you about a bad neighbor, one that is in the top 3 polluters on the planet affecting the climate. One that for decades made acid rain spread through Canada, killing thousands of lakes' wildlifes and affected Europe's forests. With said current administration who dismantled all of the clean air act's legal foundation which actually curbed the acid rain in the 90's. One that is currently removing all EPA guardrails such as eliminating vehicle emissions standards and wanting more coal than ever. That neighbor that wants to gives lessons to the rest of the world as their scientific strongholds are evaporating and have a massive brain drain to other countries. Oh yea, that neighbor, like having a crackhead as next to you.

Acid rain? Welcome back to the 80s.

You're really

ing for that one.

Like most climate alarmist predictions from that era. It turned out massively overblown. Or did we all drown 25 years ago when the polar ice caps finished completely melting and flooded the world and are now living in a dream?

Of course you'd use that kind of source. More fucking quackery from my neighbor

CFACT.org (the Committee for a Constructive Tomorrow) is generally not considered a credible source for mainstream scientific information, particularly regarding climate change, because it rejects the established scientific consensus and promotes climate change skepticism.

Scientific Standing and Perspective
    • Rejection of Consensus: Mainstream scientific organizations—including NASA, the IPCC, and national academies of science worldwide—agree that human activities cause global warming. CFACT explicitly rejects this consensus.
    • Advocacy Role: CFACT functions as a free-market advocacy group and think tank rather than an independent scientific research institution.
    • Affiliated Projects: The organization sponsors Climate Depot, a prominent climate-skeptic news and commentary site run by Marc Morano.

Funding and Background
    • History: Founded in 1985, the Washington, D.C.–based nonprofit promotes free-market solutions and traditional energy industries.
    • Corporate Support: Investigative reports have documented that CFACT has historically received funding from traditional energy interests and foundations associated with conservative political funding.
CFACT is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization mostly funded through the Donor's Trust. The purpose of the Donor's Trust Fund is to "safeguard the intent of libertarian and conservative donors." In other words, it allows anti-climate change advocates to donate anonymously. In the past, CFACT received over $500,000 from Exxon-Mobil.

This is a peak moron source.

No one ever seriously thought your skin would literally melt off when touched by acid rain. The concern was about its effect on aquatic ecosystems and soil health.

Also lake don't acidify because acid rain dumps acidic water into them. They acidify because acid rain erodes the natural buffers of soil within the watershed, which takes at minimum centuries to regenerate (not 30 years).

Good old "established scientific consensus".

Did you both reading the article?

The National Acid Precipitation Assessment Program (NAPAP), a $500 million multi-year research effort, was established in the US in 1982 to study the issue. The Geneva Convention on Long-Range Transboundary Air Pollution began efforts in Europe in 1983. Acidification of lakes and destruction of forests from air pollution became a widely held belief taught in universities across the world. Acid rain became a driver of US and European efforts to reduce SO2 and NO2 emissions.

But the actual impact of acid rain was much less than feared. The 1990 NAPAP report, titled "Acidic Deposition: State of Science and Technology," concluded that "acidic deposition has not been shown to be a significant factor contributing to current forest health problems in North America," with the possible exception of the high-elevation red spruce in the northern Appalachian Mountains. Another study found that damage to Appalachian red spruce forests was caused by the conifer swift moth, not acid rain.

The NAPAP study also found that only 4.2 percent of lakes in the Eastern US were acidic, and that acidic conditions for many of these lakes were due to natural factors or surface mining runoff, not acid rain. The NAPAP study also concluded that 1990 levels of pollution-caused acid rain were not harmful to agriculture or human health.

In Europe, subsequent analysis showed German forest dieback to be due to disease, weather, and other factors, with acid rain playing an insignificant role. The great forests of Europe remain with us today.

Were you around in the 80s when the fear mongering was literally you won't be able to go outside in the rain because the acid will melt your skin?

And he doubled down above! :messenger_tears_of_joy: Again with the acid rain melting skin stupidity.

This explains so much about him. Credibility, out the window.

Except there were actual public warnings scare tactics that would melt your skin on TV, newspapers, etc.

That like the global warming alarmist predictions were of course false. But apparently some people keep falling for the same older thing retread again and again. And only idiots try randomly bringing up things like acid rain out of the blue.

Nobody but you brought that fucking nonsense about melting skin. Are you okay in the head? You can't dismiss factual documented impacts because of your tabloid trash sensationalists headlines were not true. Jesus fuck. The idiocy on display here is off the fucking charts.

Here, even US' own fucking research on the effects

How to lose all credibility in just a few short posts.

I guess I should probably buy one, too, if Toronto's gonna become another Hong Kong in July. I think I only have leftover surgical masks, which are apparently useless against smoke :pie_thinking:.

We need to start having more fun with masks in this part of the world. They can be a fashion accessory while being practical imo.

What? No lmao. No amount of beautiful women is going to make masks appealing. Gross.
