Metacritic Users Vote The Last Of Us Part II as Best Game Of The Year - **It Wasnt Even Close**

Panajev2001a

GAF's Pleasant Genius
It's the result of the game and it's crappy edgy subversion of expectations tactics.

And one of the most criticized games ever too.

Of course it will. Few games have the production values of Naughty Dog.

It works both ways, because then we have platform warriors such as yourself trying to dismiss every criticism of the game as "angry nerds angry at SJW".

The game it's fantastic in some areas, but when you do a narrative movie like game like this and turns out your script makes The Last Jedi look good in comparison and your characters are utterly uncharismatic, then you have a big problem as a videogame too.

The fact that everything is also made through the SJW propaganda lenses, doesn't make it favours neither, but it's just an addition to the problem, not the problem per se.
Exaggeration central (“makes TLJ look good by comparison)... check. Platform warrior accusation (“nobody but a platform warrior could like it [not like those SJW who are always on the offensive and offended and see things only in black and white]”)... check (note that I am not stating that if you dislike it you must be a platform warrior or bigot).

Not sure how, beyond having lesbian and transgender characters this is the same as saying “everything made under SJW propaganda lenses”. This statement seems as much propaganda, not meant to be questioned but followed (“either with us or against us” attitude), as the SJW stuff.
Yes I know about Druckman and Sarkesian, but I guess that means that liking any of Kubrick’s movies makes you a child molester or something or that anything 343i made is SJW propaganda influenced because of Bonnie Ross and since she is supported by Spencer anything MGS makes is too (which would be dumb takes). I am just not too happy when people are basically just like their “enemies” aside from the flag they wear.

Since you're so ill informed, or a dumbass, as you would put it, I will educate you. Sony has been updating the sales numbers on many of their first party games throughout the gen, especially when they have performed well against expectations. In fact, it has been doing it much more regularly in the past 3 years or so.

Killzone:SF (announced it sold 2.1M after 4 months), Bloodborne (announced it sold 1M after a month, and then 2M after 6 months), GT:Sport (announced it sold 3.3M after 6 1/2 months), God of War (announced it sold 5M after one month), Spider-Man (announced it sold 9M after two months), and more recently GoT (announced it sold 5M after 3 months.) Yet funnily enough, arguably their most hyped first party release this gen, which was the follow up to one of their most successful games on PS3, has not had a sales update since launch, almost 7 months ago. Keep in mind that GoT, which launched after TLOU2, has already had an update to sales.

Looking at Amazon sales for Nov and Dec, GoT beat it handedly with a $20 discount on BF week, and went back up to $50. TLOU2, on the other hand, has been marked off 50% since BF.
Umm no. Pretty much all of those games got mentioned one time for where their sales were at. Ghost never got an official number around launch so it came around November instead. Same goes for most of those games. They got one sales update and maybe a year or more later they got another one. Learn what the hell you're talking about.

... But there's a difference between the two sides: It's unlikely that the ones who posted negative reviews are actually going to purchase. It's almost guaranteed that those who voted positively are going buy the game.
Gonna need to see the research article where these psychological phenomenon are proved, because it sounds like tales from thin air, to me.

The reason why positive reviews months later hold more weight than the negative ones early on is because they played the game.
Sorry, but the idea that all negative opinions aren't real, and only positive opinions come from people who played the game, is nonsense. The game director said the game would be "divisive". If all negative opinions are false, and only positive opinions are real, how can the game possibly be divisive? The person who made the game disagrees with you.

The Last of Us Part II has won the vast majority of reader\player choice awards from around the world. So based on your logic, the same fans organized a plan to make sure the Last of Us Part II won these awards.
..........or maybe is not an organized attack, and it's people's game of the year.
No, you're just not applying nuance and understanding in a poor attempt to dismiss my point. We're in a thread talking about Metacritic's End of Year list - the title contains the words "It wasn't even close". This is what I'm discussing. I have no idea about the other GOTY awards and contests, nor do I care. In the context of thread, of Metacritic's End of Year list, TLOUII acquired 500% more votes this year than any winner of previous years. That reeks of coordinated action. My logic is: look at the evidence and draw a conclusion. You've yet it address it. My point has been made three times.

I think it's time for people to say that people legitimately like this game and the haters were just a small minority.
Not likely, and that kind of attitude is why there's always push back on this game. Not everyone loves, or has to love, this game. You need to accept that.
To put it into context, the first game sold around 7 million units by the end of its first year. This was on the PS3, where the install base was smaller, Naughty Dog weren't as famous as they are now, it was a brand new IP, and the game was universally acclaimed. The second game stormed out of the gates, no question, but it will likely limp to that same sold-through number after the PS5 re-release happens. On a platform with nearly 30 million more users at the time of its release, a significantly larger marketing push, the benefit of being a sequel to one the most acclaimed games of all time, and being from the torchbearer studio for Sony's platform... it should be pushing more than the 4 million and change its done. Sounds to me like not everyone was happy with the game, and the rocky word of mouth - started by the leaks - has stalled the game's momentum. It is loved by the people who love it, and they're not wrong to love a game they enjoyed. But, don't mistake the online bubble for reality; it's not universally loved, and the people who don't like it are as valid in their dislike as those who love it.

I guarantee you this game is past 7 million already on PS4. The player count was already past that over two months ago and the game sold a lot over the holiday. A lot of people picked up the original TLOU for the multiplayer as well which this game didn't have so there was always the chance this game's total sales would end up lower than the original. Now if they add MP to it that will help but I have a feeling that's going to be a separate game.

With TLOU2 I had my qualms with some of the character design and story but I agree that it's the best. Especially from a gameplay perspective. People are raving about Ghosts but it hasn't really clicked with me yet and I've played about 10 hours.

I agree, the game looks stunning and seems to play nicely. I could care less if Ellie is lesbian or not, or if there is a trans character appearing.
What turned me off was simply a few important plot points that soured the story for me. But that doesnt make the whole experience bad, or “trash”. ( i hate that these days everything that isnt good enough to some people is automatically labeled “shit”)
The only thing I really don't like is the weed scene. Other than that it's a great game with some slight pacing issues

I mean I just gave you to logic behind it. If you can't figure that out idk what to tell you. The game didn't sell 5 million yet have over 7 million players over 2 months ago. And again, it was one of the top selling PS4 games in November and when the December charts comes out it will likely be one again. Probably easily brought in another 1 million over the holiday.

I cry about SonyGaf from my chair in Redmond, WA
So that's why it's already 50% off.

It's so great that even simps who throws credit card numbers on female streamers has to been able to afford it.
(its 2021,do I have to make the spoiler as a joke or something to make people not take my post seriously?)

You were on board with the bigot sandwiches scene? The stupid Aha cover scene? The dance scene between Ellie and fat ass Dina in the late game?

Pretty much.

It's all the same future ERA users using ERA terminology to attack anybody who didn't like the game.

So Metacritic has gone out of their way to really force TLOU2 to win the "users vote", when in reality is one of the most despised games by the users.

Impressive, it's almost as if there was a narrative trying to be implemented by the media.

You are ridiculous. It's pretty clear TLOU2 was very well-liked if not LOVED by most actual gamers.

lol You didn't actually counter anything I said (because you can't), but please, cry more nerd. :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Everyone already knows how much of an emotionally unstable hypocritical poster you are. Keep projecting though, maybe someday you will convince yourself with these silly conspiracy theories you have.

Do you seriously believe that? I think the game has incredible graphics and fantastic gameplay, but the story is fucking awful and that seems to be a common criticism of the game.

My apologies if you were being sarcastic, It's hard to tell anymore with all the crazy shit I've seen on REEEEE lol

In my opinion part 2 should have strictly been about abby and her childhood with her father, growing up etc. Would have fixed a shit ton of pacing problems their games have and then the ending twist of her father dying by joels hand which sets up the third game would have been ace.
I wouldn't have minded that, honestly Ellie's stuff went on a bit long and some of it could have been cut, it didn't seem to be handled as well as Abby's content. If you had told me before I played it that I'd end up liking Abby more than Ellie after finishing the game I would have said you were crazy but after finishing it I wish we had gotten more Abby and less Ellie.

Of course I believe it. Just because you and many others had "some" issues with the game, doesn't mean it was well liked by most. Both things can be true.

it deff would have fixed the pacing problems from going through day 3 with one character then kind of restarting all over with a new character from day 1 going to 2. 3 etc.

The most telling fact is that it has a 60% completion rate. That is almost unheard for a single player game.
Got it on sale and played for a few hours. Loved it technically, but ugh.

EDIT: Accidental bump. Not 100% sure how I ended up in a months old thread jumping through the front page actually. Won't happen again.

The game is a masterpiece on every aspect except the story, and no, not because Abby or Joel. The story is trash and to me that's a problem when the main attraction of this game is the story. Shock value =/= good story.

Well I’m looking forward to playing it on PS5 this weekend. Haven’t played it yet and picked it up on Amazon cheap. I enjoyed the first game but also found it a depressing slog of a story, which I wasn’t too much of a fan of. I like the gameplay but fuck me it was drab.
