if you get out of forums, social media, toxic content creators or just dont consume more gaming news of social media, just like the more casual people does outside the bubble of the internet , you will notice, nobody cares about anything and they play games and enjoy games as always, if you keep sorrounding yourself with social media topics then you will think everything is falling and this and that and this and that, that is just not healthy at all, at least not healthy mentally

Not dead still lots of good games coming out, HOWEVER, we don't seem to get those truly top tier 10/10 type games anymore and what's far worse is the business side of gaming is so bad it has made the hobby much less enjoyable.
The memory crisis is a horrible situation for PC enthusiasts and it has affected console prices and no doubt will result in worse prices for less powerful hardware in the future- i can't imagine ps6 being a great deal when it comes out. Oh yeah Microsoft....they were so bad this gen that Xbox is in ruins and due to their decisions they've further stirred up console gaming in negative ways- subscriptions and buyouts of publishers has resulted in studios being shut down and lower quality games in general. They have pretty much handed Sony a monopoly on the standard console market.
Yet look at the amount of good games we're getting in 2026 ....everyones backlogs are filled to the brim with good stuff. I have more games than I can finish in a lifetime ....EXCEPT I have to worry that in a handful of years I'll start losing access to them because I was naiive enough to think my digital library would be safe. Due to the threat of Sony and MS removing games/shutting down stores etc these companies have the power to remove content in the most anti consumer ways and get away with it! They're completely unchecked by laws amd by gamers who will buy anything and then defend the very companies that may treat them badly in various ways...console culture is fucked up and they KNOW they can get away with a lot more than say, Steam can on PC. PC gamers that don't accept the shit I see console owners allow Sony/MS/and Nintendo get away with. Refund "policies" that don't allow actual refunds, having to pay $80a year JUST to be able to play online multiplayer?? For some reason we have this Stockholm syndrome when it comes to stuff because "it's the way it has always been".

No it's not, it's getting better, games wise with the Fallout and Witcher announcements etc, the last 5 years of games releases have been the worst, i can remember, i didn't buy any of them.
Hardware is a massive problem though, the prices have to come down or future tech will slow to an almost halt

The AAA suits successfully "suffocated" those vibes in the never-ending pursuit of increasing their bottom line.
Folks like Guillemot couldn't care less about games and how gamers perceive them. Seek and find your enjoyment in alternative venues. People still make genuine cool and heartfelt shit out there. AAA has ceased to care about doing that.

I think once next gen arrives and we start seeing some numbers of what's sold and not, then we may have an idea. At this trajectory with the prices its definitely on its way to its death, I don't see developers prioritize next gen if a lot of people don't move over due to the absurd potential prices.

Lots of bad games coming out, just awful slop. The industry was more exciting a decade ago, but it isn't coming back with these studios.
There are still a few amazing games coming out, but it's rare. Just wait for the most pristine, perfect final version of what you wanted as a kid. An incredible looking racing game or replayable shooter. Then stop getting invested in anything else.

Certainly not dead. We are definitely entering an extended period of AAA stagnation though. Lots of instability in the major platforms, mixed with the hardware situation.
