Infamous: Second Son Review Thread

Thank you. This same argument can be said about AC however that is looked as A-tier despite not being all the different after 7+ games. A new one is coming out and I bet you any money, that will also be the same exact thing. If anything the story carries the franchise and gameplay barely ever does.

Yeah it's interesting to watch a game like AC get great scores but see Infamous get docked because not nextgen enough and same ol open world stuff with nothing innovative.

I guess ill judge for myself tomorrow

So judging from the posted review scores is the game good or bad?

Yo man, you stole my avatar...

But seriously, did you like previous Infamous games or games of this genre (open-world superhero games)? Then you'll like this.

If you love infamous great game. If you don't love infamous it is a pretty game with repetitive game play and missions. So like the first 2 either you love it or hate it kind of thing.

Seems to be a common theme with Sony PS4 exclusives.

Maybe my expectations were low but the games is getting excellent scores from a majority of the reviews. I'm actually pretty hyped to play this now whereas before I was only getting it because I hadn't bought a new PS4 game since launch.

Probably all over the place. What I am getting from review scores is that if you are a fan of the previous infamous games you will love this entry into the series but if you are used to other open world games especially ones way more ambitious like GTA5 you probably wont have a good time.

well if they pass that means they are qualified so.. yes.

Well at least you are consistent and I thank you for being willing to go to those doctors who only got 50% because that means that you won't be holding me up when I go to the 90% doctors.

Yes, because how good they are as a doctor has little to do with how highly they score in tests. Irrelevant anyway.

Good point. You have convinced me. Let's do away with testing all together. All you have to do is say you are a doctor, and BAMM!!!! You're a doctor.

People are NUTS. 81 is a great score. If you like Infamous, you'll like this game. If you don't, you won't like it. It's as easy as that.

I think that's fair to say. I've always looked at scores like...<60 avoid. 70s play if you like that series. 80s you'll like it if you like that genre. 90s should play even if you're not a fan of the series or genre.

I personally can't wait.

Well 2 points AC is a cross gen game so does not have the same expectations. Second I hate AC clunky horrible game play. But they have at least tried to introduce new play mechanics like the ship to ship battles from what I read about it.

I always take reviews with a tablespoon of salt anyway, but I'm gonna love this game.

It is one of, if not the prettiest game I've ever seen, and I will have tons of fun with it. Can't wait to get into it.

Edit:Now on to not reading any of these reviews to prevent spoilers.

There are plenty of folks that were not fans of the first 2 that will purchase SS... So all of that nonsense about those not liking the previous 2 should pass is BS...

People need to chill. Sessler is just a guy on Youtube, one of many, and his opinion is not more important than yours unless you trust him. I, personally, don't.

I just got the game today and it is so far the best Infamous game. By a wide margin. The graphics are amazing and gameplay is smooth with nary a visual glitch. If you like Infamous, you should get it.

As for those who never played Infamous, this is still an incredible game. Most reviewers lower the score for lack of innovation, but just from my time with the game, the city traversal, the combat fluidity feel very new. There are things that I don't want to spoil which would be impossible to perform on last-gen console, and I'm not even talking about hero powers.

For me, the polish, the graphics, fluidity, city destruction and the whole experience taken together, make this game next gen. If you were to put this on PS3, you'd need to sacrifice gameplay and I don't understand how that is escaping certain reviewers.
I'm curious what the next generation innovations are so please do spoil it for me. Spoiler tag or pm me. I'd honestly like to know.

I am stoked that this is being received well; to be honest I was expecting a subpar product but I am happy to be wrong and can't wait to download tonight.

Edit: Quick Question: I platinumed Infamous 1 but never played 2. Will there be a recap of sorts? Should I play infamous 2 first?
The devs said the game wont have a recap.

You should play IF2.

I think 81 is actually a good score. That is, until you look at other titles. NFS rivals is like 80 and AC IV is like 84? I:SS boasts better visuals than both, but might lose out to AC's framerate, so that scale is still ok. AC has the most same-old-same-old hand2hand combat though. The naval battles probably helped in that category.

I:SS should really be closer, if not better than AC IV that it is to NFS rivals

Was gonna write about titanfall, but decided to avoid that trap lol

How, is it different from the previous Infamous games? New or more innovative than other open world superhero games like Crackdown, Batman Arkham City, Saint's Row 4, or Prototype?

The vent jumps look like they forego the need for any platforming, are they frequent? Honestly, haven't seen any climbing.

So. Is this a good summary?

Small sites love it, fans seem to be buzzing, and the bigger sites are dinging it, a sonys game, hypocritically again (because they know they can get away with it).

So, just another "average" sony franchise that will sell 2-3 million? Same thing happened with killzone.

Yes, because that is exactly what I said. You got my point entirely.

24 years isn't young.

Like I said, Halo was the first that played great. The others were passable.

Innovative I agree. Halo was innovative. It made an existing genre, better.

Revolutionary? No. Doom was revolutionary. Not Halo.

Unreal tournament and Quake played fine. Halo really wasn't innovative. It was fun, but not overly innovative. Halo is basically Marathon 2.0. Another good game by Bungie, but much older. It played fine as well.

Wow.

Does not sound accurate to me.

Why would you want to manually climb when you have superpowers X.X

If you really wanted to, yes you can climb slowly. Traversal by powers really depends on what your power is.

Wow, this is getting some terrific reviews! Wish I had a PS4. Can't wait to watch the quicklook.

wow you have a problem...

if a doctor got %50 in their test, they PASSED and are considered capeable of the level of care and knowledge to diagnose and treat their patients. however due to their score they may only be able to become a GP while people with higher test scores could go on to become specialist doctors, surgeons or they could help develop new treatments. but the fact remains that the person that got %50 is a fully qualified doctor.

...

oookay.

It just seems so strange to me for it to average on a whole lower than the other two games if it's the best in the series.

Whatever, I just need to get my hands on it asap.

Dat salt, every game needs to be next gen GOTY? how is Ryse, dead rising, Fighter within (More kinect embarassment) Crackdown, etc...? Salty over ps4 dominating the sales charts?

So you'd be ok with going to a doctor who only passed his exams with a 46% rating? After all that'd be about average to you.

Depends how desperate I was to see a doctor. Ideally, I'd like to see a doctor who got 100%. After all, what happens if my ailment falls in the 30% of content he didn't grade on?

Likewise, if I wanted a video game, ideally I'm going to go for one that's of the highest quality. But if there's nothing new out and I want something to play, I'll happily check out the more "average" titles. Besides, it's all subjective anyway. I quite enjoyed Golden Axe: Beast Rider.

The whole argument you're making is silly anyway, Reviews are subjective critique. American testing if usually multi-choice and short answer questions of fact retrieval. Apples and oranges.

And nobody died from playing a bad video game.
