I'm almost feeling like GTA VI, the most important game of the century, going all digital will be GameStop's death knell.

The next generation of consoles are most likely focusing on digital , streaming , and there's controversy on used games.

Do you think Gamestop will be going out in next five years or will they find new ways to adapt and thrive? What do you think?

Probably 4-6 years, 10 at the very most.

They bring no real value to the market place if you have a retro store near you, and they've done nothing substantial to involve themselves in limited run games market that will keep physical alive.

They already mainly sell nerd chachkies for tourists that this point. Just last month the Gamestop near me closed down, as did the other one that was the 2nd closest in the mall.

They could make some ground selling used consoles if people really struggle to buy new ones at these crazy prices. Used consoles should be increasing in value as we face shortages. Maybe they expand other used electronics

It's hard to predict, especially lately. The recent NAND crisis is helping their video game business. Given hardware price increases and this increased pivot to digital storefronts, there is definitely an opportunity for Gamestop in the retro market (and as a card/novelties shop as they've been capitalizing on the past several years). They did dip their toes into the PC gaming scene, but this might be one of the worst times to rely on that as an income stream. I don't see much of a future as a middleman retailer in the gaming industry.

Will it be the Gamestop we've known? No. I do think Gamestop will live on for a while though, likely winding down operations at many locations and continuing to pivot as a third space for nerd culture. There are plenty of mom & pop shops like this, but Gamestop can take advantage of their scale and infrastructure.

Yes. Best Buy sells them as well. Every week I see the same scalpers lined up outside of both stores, sitting in camping chairs waiting to buy Pokémon cards. It's bizarre to me.

But beyond that, I believe GameStop has grading services and buys/sells valuables.

Depends.

If they stick with video games then they're cooked.

If they pivot to board games, miniature games, pen and paper RPGs, card games etc then they might survive.

They should turn themselves into a Spencers.

Erotic manga and shit in the back.

They're already halfway there.
There are a crazy amount of women into those freaky werewolves getting pegged in the ass type novels. Get them and lonely male gamers in a room together and we will quickly solve the incel epidemic.

They'll find another scam once the tcg reselling fad dies down. They have a continuous supply of ignorant young people to rip off every year.

Weird to see that EB Games is thriving in Canada and they now are opening e-sports specialty stores, while GameStop is struggling so much.

I don't know how viable it is, but it'd be nice if Gamestop had a variety of retro games and consoles, and also controllers, joysticks, cables, converters, SD cards, modern handhelds, screen protectors, cases, etc.

It's kind of annoying to always have to rely on a Best Buy, Walmart, or Amazon for niche stuff.

Scalpers aren't buying cards at Gamestop, Gamestop scalps cards. Best Buy is the only place that sells them at MSRP and they have strict limits. Most of the people in those lines are not scalpers either. The scalpers wait all day in Target and Walmarts for restocks and take all the good stuff. Regular people like me buying cards for our kids get the scraps.
