Half Year Mark - GOTY

Crimson Desert. Forza Horizon 6 is very good but it's really just more Forza Horizon. And considering I only play on PC, I don't see anything dethroning Crimson Desert for my own GOTY.

RE9, no contest. I 100% completed it and the challenges.

Crimson Desert gets an honorable mention, being the best 6/10 game ever made.

Remember Fox when I told you that we should always try to be objective and not try to be fanboys ?
Well...look at how the Crimson Desert army will come at you now,
You feel me ? 😉

Imagine a - literally unfinished - game that's getting patched every day be considered "one of the best of 2026" just to stick it to the "man" (Western devs in this case) - probably by the same people that find Stellar Blade 2 oversexualized...double standards and all that, eh ?
------------------------------
Anyway, personally, I can't give it to RE Requiem due to the ugly, almost unfinished Racoon city parts AND the heavy use of AI (texts/billboards etc are a jumbled AI mess), Crimson Desert is a big no-no slop so, I'll have to give it to Pragmata so far since it feels fresh, or rather, a "back to PS2 era" game (which is a good thing in this case considering the slop of these past years).

Pretty sure that come October, Phantom blade 0 will take that spot since it really looks like a sleeper hit and something special.

Haven't really played much from this year beyond delving into Forza Horizon 6 and dabbling in No Rest for the Wicked. I could see v1 No Rest for the Wicked being a GOTY contender for me though.

Backlog takes precedence, but I'll play Pragmata, Crimson Desert, 007 First Light, MOUSE: P.I. For Hire, and Mina the Hollower later this year. RE9 I'll wait longer on since I'm less into horror games, but I'll play Beast of Reincarnation, Denshattack & Gears of War E-Day through GamePass later. Dreadmoor, Star Wars Zero Company, Castlevania: Belmont's Curse and Wanderburg I might try, or pick up early next year.

Said nobody ever

I don't know man, I am not getting great vibes out of the stuff that has come out this year. I played through Pragmata which was good but hardly game of the year material.

I'm glad people like Crimson Desert or whatever but even the people who praise it admit it's heavily flawed and rough.

Crimson Desert
Requiem
Gothic 1 Remake

Order may change since I am only 15-20 hours into Gothic. Got distracted with Undisputed which is a lot of fun.

Current shortlist for me in no particular order:
- Raccoin
- Marathon
- 007 First Light

Was rather disappointed with RE9 and had expected that to be my goty. I wanted them to do so much more with Leon and returning to Raccoon City.

Goblin Nest on Steam

I just realized I haven't bought a single AAA game this year so far. 2026 has been SLOW for me.

It's going to be GTA 6 in the end anyway, but, even though i haven't got it yet, i would choose Crimson Desert, selling 6 million copies nowadays is impressive

Crimson Desert by such a large margin. My game of the generation so far and with the way things are going, I doubt it will be topped.

I pratically never play recent games, so my GOTY is always something from the past.
Best game so far was maybe The Ascent, which wasn't even a proper great game. I hope I play an actually fresh and thrilling game in the coming months. Played too many just okay or bad games so far.

I personally had the most fun with NiOh3 this year and I know I´ll put many more hours into it once all the DLCs are there.

At this point my guess at VGA nominees:

RESIDENT EVIL REQUIEM (Locked imo)
007 FIRST LIGHT (Probably wont make it)
CRIMSON DESERT (Nom for the hardcore)
POKOPIA (Nintendo/ cosy nom)
PRAGMATA (Outside chance)
FORZA HORIZON 6 (Its very different from the other games and the series gets good scores)

Literally nothing so far. Some good releases coming later this year however

Order of the Sinking Star
Star Wars: Zero company
Path of Exile 2 1.0
also, the obvious game everyone's talking about

From the games released in 2027 I only bought RE9, Pragmata und 007. Latter I have not completed yet, so the choice is between RE9 and Pragmata and RE9 wins.

However, the best game I have played this year is No Rest for the Wicked Early Access and I'm quite looking forward to it release at the end of the year. May be my GOTY at the end.

Probably RE9, but there's way too many great-looking games due to be released between now and then for it to hold onto that at the end of the year.
