Talk about hyperbole and concern. One studio out of 21 is doing some licensed stuff and we start seeing comments like these. That poster calling Sony the Disney of video games was spot on.
so? it doesn't disprove my statement. You act like they're making nothing. So far, Insomniac is the only Sony studio delivering content at a steady rate. Everyone else is either cancelling projects or have games years out with no news to show yet.
One of the few major studios doing so, to be fair.So far, Insomniac is the only Sony studio delivering content at a steady rate.
It's interesting that Marvel wants so much of that bundle revenue*.
Looks like this Roadmap is outdated but the license terms are still interesting
So it looks like they do have a sales goal in those contracts, I'd imagine it's a similar contract for every Marvel game.

If it is just a "revenue" goal, there is a theoretical possibility that Xbox sells however many copies they can sell of Indiana Jones/Blade across Xbox and PC, and then Xbox pitches in with the rest of the money. So it looks like they do have a sales goal in those contracts, I'd imagine it's a similar contract for every Marvel game.
Wonder if the Xbox contract also has a sales goal or instead has a players goal for Blade.

As if Ubisoft isn't doing Avatar and Star Wars, EA isn't doing Iron Man and Black Panther, and Xbox isn't doing Indiana Jones and Blade.
It's not like Insomniac was doing much of consequence. Their most inventive title sans Spider-Man was Sunset Overdrive. Before that, they were spamming Ratchet And Clank. Going by the sales figures of Rift Apart, they've successfully run that into the ground. That's a whole lotta capeshit.
it has to be. unless sales don't matter TM.So it looks like they do have a sales goal in those contracts, I'd imagine it's a similar contract for every Marvel game.

*35-50%
That sells 20 million+ copies and scores in the 90s.
Critically and commercially successful.
The general public will forget you exist unless you make an effort to show them what is coming next. Sony's lack of showcase events has been extremely detrimental in this regard.so? it doesn't disprove my statement. You act like they're making nothing.

There are plenty of original ideas in these games though.Yes it will rake in the dough, but at the expense of new and original ideas, worlds, stories, characters etc... The super hero junk has been beaten to death in the comics and cinema and now Insomniac can be the next factory for it.

Watching the Game Awards, we saw a lot of new IP. Was much of it really exciting to you?Yes it will rake in the dough, but at the expense of new and original ips, worlds, stories, characters etc... Either way, just because they're not showing it doesn't mean they don't exist. You're changing the subject, ultimately that disney statement was false. The general public will forget you exist unless you make an effort to show them what is coming next. Sony's lack of showcase events has been extremely detrimental in this regard.
capeshit.
Gaming, in particular, has a pretty sparse presence of superhero games. It's not common. The market is already over saturated with this shit. It's a dying trend, which Sony seems to be trying to play catch up with when the time has already come and passed. Make new IPs, invest in creativity, like they used to do.
that's the venom gameAnother take I get from this is that there will be no Spider-Man 2 DLC?
Meanwhile, out there in reality:The market is already over saturated with this shit. It's a dying trend, which Sony seems to be trying to play catch up with when the time has already come and passed. Make new IPs, invest in creativity, like they used to do.

You don't look at the news very often, do you?Tell that to Hollywood where every Marvel movie keeps bringing record profits..
Oof.
The Sony of old is gone unfortunately. If your project isn't a 3rd person action/adventure game with mass appeal, it's unlikely they will greenlight it.The market is already over saturated with this shit. No, Venom is supposed to be a smaller standalone game. Technically, Spider-Man 2 won't have a DLC, like the 3 paid DLCs Spider-Man 1 got.that's the venom game
Didn't you know....the reason Sony doesn't reveal games anymore is because they don't want to show games with release dates years away that's why Wolverine was revealed in 2021Wtf. Why is Wolverine coming so late when it was revealed in like 2021/Early 2022? And an 8 year gap for next Ratchet? Sounds awful.
Spiderman 2 from Insomniac went pretty woke as well. There was a whole thread a few weeks back about how the game had to be approved by an outside firm for language and "proper" portrayal of certain characters.ah, right, I meant before they went heavy on the woke thing or whatever we call it now
In movies maybe but in gaming, HELL NO. When it comes to superhero games, they are extremely sparse. Sony and Marvel are obviously seeing a relatively untapped genre/market and that's why they are moving in. There's a huge demand for superhero games because there are so few of them out there in the AAA space. The market is already over saturated with this shit. Yet PS5's are flying off shelves doing record numbers and Xbox with their 1000 reveals can't get people outside of places like this to care to think of their console. The general public will forget you exist unless you make an effort to show them what is coming next. Sony's lack of showcase events has been extremely detrimental in this regard.
And what new IP did Sony create that ended up having a very successful original series? Personally I'm not a fan of TLoU original series but they found success in something that was created by their own studios. They should let their talent carve new paths, people are hungry for new and original worlds.Tell that to Hollywood where every Marvel movie keeps bringing record profits..
PC market is very different from the console (PS) market so not surprised to see relatively low numbers from PC releases.
Apart from GT7 which is a tentpole PlayStation IP, none of those other games are on the same funding level as Uncharted, TLoU, God of War, etc. I was talking about large AAA games.Sony does and continues to do plenty of non-3P A/A games.
- Dreams
- Gran Turismo 7
- Gran Turismo 7 PS VR 2
- Concord
- Firewall Ultra
- Horizon Call of the Mountain
- Sackboy
- Astrobot
- Astrobot's sequel
- Destruction All Stars
- Helldivers 2
- Fairgames
