Time for more of the game everyone likes hearing about that nobody (outside of a few thousand crazy people) wants to play.

WHO IS FIGHTING

Side A is The Imperium, the rebranded CFC (ClusterFuck Coalition). This consists of Goonswarm (i.e. associated with Something Awful) + associated allies and meatshields in the north-west of New Eden, centered around the region of Deklein.

Side B is the Moneybadgers Coalition or VOLTRON, consisting of numerous other alliances from both nullsec and lowsec space who have put aside their differences to fight the CFC.

WHY THEY'RE FIGHTING

CFC forces attempted to invade lowsec space to specifically target so-called "money moons", a large source of passive income for their owners. The dwellers of lowsec banded together and successfully defended against these attacks. Around the same time, a CFC member alliance (Space Monkey's Alliance, iirc) pissed off I Want ISK (IWI), an EVE casino/gambling website with extremely deep pockets. The operators of IWI went to several other entities, including Pandemic Horde (the new player friendly offshoot of the massive, nomadic Pandemic Legion), to conduct a campaign of cloaky camping and other harassment against SMA PvErs in their space.

These two groups banded together and we've seen the first fights break out in CFC space over the last week. Last night, CFC alliance Circle of Two (CO2) were invaded by the Moneybadgers in the Tribute region, with the badgers coming out on top. CO2 then announced they were resetting Goonswarm and other CFC alliances, effectively switching sides.

Easiest way to shoot people would be to join Pandemic Horde. They will take literally anyone, but will hand out advise, skillbooks and ships to new players.

I sunk so much time into this game, even did 3 ATs which ended up 3rd place. Fun times, but you can't spend 15-20 mins...usually its about 2-3hrs of time..

It's going to officially launch on Amazon within a week or two. The author was going to release it on Amazon last week but it got delayed because he needed to iron out some shipping problems.

Doctrines! Easier to know what ranges to engage at and how to tank incoming damage (puts less strain on your logi) if everyone is flying the same set of ships in a fleet.

Most corporations/alliances/coalitions use what is called ship doctrines. It's basically where the leadership decide on specific ships and ship equipment. So when we go to a fight like this one ( or any fight really ), there will pretty much always be a specific ship doctrine that the members are told to use.

For instance, I'm in the alliance Pandemic Horde. And we used our Scorpion ship doctrine for this fight. So the brunt of our fleet last night was people in the ship called Scorpion, with the ship loadout that is part of that Scorpion doctrine.

Yeah, they're now one of the older Alliances in the game.

A great deal of their rise to power had to do with their status as newbies and their ability to field lots and lots of people. I was in the Penny Arcade corp (Merch Industrial) back in the day.

Local in some systems jumped as high as 3600. Local does only count characters, not people, but that's still a lot of logged in accounts in the same space.

Edit: This is the current sovmap:

Most of the north/north-west is CFC aligned. The last Coalition map shows the rough CFC area, although it's a bit out of date with the loss of CO2.

This is the best part of EVE Online, hearing when this sort of thing happens. The last few major wars were fun to read about, I mean the game itself is ugh worthy to play but hearing about it, so freaking fun.

they've made strides to get newbies to become more accustomed to the nuances in the game. theres also corps dedicated to teaching people all the game mechanics using live demonstrations.

Yea, the issue with EVE is going alone and not knowing what the hell is going on. If you can jump in and instantly start in a corp who will give you a ship, helper guides and such, your experience is going to be far greater than just roaming around doing the 2 week trial mission stuff
