Youre right. His dad is co-founder of Quicken. So his fam has big money.


In 2021, he was also involved with 1047 Games, founded by his son Ian.


Today, the two startups Tom spends most of his time with are 1047 Games, a video game startup founded by his son, Ian (which Ian started—where else?—in his dorm room at Stanford), and his daughter, Audrey's, pop music career (audreyismusic.com).

First impression was that visually it's very clean and corporate looking, but then the audio is rebellious music, like mix between Brink (if anyone remembers that one) and Mirror's Edge.

Just purely in terms of game mechanics Empulse could be fun for sure, but I like it when a game has some character, some personality to it which I feel is lacking for me here
 
Gameplay mechanics look pretty smooth, but in every way this aesthetically looks like a downgrade from Titanfall 1-2.
 
You know what I'm gonna give this one a chance. If they can capture what made tf2 fun then this could be good even if it's not all that original

Reminded me of Brink too. The cover at least.

It's because it has an art style of faded colours and a concrete environment with a smidge of colour splash. Similar to MrRibEye said above... has a Mirror's Edge slant to it.

Nobody knows what all the other maps will be. Could be crazy colourful jungles or sci fi skies like Titanfall where maps could have bold blue and orange maps. But what they showed was an urban map with flat colours. By the looks of the interior and exterior of the mechs they look like crap too compared to TF.

Seems okay to me, albeit I'm a sucker for grappling hooks. Having physics on the wires to swing around obstacles or drop in on opponents is a good time for me, id actually be in favor of more Spider-Man type trickery and less parkour myself (wall-running does little for me at this point, whereas a Bionic Commando deathmatch has my number.) TF2 had its wire tricks, but this seems more grapply at heart.

The Titans though feel like an afterthought in this trailer, just big gun tanks which can easily be overcome by skilled players. Maybe a second trailer will show the Titans in a better light?

Don't hold the music against the game, that's likely just a track marketing picked out to sell it. Doubtful the game music will be so 1999...

They don't know why I liked titanfall, I guess. Put twice as much effort in making the mechanics look good, and half as much into wall running mid air battles. Set it somewhere other than shipping container city. Have the character seem like warfighter and not taggers. Grapple is good though.
 
The gameplay doesn't look bad.
But I just find the art direction and overall vibe with the music really off-putting. Splitgate 2 had the same issue with the pink purple "sports" vibe.

These guys proudly say they make games because they miss the good days of Halo and wanted there to be a Titanfall 3, then release shit that looks like this
