Digital Foundry: Avowed PS5/PS5 Pro - DF Review - Excellent Game, Decent Port, Light on Pro Upgrades

Looks like they didnt put much into it. I found this from Jan.

Microsoft confuses me so much. Like.......what's their ultimate goal at this point? Isn't there rumors that Obsidian is working on an Avowed 2? If so, why not push this harder on Playstation?

Oh, we know.

I'd pay full price for the game if there was a physical copy, but since there isn't I'll just get it on a deep sale on either system. Played a bit of it on Game Pass a year or so ago and it's not a bad game.

Yep. Mostly when I want to fast travel.

More annoying is the Soundbug when steps are missing any low pitched Audio Sounds. Only restarting the Game helps.
The last crash happened to me when I used fast travel too. It isn't every time, but I've had around 4 crashes in 8 hours of play.

Marketing costs money and their estimations for sales isn't pretty for it to be worth it. 19k peak on steam at launch wasn't exactly great and it will be even worse a year on, late to another platform. Trying to sell to multiplatform owners or those that don't really buy into xbox marketing hype anyway.

I loaded this up (well the 2.0 patch version) over the weekend and I had a great time with it. So much so that I am looking forward to playing again tonight. The exploration is fun, the combat options are varied, and I personally really enjoy the sense of discovery as I move through the areas. I am hoping this continues after I get past the first set of intro quests; I got side tracked immediately after landing on the dock and was told to find some guy missing in the woods.

I started swimming around the initial area, kept swimming, found some sunken treasure and then a path way up the side of a cliff, and now I am raiding some campsite overrun with bandits and lizard people....good shit.

I have this on SX and there's a noticeable difference in graohics between Performance> Balanced> and Quality. Quality mode is actually quite stunning. This is an absolute joke of a "Pro Enhanced" version.

They should've aimed for Quality mode using PSSR at 60 fps (or unlocked if they couldn't get a stable 60). Even though PSSR sucks with Lumen and artifacting they could've at least included it as an option to justify calling this "enhanced".

Instead according to DF:
-no pssr option
-identical resolution and framerate targets to SX version
-WORSE shadow quality, even on Pro
-no other enhancements to graphical settings?!

What about this is "enhanced" in ANY way??

This belongs with some of the worst Pro updates.
