*start thinking about this week's CBD thread Sunday night, look up this week's big releases*
*Diamond's website behaving erratically, taking too long to load*
*decide sleep is more important, will work on thread tomorrow*
*sit down early Monday afternoon to work on thread*
*Diamond's website won't load*
*decide to work on thread later, find something else to do*
*check Diamond's website later, site loads incomplete and there's no new releases list*
*oh crap, that's not good; will check back later*
*check back Monday night, same thing, keep checking back infrequently through the night*
*go to bed*
*wake up Tuesday morning, check Diamond's website and see this*
Due to hardware issues, many Diamond's websites were affected on 12/6, resulting in a loss of art and text. These issues are being resolved.
*debate pulling list together from each individual publisher and completing thread as usual*
*would take hours to complete thread at this point*
*last two days of vacation left*

????????? FABLES #100 $9.99 (for 100 pages! -Spike)

6kxhC.jpg

In this fantastic 100-page issue, it's time to put an end to Mister Dark once and for all, and time for the Fables to return home to Fabletown. For that to happen, one of the Fables agrees to take on the Dark Man in single combat! It's big, it's epic, and if you live in New York City, you may want to take a quick vacation when this issue comes out, because things are going to get wrecked!

In addition to the larger-than-life main story, we have a FABLES prose story written by Mark Buckingham and illustrated by Bill Willingham! We have an All-Star Burning Questions section that will knock your socks off (seriously, innocent people are going to lose some socks here). We have a puppet theatre created by the unstoppably creative Mark Buckingham, a FABLES board game, sequential stories painted by Chrissie Zullo and Joao Ruas, and even more surprises in this square-bound behemoth celebrating this award-winning Vertigo series!

Spike you could punch a smile child in the face and I still wouldn't quit you.

after a week so light that i didn't even bother going into the comic shop, it's a HUGE week:

Batgirl
Fables
Red Robin
Superboy
New Avengers
Echo
DC holiday special

:lol, there're a couple of pages from Generation Lost #15 making the rounds this morning and
Max is flabbergasted that no one knows who Wonder Woman is anymore. No superhero by that name, no records of her either, and he can't find her with his metahuman tracking computer. On the one hand, I'm a little disappointed as I thought this series might actually ignore the crap happening in JMS's story and use the real Wonder Woman, but on the other you've gotta admit that's pretty funny -- the guy who made the world forget he exists can't get the world to believe the person he's looking for exists either.

Fables was great.

I like mostly where the story is going.
Mr. Dark sticking around is cool. Nurse Pratt needs to go away. and more Frogcatcher is a good thing.

Three Blind Mice mini stories were fun.

Celeb questions were great... plus Tag and Robin. :D

Pinnochio's story was okay.

Puppet's could be cool for a kid but you'd have to photocopy them anyway as they're back to back.

Comics need to be more like this.

Dan

No longer boycotting the Wolfenstein franchise
Sweet Tooth: Vol. 2: In Captivity is out this week. That's my last trade for the year.

Fables #100 was pretty satisfying. It was probably the most satisfying "issue" of Fables that I've read in the last half year or more. I can't stand to wait for the TPBs but the story flows so much better when its not confined to 32 pages or less each issue.

Saw this making the rounds on Twitter. Hell of a story. Depressing. Inspiring. Ugh.

How 2000AD artist and MS sufferer John Hicklenton chose to end his life

Just an hour before, they ate a cheeseburger and drank a coke.

Fingers all greasy, the three of them – the cartoonist, his partner and his best mate – sat in the Swiss sunshine sharing a joke or two. And then, at 11am on a Friday morning, the cartoonist swallowed a drink, sat down on the sofa, held the hands of his partner and his friend and prepared to die.

The story of John Hicklenton – 2000AD cartoonist and Judge Dredd artist, friend, lover, son, multiple sclerosis sufferer – could begin any number of ways. But there’s no doubt where it ends. On that sofa, in the Swiss countryside, 30 minutes from Zurich. That was the way it had been planned. A few days earlier he, his partner Claire and his best friend Adam had boarded a plane knowing that only two of them would return. Some months earlier Hicklenton had contacted the controversial Swiss assisted dying group Dignitas – which has helped more than 1000 people to die – to lay the groundwork for this final day. For 10 years he had been suffering from the worst form of MS. For 10 years he had been fighting the disease which had robbed him of the use of his legs and might eventually rob him of his life. He wasn’t going to give it the chance.

“Then it got to the point where it’s, ‘I’m not going to get to a point where I can’t move in a bed.’ That was too much for him. I think once he got into the wheelchair and still it was getting worse and worse and worse and he was still having spasms and he had really bad mobility problems – even getting in and out of the wheelchair was becoming a hassle – that’s when it really started to hit home and about a year and a half before we went, they approached Dignitas just to have that as a safety net.”

By this time the film was long finished. Hicklenton had moved into the same block of flats as Lavis and they saw each other every day. Lavis began to work with him on what would become his last book, 100 Months, a violent, strange fable about environmentalism and mankind’s propensity for destruction. “I think in the last year particularly, 100 Months was a lifeline for him. I joke that he did more work during the day than most people. He got up in the morning, he’d play his Xbox fighting game. We made a character that was a version of him and we got it almost looking like him. So he had this little three-dimensional waking character who he could beat people up with for a couple of hours, get himself feeling pumped and then he’d draw for 10 hours and paint and he did that right up until we went.

“I don’t know how he did it. He could hardly write but he could paint. He’d have spasms, his legs were really bad and his fingers were numb, he used to say, ‘I don’t know how I can still draw.’ Yet the drawings he did four days before he went [to Switzerland] are some of the most amazing in the book. By the end the final signature he did for me looks like it was written by an old man, he could hardly hold the pen. And yet he would put that down and do a drawing and have the control. I think he would have been a very different person if he’d lost the ability to draw. He would have ended his own life. He just wouldn’t have carried on.”

Instead, he decided to finish the battle on his own terms. Even when we went to Dignitas,” Lavis recalls, “it was, ‘I’m pulling the pin on the hand grenade. I’m murdering MS. It’s not murdering me.’”

Just read the whole damned article.

New Avengers #7 was improbably the best comic of the week. God it was so great.

Pretty funny stuff, glad I stuck with the series this long. The first 6 issues were kinda blah.

Anyone have impressions on the new Stan Lee stuff ?

Does anyone know what this is from? Based on the Punisher and Ghost Rider, I would have guess Leinil Yu's run on Ulitmate Comics: Avengers, but that book didn't feature Daredevil.

Does anyone know?

Wonder if the new Venom is Flash Thompson.

They should go with the "Punisher" concepts. Looks pretty nice IMO.

Interesting. Do you think the new venom lets him walk only when he's in the suit?

Wouldn't surprise me. Could explain why his upper torso is so large compared to his lower half.

Just read the whole damned article.

Wow instantly made me think of Terry Pratchett's writing on the same subject (assisted suicide or whatever you'd like to call it).

Also Spike, I know I don't comment much in these thread, but even though I don't really buy comics right now I do appreciate the work you do on these. They keep me informed.

Thanks, will keep an eye out.

Pick of the week was Thunder Agents #2. I couldn't believe that it wasn't Thor:TMA but for me a large part of the appeal of the book was done in ones and this departed from the formula.
I think maybe it's because it ends in the next issue is the last and Langridge has had to scramble. :/

Wow went to the comic shop and there were Christmas Carolers in there singing. :O

Picked up First Wave #5 :3

Did not know Jason Pearson will be on Astonishing X-Men. YAY! More Jason Pearson is a good thing.
