First reply. Once I started watching the video, I just knew somebody here had already posted a comment about Pachter. (I had the same thought. Pachter seems to be always there.)

I agree with Pachter about the price thing. Obviously I'd like XBL to be 100% free, but PSN and Wii Connect really need to catch up. PSN is trying to catch up, but their still missing basic things like voice messages.

Good episode though

Pachter is the only guy who knows what he's talking about. Last Bonus Round the others predicted that Fable II and Fallout 3 would bomb. They were wrong, Pachter predicted that Mirror's Edge will do surprisingly well and if the reactions of people who played the demo are anything to by he's right. So they just might as well call this: "Pachter's Round".

Satterfield in particular is out of his damn mind for predicting that Fable II will bomb.

I wished they address the fact that Netflix is a U.S. only feature. It's a significant feature that the rest of the world can't enjoy.

Who am I kidding? It's all about America.

Wait... did Netlfix start offering their service outside of America? If not, then you need to complain to Netlfix, not MS.

MS doesn't have a replacement for Netflix so do blame them

Do people pay $50 because it's worth more or do they think it has value because it cost $50?

I'd sure love free XBL, I don't use most of the features, I just want to co-op online. I don't want to get into chat groups, etc.

I'm the same way, I just want to game online. I couldn't care less about the extra fluff.

The system wide 8 person party/chat I really think could be the biggest deal for me and people who have a few friends that play on live.

As for the price of Live, i used to say it should be free (especially with Steam beating it with communities & the cloud stuff) but then I got my PS3 and played on PSN and its horrendous is so many ways in comparison to Live not just the lack of people with voice.

No one's complaining to NetFlix or MS. I'm just saying that they should have noted that it's not a universally available feature. Like the Marketplace and PlayStation Network movie stores.

Somebody hasn't played LittleBigPlanet, Resistance 2, or MotorStorm 2...

There's nothing horrendous about that online experience.

I see nothing wrong with PSN. Sony even provides dedicated servers for some of their games(for free), does Microsoft?

It's simple really.

Live for Windows is free now... why? Because the market wasn't there to accept paying for it. Live gold shouldn't be free, but as long as Microsoft makes profit from it from people who subscribe, it's better for them to keep it a premium service.

All I care about is playing online multiplayer for free. I own an X360, but I don't go online with it. That's what my PS3 is for.

If you're smart you are not paying anywhere close to that $50. $28 ftw, throw in a free month card on top of it here and there and I'm looking at 15 months for $28. Pennies out the pocket if you're smart about it.

It's up to the developers to choose. Most go with matchmaking instead of lobby systems (MS published games especially). Left 4 Dead has dedicated servers but not many other games.

This comment shows that you did not buy LittleBigPlanet the day it launched. I did and outside of the servers going up and down constantly, I still have yet to complete a full level with three of my real life friends without horrid lag or getting kicked out of games.

How come you didn't mention Socom in your list?

i've had very few games of LBP that didn't have lag. many were some of the worst cases of lag i've ever experienced and it's not my connection or setup.

dunno if it was fixed, but the voice chat was horribly spotty in the beta for some reason. i just stopped trying to use it, because it'd usually end up in a crash. didn't ever have this in the XMB or anything.

I did buy it at launch. The launch server issues sucked, but it was only for a week or so. They've been ironed out and now they work flawlessly. I can play 4 people in co-op no problem.

It's not like 360 is immune from this; there were outages last year, Gears 2 has matchmaking problems, etc.

If he's calling PSN "horrendous in so many ways", I'd like to hear why because, again, outside of the initial server ramp up, I don't have any issues getting into the big PS3 games this holiday season.

The main problem I've run into is that the online games for PS3 are sparatic at best. Resistence 2 works but Socom is garbage... Motrostorm 2 works but LBP is garbage. It's not consistent at all. You roll the dice whenever you buy a new online game if it's going to work or not. If the entire PSN was down, I would understand that but this one game works and another one doesn't is bullshit.

LBP is the one game that I was going to give the PS3 a real shot at to see how the online worked and if I would get more games for it but after disconnect after disconnect then laggy game after another, my friends just gave up and went to play by ourselves. It was a horrible experience to say the least.

One thing that LBP taught me (and reading about Socom) is to never, ever buy a PS3 online game the day it launches. Always wait at least two weeks for them to work out the kinks which is inexcusable considering they even had a beta before hand.

Not sure what you are talking about with Gears 2, I've was playing at midnight the day it launched with no server problems at all. No week to work it out "issues". But while I was upset at first that I couldn't play with my friends in LBP, it was a lesson learned. You get what you pay for so I really can't complain.

I dunno, I'm not having the lag issues you are with LBP anymore.

I'm able to play just fine with my friends. Like I said, the first week was awful, but now the online experience is just fine.

As for Gears 2, when matchmaking works, it works, but so far around half the time I can't find a game and I'm just stuck in the lobby. My only point in bringing it up is that both services can have their issues.

There are lots of online games for the ps3 and just because 2 have problems (and one of them for only a week) the whole service is garbage?

I'm just a bit curious (I don't have a PS3/LBP yet) but when you say that it's laggy, do you mean in the online multiplayer mode, or when you play through other people's levels?
...or both? :(

As horrendous as the super lagtastic Team Fortress 2 when it launched or the host advantege "Cannot connect to Host" garbage that was Gears of War when it came out? I never belived in paying to play games online, but decided to give Live a chance by subscribing from Nov 06 to Nov 07 (which is when I cancelled). It was a rubbish experince through and through for the games that I played on it.

so there are only 4 PS3 games in the world, and 2 of them had only problems at launch? man it is horrendous i guess..

how does patcher keep getting invited to these things ..he openly admits to not even having turned a console on for god knows how long.

He wears a suit, brings a touch of the class to the whole thing.

Psn is soulless for me, its hard to find anyone who talks and the setup in some games a nightmare to setup to invite friends etc. Its the thing ms has where theres a standard for everything unlike the open platform sony offer. I love live i dont mind the charge at all for the level of service i know ill get with any game i pu tin the tray. If you dont like to talk and dont play much with friends psn is perfect for you and it being free is a bonus. So for me psn has its downside but others who dont care about friends etc osn is free and works.

Please, tell us more.

Its the overall built in experience that I appericate with Xbox Live that PSN does not offer.
Being able to invite any friend into a game I know that they can get it and have a consistent good online experience as close as possible to to local multiplayer as you can get.

Voice chat is clear and standard, everyone can easily join games from wherever and private chat sessions can be used at any time.

I mean with Wipeout you can't even send invites and have to search through server lists which is a complete joke for any modern game now.

If I could pay and PSN was like Live I would!

Live will never be free. MS makes far too much money from it, and outside of the hardcore neckbeard gaming community, who complains?

You're telling us why Live is better, not why PSN is "horrendous".

And what's wrong with server lists? It's how online game has been done for years and there's no reason to change that. I actually prefer it (as long as they have a ping/latency field) to a "Quick play" option that'll just drop me off on some random laggy game.

Matchmaking/Party systems are really one of the best inovations in online gaming for a long time thats why most new games are now using these.

I think Sever lists are really dated now personally but I could not get over the fact I couldn't invite in Wipeout.

Everything is just so much more extra effort on PSN thats why I tend to dislike it but mainly because I like to chat with buds when I play online, its very social for me and PSN has never replicated that for me.

I'm another guy who prefers server lists and usually bemoan the lack of them. Give me Resistance and even MGO which offers both options. But if given the choice I'll take a server list I can sort by ping any day of the week.

Personally I think you're exaggerating your Wipeout woes too. The process is hardly cumbersome or difficult. To join a friends game you simply set the opponents filter to friends and bob's your uncle. It's not difficult and all you have to do is navigate a couple of quick menus.
