I was asked last night why didn't I drink beer; I replied with a they taste horrible. I am usually a drinks guy; whiskey, vodka, etc. They are stronger than those cheap beers and obviously have more style. The only beer that I can manage to drink is Smirnoff... and its Green Apple. Bud? Eww. Coors? Eww. Heineken? Eww. I just don't like beers. I prefer drinks, they give me a more sophisticated (=P) and higher class look... and they cost more so it gives the perception you have money to spare.

So, what do you prefer? Beers or Drinks?

PD: Some lame ass will pop up with Coke or Water, no... we are only dealing with ALCOHOLIC beverages here, thank you!

Stop calling American Lagers Beer.

Oh shit :lol . Well..... all beers taste like shit, and I've tasted a fair share... I think I went to this Beer Fair once (don't ask) and tasted some from Europe. Just more malt and "flavor", still tasted like hell.

yeah, I don't like beer at all either. I usually have wine, sake, or a sour.

sometimes I'll have a kaluha/bailey's based drink.

Wow you're one of those douches that don't drink beer because it's too "vulgar"??? :lol :lol :lol

:lol

Yep I am. Beers are vulgar and low. I said it! :D

OP seems to have confused the words "drinks" with "liquor"

Well there are a bunch other things that fall into "drinks", but yeah... HARD LIQUOR!! DRUNK FTW!

I also don't get beer. I'd really like to get it because it's so fucking cheap, but I'm guess I'm just not the beer-type

Nothing says sophistication and pretension like a tasty micro-brew. And unless you're drinking that whisky or vodka on the rocks you look effeminate, not high class.

If the only beer you like is some candy apple malt beverage, something tells me you're probably ordering girl drinks that don't make you look all that sophisticated anyway.

OP: I bet you drink very sophisticated drinks too. Jack & Coke, Vodka & Cranberry. I understand Budweiser (american) and Coors are bad examples of beer but when you refre to Smirnoff Ice as beer it is evident that you really have no idea. Smirnoff Ice is defintely a "drink" that's why it is mostly sold to women.

There's so much classyness in beer I cannot even bgein to describe. You need to go do some research and find out what good beer is. There's plenty of good american beer, hell the best stouts come from there but the popular 10 24-packs at the beer store won't be it. Sip on a tripel or quadrupel after dinner one day and then redefine what "beer" means. I doubt you'll do it though since you are just looking for a way to get wasted while looking like the shit.

I usually always go for a beer (Stella Artois FTW) but if I get a drink it will be a Soli + Tonic. ( or any Vodka tonic, preferrably Belvedere + Tonic, or Chopin + Tonic)

Any "drink" that isn't just straight liquor is a complete waste of money at a bar. Also, saying things like "Stop calling American Lagers Beer" is really lame.

I can drink both, but i like my tipple depending on the situation, if its just going out with a few mates to a pub or something, then a few beers will get me happy. Faves are Fosters and Stella Artois but can drink others as well, i try to avoid Carlsberg, Carling and Budweiser if possible.

However, if we ar egoing to a club or something, i go for the spirits or mixers, JD + Coke will get me started for the night and from then on, its a big mix of anything and everything i can get my hands on. Redbull + Vodka will keep me up if im feeling down, but i do drink a bit of randomness during these nights.. and thinking about it, i havent done one of these for ages.

High class indeed...

First off, your first liquor listed was not gin, and then you made the mistake again of not actually mentioning gin at all. Are you the type of guy who orders a martini with vodka?

Secondly, beer is an acquired taste, and it is such a glorious acquisition...
Oh, and find your local beer that makes everybody proud. Ever area has one. In Austin, you drink Shiner. Thats not a suggestion either.

Third, just depends on how I am feeling that night. If I am planning on going slow that night, beer it is. If I am planning a drunk night or want something a bit more refreshing, liquor it is.

Beer is an acquired taste. In my experience, almost everyone hated beer when they first tried it. So you aren't unique or anything in crying out against beer.

I used to hate beer as well, but now I love it. A good beer is pretty damn amazing. Try something like Honey Brown the next time you have a beer, it barely even has the traditional beer taste you probably hate. Also try something like Blue Moon I guess.

The thing I really don't like is straight liquor. Taking shots is usually a pretty nasty experience. Taking down some shitty tequila will always be worse than any kind of beer, even for the unexperienced. Drinking something like a Coors Light becomes so automatic once you've had enough beer, it goes down almost like water.

Disagree, maybe my liquor tolerance is too high, but I'd rather pound down shot after shot. It's easy to cut off your nasal passage in your throat so you don't taste them.

what does nose have to do with taste?

Ok, reading back I may have been a bit over the top. I really meant that lager is just a type of beer, and other types are very different both in taste & drinkability.

Its like saying you don't like wine, cheese, coffee etc. just because you have only had bad, cheap or low quality examples.

Two of my recent favorites.

And if you really have to go for a cheap beer, go with PBR.

Yea if you take the shot down fast enough, you pretty much don't taste it. People who need salt and a lime to take down tequila aren't doing it right.

Still I don't really like shots. BEER BEER BEER.

After work on a patio = beer
Nice dinner or reading a book in the evening = liquor
Party situation = both

me = thirsty now

As a lover of beer, it is offensive to me that you consider Smirnoff a beer. It is NOT a beer. And if all you've tried is shitty macrobrews, you haven't tried a good beer, anyway. Bud and Coors *are* terrible. Heineken is alright I guess, but still nowhere near the top. You want a good easy to drink beer? Try something like a New Glarus Spotted Cow. Try some Irish beers. But for pete's sake, don't go around calling Smirnoff beer, you're going to get yourself punched.

Drinking because of the image the drink gives you is pure fail. Drink for the taste.

I pretty much agree with the OP word for word.

It's all about the Liquor. In particular, Scotch, Whiskey, Cognac. I can also appreciate Tequila, and Vodka if I feel like I'm trying to hide something.

Smirnoff green apple is not beer.

If you don't like beer, it's because the only ones you've mentioned in your OP are "bud" and "coors".

well drinks don't give you a more "sophisticated" look (well, anything will look more sophisticated than you ordering a bud light at a nice place) by the way. Since the "good beer revolution" has come, people realize the subtleties behind the beer are complex and delicious, much like a good wine. It may take some "sophistication" for you to understand more about beer, but it will only come if you stop ordering cheap beers... i mean seriously, if you're posting about how much beer sucks and "smirnoff green apple" "coors" and "bud" are your main points, you obviously have no idea what you're talking about.

EDIT:

Your use of "perception" implies you really don't have money to spare. Don't go broke over image. :P
