For me it's simple - I only play live service/MMO that I can first try or the barrier of entry is relatively low so that I could figure out if it's something that I'd be into with minimum risk of loss of money.
I also avoid Early Access games. If it's Early Access, then into my wish lit it goes and that's where it will remain until full version comes out and I can see if they actually bothered to finish it or just slapped a 1.0 version on it and abandoned the game in an unfinished state.
Overall there's so much stuff to chose from these days that I really see no point in wasting energy on unfinished games.
